This is a bit of a read, but oh so very, very good....I have put some paragraphs in just to break it up for ease of reading.

Besides 4um, I participate on some horse & horse racing forums. Imagine my surprise on a visit last night to the racing forum to find an “Off Topic” thread regarding Dr. Ron Paul. Naturally, I had to read that one!

There were comments on this thread about Ron Paul, 'radical ideas' and suggestions that he was thin on details etc....nothing horrid, but much ill-informed or deliberate misstating of facts. There was even a comment that he was ill-prepared for Meet the (de)Pressed.

When it got down to the 'idjuts can't do anything on their own', well...y'all know me--couldn't let that one fly by. Presidents certainly have more to do than just 'veto' legislative efforts. However, before I saw this, the thread's initiator had come back and was rebutting much of the written 'junk' stuff. This was his first salvo:

*****
//He also had no idea how many troops would be brought home if we closed all of our overseas bases and how much money that would save us... Details ... simple details. I was giving him some consideration until I saw that he had no idea what the numbers were behind some of his ideas....//

he's given the details in numerous instances.  downsizing government and bringing home the troops would save about a trillion dollars....very close to the amount of money by abolishing the irs.  i'm not even american and i know this.

i think the problem is most people buy the crap that is spoon fed to them by big media in the u.s. vs. do your own homework and think for yourselves.  the details from the other candidates are rather saddening.  more war, further erosion of the standard of living in the u.s., more geopolitical turmoil, etc.  but all this crap sells well on cnn, fox, etc.  enjoy!

i'm rather flakey.  i'd rather listen to the message of peace, prosperity and freedom delivered by ron paul.  there is no doubt in my mind he's a brilliant man.  i've done enough homework to know that!

*****

Wow! Oh, geeze.......that caught my eye......even a non-american knows more because he listens, reads, and checks things out before engaging mouth gears......

A few posts later is when I entered the picture...you can get a flavor of what was being said.

*******

###Let's all face the absolute truth - none of these idiots can do things on their own.  Does anyone really think that a Congress Or Senate controlled by the two major aprties are really going to say to their campaign donors that they will shut down the IRS?  People who vote for Paul on the basis of that proposal are dumber than dumb.  It would NEVER happen.  Even if one body got the Bill through I would see a fight that ended up in the Supreme Court in 3 or 4 years.###

ME: I totally DISAGREE with you,____......these "idjuts' running for the presidency have much control of various agencies/branches of fedguv.....those bureaus/agencies/branches that write rules and regulations ALL THE TIME, as witnessed in the Federal Register or by the voluminous paper products put out by fedguv.

The president is also in total control of appointments to a good many positions in fedguv.  He can't be forced to fill positions, just as the senators can't be forced to endorse whoever he/she/it nominates.

The power of the VETO has never been fully realized because most people who run for the position don't have a hair on their arse, so to speak.  Ron Paul does not vote for bills going beyond constitutional authority, so why would he sign onto a bill that does it?

In actuality, I believe you would see either 1) the legislative branches settling down and getting serious about curtailing spending and taxation OR 2) you'd see the two-headed monster (a "D" head and a 'R' head) forced to expose their 'bed' proclivities by climbing in them publicly together in order to try to override every veto that came down the pike.

I would love to see the latter because it would expose political hacks for what they are:  split tongue/two-faced liars and/or deceivers....right out in the open where even the most naive of citizens could see them in action.

Ron Paul may not win, but I guarantee the country won't when you consider all the other candidates positions.  Change?  Not hardly.  Oh there might be a 'fluffing' of the pillows on the sofa, but there would be no meaningful change.  Couldn't happen--they'd lose their power base if they couldn't promise you the moon, me the stars, and someone else planet earth.

OTOH, Ron Paul wouldn't even let his kids apply for student grants or loans because they aren't constitutional.  He returns a good portion of what is allotted his House accounts to the treasury (at least l representative is living proof Congress spends way too much on office expenses for themselves).  He doesn't participate in the pension package.

I've read elsewhere people complain that he submits pork projects, to which I say, NBD.  His constituents ask him to in order to get some of the tax monies back.  He doesn't vote them.  He isn't giving up his principles to be accomodating--after all, they are his constituents and they know his principles.  He keeps getting re-elected, so I dare say the district knows where he stands on issues.

*****
After this I received a private mail from our non-american friend. I asked and received permission to post his correspondence here because there are so many Ron Paul supporters here.

This is private mail #1:

i'm canadian and just by chance i came across mention of him on the web.  i wish i had jotted down the day i began my examination of the man, his accomplishments, and his views.

to me it's been like a breathe of fresh air.  my heart is with the man and the journey he has embarked on to bring america full circle but following an examination of the outcome of last night's results and further decay in the economic metrics of the u.s. economy this morning, i had to use my head to over ride my heart and scaled back my u.s. equities, apple remains.

the most compelling of youtube videos is the house of cards.  as ron paul has mentioned on numerous occasions, the finances of the u.s. empire are imploding.  i started 2007 questioning the rationale of the gold bugs and by year's end beginning an examination of moving more of my investments into hard assets.  the implosion has begun to even hit some of my canadian equities quite hard.

when i examine the other candidates i see: more war, bigger government, a federal reserve that will continue to throw gasoline on an out of control fire, erosion of freedom and liberty, an expanding welfare state, a foreign policy that creates more enemies than friends (actually with each passing day i'm detesting the u.s. as a nation more and more), free trade agreements that are anything but free (the softwood battle between canada and u.s. has been going on forever),  etc.  the trend is not favourable.

i am not a deeply religious man but strive to see, believe and make what is good in life.  when i close my eyes and focus on ron paul's message i feel so connected to his message.  a message of peace, freedom, hope and prosperity.  a message many americans would embrace in the after life but reluctant to embrace in this lifetime?  i didn't realize until last night the odds and forces that oppose him.  if only more people would dare to dream what could be!

*****

I wrote a rather enthusiastic letter back to him and this is the letter I received in return responding to my letter:

Letter #2:

//Ron is a man who talks the talk and walks the walk.  He is true to his principles.  Consistent to the nth degree.//

imo no doubt about it.

//he understands the monetary aspect so much better than I do.//

not too many elected officials that do.

//In fact, they've taken  a collection to buy some ad space in the big New Hampshire newspaper this coming Sunday.//

being canadian there is little i can do to support his campaign.  not even buy a tshirt from his online store.

//I would love to be able to post what I wrote to that forum, and then this letter from you---of course, with your permission.  I'd make sure to not even give your screen name so as to maintain any privacy you desire.//

i post as BrentFromCanada at dailypaul.  please use that name if you find anything of interest.

//Your words would be encouraging, though scary, to most.  This board has a group that also follows the various markets, including gold, etc.  Many are very up on the Fed.  All are believers in individual freedom, and all are concerned (except for l or 2 intellectually challenged jerks who are naysayers just to be naysayers) with how much further our nation can decline.//

not long ago in the national post they had an obituary from one of the men who played a chief in dances with wolves.  i wish i had jotted down something he had said in there.  it was essentially that the u.s. was going to hell and he could care less.

it appears that in politics they'd rather select a white man who portrays his religion in a style of fire and brimstone but as a friend of my grandfather commented....would be the first person to steal from your kitchen cupboard.

//I think a lot of us are about to the point of just 'bring it on'--whatever ill befalls us is deserved because we, as a nation, have not been vigilant as the Founding Fathers admonished us to be.//

believe me it has started.  as ron paul has mentioned, main street knows about it, michigan knows about it but wall street and washington d.c. doesn't know about it.

//The MIC and financial centers obviously wouldn't want Ron as Prez.//

not sure what MIC is.  i'm somewhat out of place in today's society.  i prefer things of lasting value and dislike the consumerism.  imo those that create value not out of thin air would have tremendous respect for men like ron paul.

//I'm not a religious 'freak' but I believe in and faith God and study scriptures daily.//

i was raised a catholic and respect everyone's freedom to worship where it doesn't cause harm to others.  however, when i was in my late 20's and early 30's i read a book written by a rabbi (rabbi kushner?).  in that book, it had stated something to the effect that one's belief in god is most likely more important that whether there is in fact a God.  imo it's too bad that all the great spirit's children didn't worship good vs. God.  the hate that has been done from "faith" astounds me.

//All of the candidates, Dems or Repubs have taken oaths of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America 'so help them God'........Ron is the only one who measures up to taking that oath seriously and doing it.//

the u.s. is on a troubled trajectory.  imo it is time for it as we know it to crumble just as the former soviet union has.  the love of money is the root of all evil and it is those strings that are playing the u.s. puppet vs. the ballots of the people.

i know little of obama.  the remainder of the candidates look scary to me.  he's probably for more war and government as well.

a few years back when canada was on the ropes we had a finance minister paul martin (who briefly was prime minister and imo not long enough) grabbed the bull by the horns and made some tough decisions.  they call ron dr. no but as he has mentioned when you say no to something that means you can say yes to many things as well.  i employ a similar mindset.

best wishes and feel free to contact me any time.

*****

And then finally back out to the forum thread, our Canadian friend responded to a number of comments that had been directed towards me. This is his response:

*****

this back and forth would be so much easier if we were carrying on a personal dialogue vs. this back and forth in a forum environment.

//Not allowing your kids federal funding for their education because you don't think it's Constituional does not indicate a bright person to me.//

there are many different ways to interpret this.  not being constitutional was one aspect of this.  i think he wanted his children to complete their education not being burdened by debt.  if i'm not mistaken a number of his children are also doctors.  is it 4 of 6?  i think the good doctor or his family are far from stupid.  actually i think dr. paul is brilliant.  imo dr. paul is a breath of fresh air.  if it were possible to sit down all the candidates and carry on an interview as that done between dr. paul and bill moyers yesterday it would become highly apparent that dr. paul is very smart.  imo he's light years ahead of his republican competitors.

//I'm also curious as to how all of these returned troops are going to make a living.//

the overhead costs spent abroad would be spent in america.  i doubt this would be harmful to the american economy.  this would invigorate its entrepreneurial spirit.

//I will eliminate the entire court system because all of those lawyers creating all of that paperwork are just a waste of our resources.//

my interpretation is that a lot of this would be eliminated had it been based on british law where the loser pays.

//I'm sure that if he ever found his way to the White House he would refuse to be paid as a public servant and would fire most of the White House staff.//

a little more than a couple years ago my last grandparent, my maternal grandmother, passed on.  i was blessed to share 42 years with her.  she shared many life lessons on perseverance, self-reliance and resourcefulness.   much of what ron paul talks about is to instill these qualities in people and communities and from this we will build a better world.  just as the federal reserve creates money out of thin air many feel their path to riches is likewise.  wouldn't it be better if we as a community did what was best vs. what was easiest?

/paul's stand on drugs/

his view is to leave it up to the states.  same with abortion.  his whole mantra is the federal government is most likely not the best body to administer, enforce, deliver, etc these services.

one thing i like best is ron paul's philosophy to get the government out of our lives and leave it up to states or even better when he mentions collective groups such as communities, charities, etc.  look what the fine people at kiva.org do when they play the intermediate role in allowing people such as me to make a micro-loan to people in developing nations to start a business venture.

people helping people.  a significant finding by micro finance pioneer, and former nobel peace prize winner, muhammad yunus is that when you improve the financial well being of the mother in the family unit it underpins the well being of the whole family unit.  kiva is one more example of where you can cut a lot of bureacracy and costs out and get the money where it has to go.

it takes a big man to put down their guns and talk.  look what happened in south africa and ireland when people chose to talk.  it's pretty hard to effect meaningful change when they put you in the ground.

not too many of the candidates can talk economics with ron paul.  it is interesting to hear the commentary of people in the investment business such as peter schiff, jim rogers, jim cramer when they have witnessed ron paul and especially when he has queried ben bernanke.

i'm deeply troubled when persons choose to pick apart ron paul's message.  for those of us who embrace his message it talks much about what we wish for in life, for those that follow us and in the after life (peace, freedom, hope and prosperity).  too bad more wouldn't be open to the message so that we could enjoy more of these things while we are still living.  what a legacy it would be for those that come after us!

rather than through force imposing our views it would be best through power to sell peace, freedom, hope and prosperity to all.  for those of us that understand and embrace ron paul's message this is what he's all about.  really it's not so much about him.  it's the message!

*****

There you have it. I've given our Canadian friend our forum url. Hopefully, he'll stop in and comment—even become a mainstay. Should anyone want to check out his consistency, etc., go to dailypaul as he notes.

Because he has not been raised as a GOP or Dem voter at his parents' knee, and who bitterly hates to lose to the opposite party.

I think the lock step party voters always try to pick "the winner" who is most likely to vanquish the other side - they don't even look for the best candidate in their favorite party ( like Dr. Paul is in the GOP) - only the most likely to beat the Dems.

People outside America can afford to be more objective - they have not received the 2 party fraud indoctrination and they can't vote...yet...but when we're all one world government, who knows?

how'bout something like - Freedom is Popular, in most every place but America it seems?

Thanks, dee, for sharing this exchange with us. wonder if he lives in western Ontario somewhere, since he mentioned Michigan. the state, as a whole, might know as is reflected in the rancid economy here, but the people here are just as blindfolded as those that prefer to twist words to shadow their new found hero into the drink on that forum. I got an "11 Days Until Victory" email from a couple campaign staffers on the upcoming MI primary and there are approx. 10K supporters here. the NAFTA/CAFTA/NAU radio ad that was being played (on the biggest am news station in the state) during my drive to work for about a week, is now replaced with one for michigans favorite son-of-a-former-governor and have not heard it, or another, since. some group wanted to hold a so-called 'debate' at Cobo to coincide with the N.Am. Auto Show but couldn't make that happen either. so fwiw, it's a word of mouth campaign against ClearChannel and Murdoch and their supplicants.

keep your stick on the ice. ;)

How about ... Ron Paul = FREEDOM NUKE

"Banking was conceived in iniquity and was born in sin. The bankers own the earth. Take it away from them, but leave them the power to create money, and with the flick of the pen they will create enough deposits to buy it back again. However, take it away from them, and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear and they ought to disappear, for this would be a happier and better world to live in. But, if you wish to remain the slaves of bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, let them continue to create money ." --- Josiah Stamp

A letter to the ed in our local small town rural rag about why to vote for Ron Paul was published Friday. I was flabbergasted. Called the lady and left a message about how great it was to read it and know others here support him as well.
