It shows an Iraqi with raindeer antlers, naked, being pulled around on a leash by Dick Cheney, dressed as Santa, while lil Georgie sticks a candy cane in another handcuffed Iraqi's orfice. Very Christmissy, donch'a think?
Every Christmas we give our managers off generous vacations, and I think generous bonus and Sue and I work long hours at a very busy and physically demanding time of the year. And we give them, by their own admission, a lot of money for the season.
Two thousand dollars in banded twenty's (green cash, half an inch thick) for our lead manager, one thousand for the second man. No checks - bearer bonds. Real Cash.
Then we give them, as I said a bunch of time off with pay.
The interesting thing is is that one of our employees came in on Christmas Eve to get a bottle of wine (at wholesale cost) saw that I was overwheleamed, and stocked to coolers, ran the registers, while I stocked the coolers and otherwise kept the place from becoming a wreck that didn't serve the customers.
On his own accord.
We have always treated our employees more than decently. As family really, after a while.
If one of them asks for five hundred dollars advance, I am counting out the money before they finish the sentence.
Usually, not always it has been a good approach. Not always.
I am beat up from doing the work of three folks and so is my wife. We take our vacations after the holidays, and thats fine with me.
Tomorrow we have New Years, and one of our guys is going to come in to help tho we told him he had the day off.
It can be a fun job really, as we know most of the customers, and on the hollidays most are in a good mood and so are we as it is exciting in a way.
My employees will do some really funny things to some of our customers, like trick them for a few seconds.....for the ones that have a good sense of humor, it can be a fun place to work at times.
No. My father was a WW2 Marine in the South Pacific. Smoked cigarettes for 55 years. Now in the process of dying of emphysema. But I'll ask him about the cigarette lighter.
