Gannongate threatens to expose a huge GOP pedophile and male prostitution ring

By Wayne Madsen Online Journal Contributing Writer

February 18, 2005—Now that is has been discovered that "Jeff Gannon" (real name James D. Guckert), a "reporter" for Talon News Service, a front operation run by the conservative Republican-oriented GOPUSA.com, was using an alias as a cleared White House reporter, details are emerging that threaten to immerse the Bush administration in a major scandal.

"Gannongate," which is only now being mentioned by the mainstream news media, threatens to expose a potentially damaging GOP pedophile and male prostitution ring dating back to the 1980s and the administration of George H. W. Bush. James D. Guckert, using the name Jeff Gannon and possibly other aliases, was also running gay porn sites, one with a U.S. Marine Corps theme that solicited males for prostitution.

White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said he did not realize Gannon was using an alias until recently. However, rumors in the gay community are circulating about McClellan frequenting gay bars in Austin, Texas.

Gannon bypassed established Secret Service security controls, including a background check requiring a social security number, to obtain a White House press pass that identified him by an alias, an action seen by many seasoned Washington journalists as only being possible if he had favorable treatment from White House staff, especially McClellan and his predecessor, Ari Fleischer. One White House reporter expressed revulsion over the fact that it was Fleischer who took away press credentials from the late long-time White House correspondent Sarah McClendon and handed them to Gannon.

GOPUSA.com is run by a right-wing Texan and Bush friend named Bobby Eberle. In 2003, GOPUSA.com launched a vicious anti-Semitic attack against international financier George Soros, a leading philanthropist for progressive causes and a major contributor to the Democratic Party.

In 2003, Gannon was reportedly given access by White House staff to a classified State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research memorandum regarding a CIA meeting involving the dispatch of former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson to Niger to investigate claims, which turned out to be false, that Iraq had attempted to procure yellowcake uranium from the West African country. The Wilson case ultimately led to a leak to the media by unnamed White House staff of Wilson's wife's name and identity as a covert CIA agent.

It was also revealed that Jeffgannon.com had been registered by the same Delaware-based company that had registered other Republican-oriented web sites, along with those catering to pornographic military gay themes and male escort services.

TalonNews.com and GOPUSA.com are both registered to Endeavor Media Group LLC, operating from Post Office Box 891354 in Houston, Texas. The phone number provided is 999-999-9999. The registrant for a series of web sites, including Jeffgannon.com, Theconservativeguy.com, Exposejessejackson.com, Militaryescorts.com, militaryescortsm4m.com, and hotmilitarystud.com is Bedrock Corporation of 4001 Kennett Pike in Wilmington, Delaware. Bedrock is owned by Jim Guckert, the apparent real identity of Jeff Gannon. The administrative contact for Bedrock was listed as "J. Daniels," possibly another alias.

After the Gannon story broke, militaryescorts.com and hotmilitarystud.com were redirected to a secure log-in site at Cupertino, California-based www.dividezero.net/, which was registered to GKG.Net, which had a contact email in College Station, Texas, the home of Texas A&M University and the George H.W. Bush presidential library. Dividezero.net had a secure log-in window but no subscription information. Experts who track illegal content on the web, including child pornography, report that such sites are common where log-in information is provided separately by regular mail so that the identities of subscribers cannot be easily tracked by online enrollment and entry of credit card information.

Gannongate is reminiscent of a huge political scandal that surfaced in Nebraska in 1989 when it was learned that Lawrence King, the head of Franklin Community Credit Union in Omaha and a rising African American star in the GOP (he sang the national anthem at George H. W. Bush's 1988 nominating convention in New Orleans), was a kingpin—along with top Republicans in Nebraska and Washington, DC, including George H. W. Bush—in a child prostitution and pedophilia scandal. King was later convicted and jailed for fraud but pedophile and prostitution charges were never brought against him and other Nebraska Republican businessmen and politicians.

The scandal, investigated by Nebraska State Senator Loran Schmit, his assistant John DeCamp (a former GOP state senator), State Senate Committee investigator Gary Caradori, and former CIA Director William Colby, reached the very top echelons of the George H. W. Bush administration and GOP. Child prostitutes from Boys Town and other orphanages in Nebraska as well as children procured from China were reportedly flown to Washington for sexcapades with Republican politicians. GOP lobbyist Craig Spence and a number of GOP officials in the administration and Congress were implicated in the scandal, including Labor Secretary Elizabeth Dole's liaison to the White House. Young male members of the military in Washington, DC, were particularly sought after by the prostitution ring. During the early 1980s, a number of naval officers were implicated in a child pornography ring that extended from Oregon to the San Francisco Bay area and to Chicago and Washington, DC. The story about that ring was covered up by then-Secretary of the Navy John Lehman.

The Nebraska pedophile scandal was similarly covered up on orders from the highest levels of power in the senior Bush White House. Caradori and his young son were killed in a suspicious plane crash in Illinois in 1990. Colby was found floating dead in the Chesapeake Bay, near his home, in 1996. Craig Spence allegedly committed suicide in 1989. Witnesses, many of whom were abused themselves, were intimidated and subsequently jailed in Nebraska and the investigation of the pedophile scandal eventually collapsed. The entire military aspect of the King-Spence scandal is now being repeated in Washington in Gannongate.

Last year, a senior source on the Washington Times editorial staff (the same paper that broke the GOP pedophile scandal in 1989) linked White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove to gay activities involving top Republican political strategists in Washington, DC.

Gannon (Guckert) has been a major player in GOP and fundamentalist Christian politics in Washington and around the country. In 2004, "Jeff Gannon" was a featured speaker at a Capitol Hill Bible reading sponsored by anti-abortion Operation Rescue head Reverend Rob Schenk. In 1995, Schenk was the spokesman for the American Center for Law and Justice, an anti-abortion group funded by Pat Robertson. Schenk was also a major supporter of former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, who was removed from office for refusing to comply with a federal court order.

Schenk, who attended prayer meetings at John Ashcroft's Capitol Hill apartment after Ashcroft came to Washington in 1994, established his Pentecostal National Community Church at the dilapidated Giddings School in a crime-ridden neighborhood in Southeast Washington. One of his congregants was Ashcroft. The Hill newspaper ran an article on July 30, 2003, about a controversy surrounding plans by the community development Eighth Street Main Streets Project to place park benches in a small triangular park at 8th and I Streets in Southeast Washington, opposite the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks. The paper reported that a "community activist" named Jeff Gannon vehemently opposed the park bench plan claiming it would attract "vagrants, alcoholics, and other 'problem personalities.'" The park is located just five blocks from the school where "reporter" Gannon's friend Schenk first located his Pentecostal church.

Gannon hosted a web-based radio program called "Jeff Gannon's Washington," broadcast on his own web site, Jeffgannon.com, and Righttalk.com, a conservative GOP site whose registrant is based in Watsonville, California. Gannon's only journalism credentials were his attendance at a two-day seminar at the Leadership Institute's Broadcast School of Journalism in Arlington, Virginia. The head of the Leadership Institute is Morton Blackwell, a former Reagan administration official and a one-time head of the College Republicans, a post that Karl Rove also filled.

Gannon seemed particularly interested in South Dakota politics. GOP Senate candidate John Thune appeared on Gannon's radio webcast program. On February 4, 2004, while being served softball questions by Gannon, Thune called Daschle an "obstructionist and antagonist to President Bush."

According to Roll Call, Gannon also served as an official of the Free Speech Foundation, an organization that helped defend ProBush.com from a lawsuit by former South Dakota Democratic Senator James Abourezk. The web site features a "Traitor's List" that includes Abourezk. The former senator and Navy veteran sued ProBush.com for defamation. Abourezk asked for $5 million in damages and a public apology after sending a cease and desist letter to the web site owner, a 21-year old suburban Philadelphia resident named Mike Marino, who registered the site using a post office box address in West Point, Pennsylvania. After Abourezk's lawsuit threat, Gannon came to Marino's assistance. Other names on the Traitor's List include President Jimmy Carter, Susan Sarandon, Viggo Mortensen, Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, Howard Stern, John Kerry, Edward Kennedy, Martin Luther King III, Rep. Cynthia McKinney, Michael Moore, The Dixie Chicks, and former Democratic Rep. Gary Condit of California.

Gannon was also wired into the neo-conservative American Enterprise Institute (AEI). He wrote a pro-Iraq war article for the March 1, 2004, issue of their magazine, American Enterprise. AEI employs such ardent neo-conservative figures as Richard Perle, Michael Ledeen, and Lynne Cheney. Ironically, many of Gannon's articles were anti-gay rights, such as one that insinuated that John Kerry's "pro-homosexual platform" would make him the nation's "first gay president."

I can't say she didn't show. The protest was supposed to be from 6:00 until 8:00. I didn't get there until about 7:15. There wasn't a living soul there when I arrived. They could have been there at 6:00.

White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said he did not realize Gannon was using an alias until recently. However, rumors in the gay community are circulating about McClellan frequenting gay bars in Austin, Texas.

Remember this?

*****************

Mr. Bush wandered over during Mr. Reid's chat with the Prime Minister. Mr. Reid introduced himself and shook hands with Mr. Bush.

"Well, what do you do for this guy?" the President asked as he pointed to the Prime Minister.

"Well, you know, sir, I can't really say," Mr. Reid said. "It's not that I don't want to. It's just that, you know, I don't really know from day to day."

This is true. Mr. Reid handles a number of files and performs a number of different duties, depending on the issue and the day.

The President chuckled. "Well, you got a pretty face," he told the surprised Mr. Reid. He wasn't done. "You got a pretty face," he said again. "You're a good-looking guy. Better looking than my Scott [McClellan] anyway."

If Scott McClellan is gay, it certainly puts the president's wierd remarks in an even wierder light.

"You sure got a pretty face," is a line right out of the movie "Deliverance."

And he said MY Scott.

Was it also MY Gannon?

GARY CARADORI , KEY INVESTIGATOR OF FRANKLIN, DIES IN PLANE CRASH

The evening of July 11, 1990, Gary Caradori, the investigator for the Nebraska State Legislature, Special Committee, called Senator Loran Schmit, Chairman of the Committee, from Chicago and told him he had the "smoking gun". Caradori told Senator Schmit he would fly that night from Chicago on his private plane with his son en route to Lincoln, Nebraska, with the evidence. The plane exploded in mid-air a short time later while flying over Aurora, Illinois killing Caradori and his 8-year-old son.

Officials claimed the plane disintegrated in mid-air. They denied an explosion took place. De Camp writes in his book, "The Franklin Cover-Up"; "A farmer reported he saw a flash of light, heard an

explosion, and saw the plane plunge to the ground .The eyewitness account of the flash of light and the explosion was on the early edition of television news in Nebraska, but was pulled from subsequent reports which said that the plane exploded on impact". (p. 2-3)

Bob Wadman, former Chief of Police of Omaha, and a perpetrator identified by the children (see above), was Chief of Police in Aurora at the time.

Caradori’s briefcase and the rear seat to the plane have never been found. Ted Gunderson (this writer), suspects his briefcase contained the evidence mentioned the previous night to Senator Schmit, probably the incriminating materials, including photographs, provided by Rusty Nelson to Caradori (See Rusty Nelson statement below). The rear seat to the airplane was not found, Gunderson suspects, to avoid evidence of a bomb.

U.S. EXPANDS PROBE OF 'CALL BOY' RING

Paul M. Rodriguez and George Archibald
The Washington Times; Final Section: A Page: A1
Thursday, July 6, 1989

A Secret Service officer assigned to the midnight shift at the White House was interrogated for more than 10 hours Monday about his association with Craig J. Spence - Washington lobbyist; host to the capital's political, business and media elite; and patron of homosexual call-boy services - and the officer was said to have failed a lie-detector test.

The officer, Reginald A. deGueldre, accepted a gold Rolex wristwatch valued at $8,000 in return for "unspecified favors" from Mr. Spence, for whom he arranged at least four middle-of-the-night private tours of the White House for high-ranking military officers, well-known figures in the news media and male prostitutes.

Mr. Spence, said one law enforcement official close to the case, also asked Officer deGueldre to intervene on his behalf to help clear Secret Service records of a 1987 arrest at a White House gate for disorderly conduct, described by one source as a lewd sex act.
Officer deGueldre has been told he will be called to testify before a federal grand jury.

President Reagan was in the White House residential quarters during one of the Spence visits, which was restricted to the West Wing, site of the Oval Office.

U.S. Attorney Jay Stephens, meanwhile, widened his investigation of the homosexual prostitution ring, which has ensnared Mr. Spence and several key Reagan and Bush administration officials.

Mr. Stephens' office is now looking closely at the White House tours and the activities of Mr. Spence, 48, a consultant to Japanese government officials and others.

John Pyles, the Secret Service special agent assigned to direct the investigation of allegations of breaches of White House security, said only, "We're not in a position to talk about this."

Mr. Pyles and Secret Service spokesman Allan Cramer said they were ordered to refer inquiries about the investigation to Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Strasser, who is preparing evidence for presentation to the federal grand jury.

"You'd have to ask them why they referred you to me," Mr. Strasser said yesterday. "There is nothing I care to say to you about this at this time."

The Secret Service, after accounts were published in The Washington Times, has talked to people who took the July 3, 1988, White House tour set up by Mr. Spence, several of those interviewed say.

The agents are investigating possible security breaches by those who entered the White House compound as well as by Officer deGueldre, The Times was told.

One of those reached yesterday by the Secret Service said questioning focused on Mr. Spence and his associates. Questions were also asked about Mr. Spence and the use of cocaine.

Officer deGueldre failed the portion of a polygraph test involving favors he may have done for Mr. Spence, the law enforcement official said. The Secret Service officer visited on several social occasions with Mr. Spence, who was said to have held out the offer of a high-paying security industry job in Florida to him.

Officer deGueldre, who said he immediately reported himself to his superiors when the story of the late-night Spence visit appeared in the June 29 editions of The Washington Times, said he had done nothing wrong.

"To this day, I still believe that Craig is still an American hero," the Secret Service officer said. "The guy never hit on me. . . . My relationship to him was officer to citizen. . . . That's how I met him - when I was walking the street (as a patrolman in the embassy area of the fashionable Kalorama neighborhood where Mr. Spence lived).

"The first time he called me was maybe five years later," Officer deGueldre said. "He said he wanted to be my friend and invited me to a party. . . . I was shocked.

"I was introduced on a one-to-one basis with some very important people. . . . I met top brass, politicals . . . I was invited to a lot of functions at Craig's house. There was all kinds of heavy types there."

But, the officer added: "I had no idea about sex, drugs, nothing like that. . . . A lot of stuff now makes sense though. . . . I always suspected he worked for the CIA."

Officer deGueldre said he understands, given his free access to the White House and the president's living quarters, why the Secret Service is concerned about the Spence tours.

Mr. Spence, said one law enforcement official close to the case, also asked Officer deGueldre to intervene on his behalf to help clear Secret Service records of a 1987 arrest at a White House gate for disorderly conduct, described by one source as a lewd sex act.

Three persons who went along on the post-midnight tour of the White House arranged by Mr. Spence July 3, 1988, recalled being admitted by a uniformed Secret Service officer named "Reggie."

"Reggie met us at the gate, and he was the one who let us in," one man said in an interview. "There was another guard who was obviously upset by this."

The three persons also remembered seeing "Reggie" at various parties given by Mr. Spence at which "Reggie" appeared to be serving as a bodyguard or security man for the host.

Others said Mr. Spence used "Reggie" to arrange other White House tours, including one that Mr. Spence took with a 15-year-old boy, whom he identified as his son Will.

That tour, according to former friends and associates of Mr. Spence, occurred June 29, 1988. The "son" had a Southern accent and was actually a male prostitute who provided sexual services for Mr. Spence and several male friends.

Mr. Cramer, the Secret Service spokesman, declined to answer questions about these tours, too. All inquiries about Mr. Spence's past White House dealings and visits were covered by the gag order imposed by the U.S. Attorney's Office, he said.

Evidence concerning Mr. Spence - even information about his past White House connections - is being tightly held by the Secret Service "because it's tied into a criminal fraud case we are investigating."

"We're under orders from the U.S. attorney. . . . The U.S. attorney has restricted us from commenting on that case at all, or anything peripheral to it, because of the judicial tie-in," Mr. Cramer said.

Mr. Stephens' office, which first agreed to discuss the call-boy ring investigation with reporters for The Times last week but later in the day declined to do so, did not respond to inquiries yesterday.

The U.S. Attorney's Office to date has said only that it is investigating "possible credit-card fraud" in connection with arrests made in raids on a house on 34th Place NW, described as the headquarters of a homosexual prostitution ring operating as an escort service.

The Times learned that the FBI is eager to investigate illegal interstate prostitution activities and other possible federal violations incurred by operators of the homosexual prostitution ring, but evidence confiscated by the Secret Service during raids on the house on 34th Place in February and in May is not being shared with the bureau.

This evidence includes information involving high-level government officials and political celebrities who were clients of the ring.

Several law enforcement authorities said relations between local and federal law enforcement agencies have been strained by the Secret Service's behavior in the call-boy case.

The Secret Service - an agency within the Treasury Department whose 1,900 special agents and 960 uniformed personnel are charged with investigating currency counterfeiting and credit-card fraud as well as protecting the president and vice president - is largely dependent on the Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Capitol Police, National Park Police, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies, Mr. Cramer acknowledged in an interview yesterday.

For example, when the Secret Service arrests anyone on the White House grounds, the person is turned over to D.C. police for "processing, transportation and lock-up," Mr. Cramer said. He declined to discuss allegations that the Secret Service had "frozen out" the FBI in the call-boy investigation.

Craig Spence was linked this week to a Japanese politician, Motoo Shiina, a leading member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party who is considered an inside favorite to succeed Prime Minister Sousuke Uno.

Federal court records in Washington revealed that Mr. Spence and Mr. Shiina engaged in a bitter lawsuit in 1984 over the ownership of a house on Wyoming Avenue NW, valued last year at $1.15 million. The two-story Victorian house in which Mr. Spence later lived, was planted with electronic bugs and video recording equipment that, according to homosexual call boys and others who routinely visited the house, was used to make incriminating tapes to blackmail guests.

Mr. Spence has told several current and former friends that, after obtaining the money, he blackmailed Mr. Shiina by threatening to reveal that the cash to buy the house had been brought into the country in violation of currency regulations. Mr. Shiina settled the lawsuit out of court after he was ordered to answer questions about the money's origins.

I wonder if all those pedophiles will ever be exposed? [GL:Comment Pulled: rumor; potential libel. Need proof before making this type of comment.] Then there was the big deal in Belgium a bunch of years ago that started to expose big names in European governments for molesting kids then it all went quiet for no known reason. Seems like every time the truth almost comes out people die and the story gets ignored.

Our elite are evil to the core. They are the most greedy, sick, cruel and immoral people on the planet. Yet they hold all the power and money. Any time the light of day tries to shine on their activities it is put out by them.

I am really starting the think the enemy is not democrats or liberals or any other political boogeyman. The real enemy are the people who we never see or hear about. The ultra rich who never have had to mingle with us "common folk". They are not affected by any policies or regulations. They only perceive us as cattle to be herded and used to accomplish their own nefarious goals.

Thanks I'll check it out.. also here is the latest on Gannon:

1. According to Editor & Publisher he began using a pseudonym in 2001:

He began using the [Jeff] Gannon name in 2001, while working in Pennsylvania to help a friend with a start-up business in auto repair, one of several jobs he said he'd had outside of journalism prior to coming to Washington.
2. He actually began using the pseudonym "Jeff" in 1999.
Gannon/Guckert started using the name "Jeff" by September 1999 at the latest. Gannon told Paul Leddy, the man who built his escort Web site, that his name was "Jeff," and several of the photos on the escort site are named variations of "Jeff.jpg." Also, an escort customer left a review on one of Gannon's escort sites stating that he hired "Jeff" in the winter of 1999 (the review was posted in July of 2000 and refers to the prior winter).
3. So why does Gannon appear to be hiding when he really started using the pseudonym?

4. Gannon told E&P in the same interview cited above:
GANNON: I use a pseudonym, because my real name is very difficult to pronounce, to remember and to spell. And many people who have been talking about me on television have yet to pronounce it correctly.
But Guckert used the pseudonym "Jeff" with Paul Leddy, the Web developer, yet Leddy says Guckert never provided his last name. If Guckert only uses the pseudonym to make it easier for folks to pronounce, remember and spell his name, why was "Jeff" a better name than "James" to give the Web developer? Same question regarding Guckert using the name "Jeff" with his escort clients. Did he actually tell the escort clients his last name was Gannon, or did he stick with "Jeff," and if he stuck with Jeff, why did he use Jeff, as it's not any easier to remember, pronounce or spell, and that's the reason he said he used the name?

Not to mention, this doesn't answer the question of WHY he changed his first name at all. Anderson Cooper hit Gannon on this on CNN yesterday (Friday).
GANNON: I use a pseudonym, because my real name is very difficult to pronounce, to remember and to spell. And many people who have been talking about me on television have yet to pronounce it correctly.

COOPER: But I mean, your real name is James and you used the pseudonym Jeff.

GANNON: Yes.

COOPER: How is James so much harder than Jeff?

GANNON: No, no, I meant my last name.

COOPER: Well, your real last name is Guckert, and the pseudonym you used is Gannon.

GANNON: Yes. It's easier to pronounce, to remember and to spell.
First, Gannon isn't that much easier than Guckert - does Gannon have one n or two, and is it on or en? But more importantly, Jeff is not any easier to pronounce, spell or remember than James. Sure, his answer MIGHT work for Guckert, but it doesn't explain why he didn't just become James Gannon. His answer simply doesn't work for why he changed his first name. So why DID he change his first name? There could have been lots of reasons, maybe he just hated the names James. But he didn't say that. He said it was to make it easier to spell, etc., which simply isn't right.

5. Since he used "Jeff" as his male escort pseudonym, why didn't he change it when he went to cover the White House? If you were really looking to leave your hooker past behind, and wanted to work covering the White House of all places, who would keep using their fake hooker name while working in the White House? You'd either adopt a new first-name pseudonym, or revert to your real name (James). He didn't do that. He kept his hooker name at the White House. Why?

Something funny is going on with his pseudonym.

That's the least of his problems! For starters, I wonder if he'll live to see next month!

True.. but there is something odd about it or he wouldn't be lying about it.. he's hiding more apparently .. what he sees as far worse than his gay prostitution..

Sure, it's from whom he got all that "golden" info he gave to that radio producer. Like "shock and awe" 4 days before we invaded Iraq.

Robin, do you have a live link to the story reporting on Bush's "My Scott" pretty face gaff? I need it for my new verse. Here's the graphic I'm using for it, by the way:

DailyKos has copy/pasted the article here

That originated here (but now it costs money): Bush prefers our pretty boy to his pretty boy

SmirkingChimp also copy/pasted the same article with the same link

Thanks, Robin. It's done! I revised my verse slightly. Here's the final, interlinked version:

twenty-second verse: O Bushieful for closet gays,
Who work on Bush's staff,
"My Scott's sure got a pretty face,"
Leered Bush in one queer gaff!
America! America!
Bush threw Gannon a pass,
From gay-whore pimp to press corps temp,
Despite his ali-ass!

Yea, I found that before I read your reply.

Yea, the ali-ass line came to me this morning. It definitely works better, I think. Glad you liked it. LOL.
