Two weeks after being acquitted of criminal mischief charges, the anti-Iraq war group calling itself the Seriously P.O.'d Grannies returned Friday to the same sidewalk outside a Northeast Portland U.S. military recruiting center where they were arrested in April.

On Good Friday, a half a dozen members of the group were busted after using washable red finger paint to leave handprints on a front window. But a Multnomah County jury found no problem with the protest, even though a judge cited them for leaving graffiti.

Joseph Rose of The Oregonian was outside the recruiting station as the grannies -- and a few grandpas -- made their return. Marine and Army recruiters inside the office declined to be interviewed. Portland police were called, but decided not to arrest the grannies this time. Follow this link to read The Oregonian's coverage of the grannies' recent trial.

I guess they have nothing better to do than to waste their time protesting something that is not going to change.

"I guess they have nothing better to do than to waste their time protesting something that is not going to change."

It's no waste of time to protest illegal and immoral wars started by war criminals like Bush and Cheney. I've been at protests with these ladies and I consider a couple of them personal friends.

They are smart, and they really care. We all need to be doing exactly what they are doing. And this war not ony needs ending, but investigations and trials need to take place, and the Hague is where Bush, Cheney, Rumbo and others need to be for war crime trials.

In this day and age protests don't accomplish anything.

There have been protests all over the world since before the Iraq war began and nothing has changed as a result.

This ain't the 60's.

What have 5 years of Iraq war protesting accomplished?

"What have 5 years of Iraq war protesting accomplished?"

What has five years of war accomplished? It has ruined our reputastion in the world, killed and maimed incredible numbers of people destroying their lifes and the fabric of their countries and culture, it has strained our finances and made the world far less safe.

Dumb question for you to ask.

Dumb question for you to ask.

Obviously it's a difficult question for you to ponder.

Oh, and don't make the mistake of equating my statements about the futility of protesting with support for the war.

Not at all dear boy. It is elegantly easy to answer. As far as your support of the war, I consider you a hawk and a war enabler. And an apologist for war criminals.

Well, considering that there is not a single post of mine supporting the war or the Bush administration, you're even dumber than you appear.

But none of that changes the fact that 5 years of Iraq war protests have not done a damn thing.

Protests raise the level of awareness among the sheeple. Some even gain enough knowledge and power to leave the herd.

Protests didn't turn people against the Iraq war, the daily violence over there did.

But the daily violence is not reported much, and when it is, it is done with some sort of propaganda.

The protests bring the evils of the war into focus, makes the sheeple stop and think for a second. It even encourages some of them to get involved also.
