Congressman Wexler Is First To Call Iraq War a "Surge Of Lies"

January 10, 2008 (LPAC)--Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), who has opened a drive for the impeachment of Dick Cheney, has become the first Congressman to openly say that the Bush "surge" plan for Iraq is a failure and denounces the Rohatyn Democrats for not saying so.

In a Jan. 8 statement entitled, "Surge of Lies" Wexler writes: "A new troubling myth has taken hold in Washington and it is critical that the record is set straight. According to the mainstream media, Republicans, and unfortunately even some Democrats, the President's surge in Iraq has been a resounding success. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

"This assertion is disingenuous, factually incorrect, and negatively impacts America's national security. The Surge had a clear and defined objective to create stability and security - enabling the Iraqi government to enact lasting political solutions and foster genuine reconciliation and cooperation between Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds. This has not happened.

"There has been negligible political progress in Iraq, and we are no closer to solving the complex problems--including a power-sharing government, oil revenue agreement and new constitution--than we were before the Administration upped the ante and sent 30,000 more troops to Iraq."

Watch the rerun of Olbermann tonight. He spends about 10 minutes on the lies. With Thomas Ricks.

Title is misleading. Congressman Wexler says that it's a myth that the surge is working. He does not say that the Iraq War was based on lies. In fact, Congressman Wexler voted YES on authorizing military force in Iraq. (Oct 2002)

Snicker/

On November 7, the House of Representatives voted to send a resolution of impeachment of Vice President Cheney to the Judiciary Committee. As Members of the House Judiciary Committee, we strongly believe these important hearings should begin.

The issues at hand are too serious to ignore, including credible allegations of abuse of power that if proven may well constitute high crimes and misdemeanors under our constitution. The charges against Vice President Cheney relate to his deceptive actions leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.

Now that former White House press secretary Scott McClellan has indicated that the Vice President and his staff purposefully gave him false information about the outing of Valerie Plame Wilson as a covert agent to report to the American people, it is even more important for Congress to investigate what may have been an intentional obstruction of justice. Congress should call Mr. McClellan to testify about what he described as being asked to “unknowingly [pass] along false information.” In addition, recent revelations have shown that the Administration including Vice President Cheney may have ...read more

I'm sorry to tell you but your lengthy follow up to my message #3 makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm convinced now that you are a socialist lunatic who is smitten with envy and anger at anyone who is successful. I have no interest in ever communicating with you again.

I see your point. Wexler's whole statement can be read here:

"A Surge of More Lies

by Congressman Robert Wexler

.....The Surge has failed. If my colleagues gullibly accept the moving rationale for the Surge, just as so many have for the war itself, we will have failed as well."

It's a start, any way you look at it.

President Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act on December 23, 1913. History proved that on that day, the Constitution ceased to be the governing covenant of the American people, and our liberties were handed over to a small group of international bankers. - Secrets of the Federal Reserve by Eustace Mullins

Thanks for providing the additional link to his full text remarks.

It's a start but Robert Wexler is still a foreign interventionalist at heart I believe. Apart from the last line of his speech he's basically still using his platform to say the Iraq War was mismanaged and he even leaves open the door for more US meddling in other nations ( take the troops from Iraq and go to Pakistan next). Also he alludes to the Iraqis being at fault for being too weak to put Humpty Dumpty together again after we destroyed it for no reason and he complains that the Iraqi gov't has not agreed to an oil contract yet ( ???).

Robert Wexler is up for re-election in 2008 so he's doing his best to hedge his bets and appear like he's anti-wars for lies but really he's for them if we look closely at how he parses his words.

That would suit me fine, moron. You are too stupid to even own a computer, much less use one.
