Worldnetdaily President Ronald Reagan. We're hearing a lot about him on the campaign trail these days. It seems everyone is invoking his name. Why? Because they sense that Americans are looking for true leadership based on the bedrock principles of our Founding Fathers: the principles of limited government, a strong national defense, traditional values and individual freedom. Ronald Reagan proved that when you govern according to these conservative principles – when you do not waiver – when you are steadfast and true to freedom – America flourishes. Which brings us back to the thousands and thousands of candidates running for local, state and national offices this year. When pondering a policy question, they should ask themselves, What Would Reagan Do? Ronald Reagan won a resounding 44-state victory in 1980. In 1984, he won a 49-state landslide. Remember, all this occurred before there was a FOX News, the World Wide Web or talk radio to keep people informed. They know that the tax cuts he fought for allowed them to keep more of their own money. They haven't forgotten who gave them back their government. Ronald Reagan's legacy is defined by timeless principles, fearless leadership and visionary solutions. I believe others can rise to the occasion and govern just as successfully as Reagan did. But we must remind them that it is impossible without resolve, courage and an undying commitment to constitutional principles. Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren. While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. He is a strict Constitutionalist. He opposes presidential autonomy and judicial activism, and rejects a welfare state or nanny state role for the federal government. He regularly votes against almost all proposals for government spending, initiatives, or taxes. He has voiced support for re-opening the 9/11 investigation. He advocates a strict non-interventionist foreign policy that avoids entangling alliances. He voted against the Iraq War Resolution. He has spoken out against torture and the abuse of executive authority in the Iraq War to override human rights guaranteed by the Constitution. He is a proponent of free trade, although he has opposed some "free trade agreements". He is a proponent of secure borders as means to addressing immigration. He believes that all immigrants should be treated fairly and equally under the law. He has spoken strongly against amnesty for illegal immigrants because it undermines the rule of law and grants pardons to lawbreakers. He opposes virtually all federal interference with the market process. He supports the abolition of the income tax, most Cabinet departments and the Federal Reserve. He endorses defederalization of the healthcare system. He is frequently considered an advocate of small business. He believes our monetary system should be tied to a currency like gold. He has been a proponent of ballot access law reform. He is against any campaign finance reforms that place any restrictions on citizens and businesses making campaign contributions to the candidate of their choice. He is pro-life. However, Paul holds that the United States Constitution does not grant the federal government any authority to legalize or ban abortion. His position on gay marriage is that defining and recognizing marriages is not a Federal or constitutional matter, but should be left as the States' right He has called for passage of tax relief bills to reduce health care costs for families. He opposes Federal participation in the drug war. He opposes Government regulating the Internet. He is pro Second Amenment. He is against Government spending money to recognize people or historical events (e.g. medal for Rosa Parks, Slavery Memorial, etc.) saying it’s easy to be generous with other people’s money.
