It might be a bit too early to expect that RP has received any firm committments from people he has contacted. I did not mind the way he handled that question - he made a few jokes - and I think it went over well. But the part that troubled me in the Leno interview was when Jay asked RP if he were forced to vote for a Dem candidate who would he choose based on positions that were close to his own and RP said Dennis Kucinich. And RP then quickly qualified his choice by saying Kucinich and he were both anti-Iraq War but they were very far apart on domestic policies. However, I'm not sure if anyone kept listening to RP's qualification ( except for devoted RP supporters like me) after they heard him pick Kucinich as being closest to him in policy positions - it was the end of the interview with a lead into a commercial break. If I were RP, I would have just said I don't see any Dem candidate that reflects my constitutionally based positions. But for RP to pick a statistical last place loser of a Dem candidate ie. Kucinich, who is also so left wing he almost falls off the charts was most unfortunate. In fact, if I were an undecided NH independent and heard RP basically aligning himself with a) a loser and b) a far left socialist - I would have been very turned off. Americans like winners generally speaking and NH itself is not a hotbed of socialism. That particular response did not help RP at all imo.

palo verde: thank you for your informative post on this Scrapper this one I see the opposite of you, I think Ron Paul answered that question perfectly God I love that guy he's so perfect in every way Love, Palo Maybe I'm being to overly sensitive to political perceptions that result from something that might not have much significence one way or another. RP appeals to a broad cross section of supporters. So maybe there are some supporters who think Kucinch is not so bad. However, I'm more of a paleo-conservative with a sprinkle of libertarian and consequently I projected how I would interpret RP's choice - which was to have my hair stand on end. A guy like Kucinich - a bigtime nanny statist who believes in redistribution of wealth so everyone can be equally miserable -is the absolute worst candidate in the 2 parties combined from my perspective. Kucinich stands for everything I loathe. His anti-Iraq War position is the exception but even that does not make up for all of Kucinich's negatives.
I think that was possible before 9/11. Even Bush ran on no national building.
I'm stunned. Indeed. I am equally stunned by Hillary's amazing 180 over Obama. Furthermore, I'm stunned by the massive "turnout" of Democrat voters. Both occurring in a state generally considered to be more conservative than Iowa. I quite seriously believe that many of these Hillary voters were switchover Republicrats who believe Hillary is the most beatable in the final go round. These are the masses of voters who live and die by casting their lesser-of-two-evils vote every four years. I call them the Superbowl voters who treat politics as some kind of mindless our "team" must win at any cost woodenheads. American politics has become so full of such inanities that we face tremendous obstacles in our crusade for a return to a sane political arena. Oh well, only fools thought this was going to be easy.

Right. It's time for a change of tactics for the RP campaign, though. What they're doing isn't working, and $20 million will burn in a few weeks if they react the wrong way.
My emotions at the moment run more along the lines of giving this good man a boot in the pants or a good shaking. Droll exagerations like the Kucinich remark for the purpose of making a point (character and principle over empty establishment blah-blah) do not feed the bulldog. Niceness does not rule out combativeness. I give you Ron Reagan as example.

Well, I still think he's sitting on the dough till the third party announcement. Having said that, no amount amount money is going to make up for an unfocused and mile wide message and a team of strategists an inch deep.

If RP's staff doesn't wake up or shake up, the money will dry up. Two months of freezing your butt off for a Keystone Cop run campaign, hardly sustains and builds further on a grassroot base. Some of which as we know, quit their jobs, to devote to RP's success. Voter fraud was a known threat already, so I am hoping some went in with open eyes. However, Ron's staff appears to be comprimised and heads must roll.
I perceived NH to be the same way as you, iconoclast, but we were both wrong. The demographics of the state has changed and along with it came a change in the state's politics. There are more nanny state benefit dependents than independents in NH and they all came out to vote for the candidate who will most likely continue to deliver or enhance their bennies. Also regarding the number of Dem vs GOP voters that turned out as a whole... from daily kos last night using CNN statistics: 280,000 people voted for Democrats, 220,000 for Republicans. In 2000, turnout looked like this: Repub.: 238,606 Democratic: 154,639 Repubs lost ~20,000 voters while Dems damn near doubled! the 280k is a Dem primary record (up from 220k in '04), the 220k down from ~238k when McCain ran in 2000.
I forgot to ping you regarding the change in voter demographics in NH - definitely a gender imbalance as well as a change in socio-economic background.
This reminds me of the "New Square Four" as written about by Barbara Olson in her book The Final Days. It was relative to an 11th hour pardon by Bill to deliver a win for Hillary's Senate race. I'll have to dig through it, but I believe there was a powerful precinct that voted 100% for Hillary. Also, this brings back memories of the Marc Rich money, and the shenanigans of Hugh Rodham. I still don't believe Barbara made that call from the airline before the 'plane' hit the Pentagon. I remember after Olson's death, they tried to stopy Regnery from publishing her book. Checking Amazon quickly, it's out of print.

I think you're fooling yourself if you beleve you'll get that many shots on target when it's all on the line. There are plenty of accounts of several 9mm rounds on target failing to stop assailants. The reason .45, .44, .40, 10mm are favored is that one shot puts them down. Same with a 12 gauge. But don't just take my word - check around.

Palo verde the funny trait of forming water-repellent soils under it. By not allowing the water to stay under it and shedding the water out to its drip line it can out compete even the annuals. Join the Ron Paul Revolution Palo dear, have you posted commentary on why you like Ron Paul? I credit you in part with helping me discover RP's campaign because you wrote so warmly about him on TOS2. If you haven't written any sort of apologia you might consider it. Are there are any kinds of attacks on RP that you might be in a good position to deflect with a position piece? This could help Ron Paul if people find it via Google. By the way, are you a green? If so, how do you see RP's campaign helping your cause?

Love, Palo Although the Huckster is a bornagainrapturenutterRINO with no conservative positions, no particular message, I can understand why he is the most attractive of the GOPer's and RP may want to pay heed - Huckabee is very personable, he is very relaxed and he has a nice sense of humor and a nice smile big dimples - I saw him interviewed by Jay Leno and by Craig Ferguson and both times Huckabee did remarkably well. I found myself smiling along whenever he made some corny small jokes before I caught myself doing so! Then I smacked my forehead - sheesh - scrapper, that's the Huckster, smarten up! Although Dr. Paul has a terrific message and a common sense constitutionally based platform, he's so tense, so tight, so wanting to do well, you can sense that he's trying hard to appear light and easy - he forces himself to make some jokes and although he's always the articulate gentleman, RP is not telegenic - Huckster is like a big cuddly puppy dog - people forget the Huckster has no message and no platform because he makes them feel so calm and relaxed and warm and fuzzy in his presence. Huckster is a lawyer by trade and also a minister so public speaking is second nature to him. But Dr. Paul, as a physician, never needed to learn the art of public speaking- his profession typically demanded that he be proficient in one on one communication skills either with his patients or in conferring with his colleagues or fellows or residents - also the language used in medicine is very linear, scientific, brief, to the point - now Dr. Paul is swimming with the sharks, most of whom are lawyers and experienced in public speaking - and he's struggling to project a relaxed persona but at the same time he wants to deliver his message in an understandable format to laymen. He's not able to use the communication style or skills or vocabulary he used in medicine - he's addressing a different public at large. Even as a Congressman, he did not face the public speaking challenges that he faces now competing as a Pres candidate in the national theatre. I think it would help alot if Dr. Paul got some intensive lessons on public speaking from a voice coach - it wouldn't take much coaching - he's a very bright guy -but nonetheless I think it could be very useful so he gains some self confidence and learns how to project light and easy and happy while he is delivering the RP message. Basically, RP needs to become more telegenic and in short order so people remember him and his message.

I posted on this thread till late at night last night
I fell asleep instant head hit pillow
and instantly I dreamt I was in a big room where everyone was wildly cheering
and jumping uo and down, because our team won the game
some sports game
but when I opened my eyes to interpret the dream it hit me in the face
"our team won!" -- it is referring to our team behind Ron Paul
if he had actually gotten 8 per cent, it would not be encouraging
but if he got 18 percent it is very encouraging
it means Ron Paul came in third
which I think is exactly what happened
which isn't that hard to find out
they can easily find out how many Meet Up members are in each town
how many people contributed money in each town
and between the two of them compile a solid list of Ron Paul voters
and compare it to the vote tally for that town
Iowa had honest election
what he polled at in New Hampshire, he got half

His staff is amateurish, compromised usually means working for the enemy
none of the errors of the campaign staff would have come to light
they have to do their best to be on the ball now

I don't see how in this election he can fail to win
We all know government is not working, that something is wrong
All the fights are about apportioning blame
We don't all agree on who has decent character and is mistaken
and who is deliberately responsible for the corruption
The beauty of a Ron Paul Presidency is he is the solution to the problem
he is a good man who will take our country in the right direction
I submit that the source of most of our problems is that military industrial complex now determines foreign policy in DC
and both Parties are in bed with the military industrial complex
Ron Paul, practically alone in Congress, stands up to the military industrial complex
he, practically alone, does not vote for what they want
Anyone who wants our soldiers home with their families would vote for Ron Paul
because the Dems demagogue they are against the war
but meanwhile continue to vote the funding for it
Wars continue as long as they are funded
they stop on the dime when there is no more funding
Anyone who wants no more wars started for frivolous reasons
would vote for Ron Paul
He is a Constitutionalist
Congress would have to declare war before he would go along with it
And he would never use the Presidency as propaganda campaign for war which is not necessary
Ron Paul voted against the Patriot Act
again he is almost alone in this
He claims the reason so many in Congress enthusiastically endorsed the Patriot Act is because so many in Congress
wanted for long time to take away rights and liberties from citizens
9/11 and Patriot Act was their excuse
And there may be truth to that
It was generally assumed it was heat of the moment,
which caused Congress to overwhelmingly pass the Patriot Act without reading it
but heat of the moment is over, Patriot Act is still with us
so Congress wants it
By the grace of God, the Patriot Act has not been abused to the extent it could be
but it is a dangerous law to have on the books
and should very unscrupulous people ascend to power

Ron Paul did the right thing to put the Constitution and the Bill of Rights first
even in the heat of the moment
he did this because he has a passion for liberty for our citizens
this is a man we want in the White House
Anyone who wants the Constitution upheld first last and always
would vote for Ron Paul
Ron Paul explains Congress serves special interests, not the interests of citizens
And this is true
It is time we have a President who serves our interests, not special interests
The military industrial establishment now owns both parties and the media
They will not allow Ron Paul to be our President
But by a miracle of God, we still have free elections
and citizens will choose Ron Paul

Palo dear, have you posted commentary on why you like Ron Paul? I credit you in part with helping me discover RP's campaign because you wrote so warmly about him on TOS2. If you haven't written any sort of apologia you might consider it. Are there are any kinds of attacks on RP that you might be in a good position to deflect with a position piece? This could help Ron Paul if people find it via Google. By the way, are you a green? If so, how do you see RP's campaign helping your cause?

I rejoined LP because of reading your posts, while I lurked there
altho I did not stay that long, as you know
I read many posters here who have such constructive excellent suggestions for Ron Paul's campaign people
they have talent for that kind of thinking
I don't
I see we all have different talents for what we offer
I am always convinced the light is out there, if I search for it
altho half the time, while I am searching for it, some other poster comes on and gives the reason for it
this is helpful for me, because it encourages me
but my talent is I won't be budged, in wanting to find the light, and knowing it is there
your talent of course is your brilliance, which I am nowhere near
but I find it thrilling, plus it so filled with communication
look at the great number of citizens now, who are using their mind for Ron Paul
and I just don't think anything false can stand up to that light
