Science/Tech See other Science/Tech Articles Title: Massive Deformation Detected In North American Intraplate, Earthquakes Increasing In New Madrid Fault Zone Russian scientists are reporting today that Russian space satellites are detecting what appears to be a massive deformation in the North American Intraplate due to the continued buildup of stresses on the North American Plate in the New Madrid Fault Zone Region, and as we have previously reported about in our June 15th report titled "North American Intraplate Collapsing Heralding New Madrid Fault Zone Cataclysm as Rare Major Triplet Earthquakes Occur in the Americas" and wherein we had stated; Russian Scientists are reporting today that the rare Earthquake Triplet Events occurring over the last 36 hours in Chile (7.8 Magnitude Event), Alaska (6.9 Magnitude Event) and California (7.2 Magnitude Event), coupled with todays New Madrid Earthquake (1.6 Magnitude Event), are signaling the breaking apart of the North American Intraplate in the area of the New Madrid Fault Zone. Of this most strange of fault zones we can read more about as reported by the United States Stanford University in their report titled "New Madrid earthquakes still threaten central United States, scientists conclude" and which says; "Intraplate zones are something of a mystery," notes Segall. "We can't even map the fault, so we don't really know how big it is." "As scientists, we don't understand what's happening in the intraplate setting all that well," adds Kenner. "What we tried to do in our current Science study is to come up with a model that's a better approximation of the New Madrid seismic zone." The Kenner-Segall model suggests that there is a preexisting weak zone beneath the New Madrid fault where stress accumulates over time. "You may not be able to see very much stress accumulation," observes Segall, "but it's there." After many years, the stress shifts from the weak zone toward the surface, where it builds up and eventually causes the fault to rupture, triggering a large earthquake as the ground slips some 15 to 30 feet. "The New Madrid fault is like a crack in the wall," comments Segall. "You try to cover it with plaster, but the crack reappears over and over again. It's always going to be there, because it's a preexisting weakness. "I can't emphasize enough that there is a huge uncertainty when it comes to intraplate events," he adds. "For example, we don't know why the earthquakes come in triplets, but it has happened on a regular basis in the past." Further evidence of the increasing instability of this New Madrid Fault Zone Region can be seen in the reports reaching us from the United States showing an ever increasing number of earthquake events, and as we can see as reported by the Associated Press News Service in their article today titled "Second Earthquake In 10 Hours Hits Western Parts Of Kentucky" and which says; "The National Earthquake Center reports an earth tremor Monday morning measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale was centered at Clinton in Hickman County. It was the second earthquake within ten hours to be centered in Hickman County, but both were of minor intensity. Sunday night's tremor occurred at 10 p.m. and was measured at 3.0." What is most concerning to Russian scientists about the North American Intraplate Region is the likelihood of vast amounts of damage to be caused by a Major Earthquake Event because even the most minor of these earthquakes can be felt across virtually the entire Mid Western and Eastern Coastal Regions of the United States, and as we can see exampled by the Associated Press in their article titled "Minor Earthquake Hits Western Kentucky, Felt In Missouri, Illinois" and which says; "There was no damage, but lots of people in southern and eastern Missouri get a bumpy wake-up call Monday morning. A 3.9 magnitude earthquake at 7:21 a.m. was centered near Clinton, Kentucky, but felt in parts of southern and eastern Missouri, as well as in Tennessee and southern Illinois." What remains to be seen, according to Russian scientists, is if the stresses building within the North American Intraplate will continue to be transferred to the United States Western Coastal Regions, and who are still experiencing both earthquake and aftershock events and as we can see as reported by the All Headline News Service in their article today titled "Fifth Earthquake Hits California Coast" and which says; "Early Sunday morning, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck 120 miles off the northern Californian coast. The U.S. Geological Survey says the earthquake happened at 1:27am, and is placing the epicenter 130 miles West of Eureka, California According to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department, the county in which Eureka resides, there were no reports of damages or injuries. Last Tuesday, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck almost 80 miles off the coast Tuesday prompting a tsunami warning which stretched along the Pacific coast from Mexico to Canada. Officials cannot say whether or not more earthquakes, or aftershocks will happen, yet the frequency and strength of the recent seismic events have put many Pacific coast residents on alert." As we have always found in these circumstances, the American people themselves are not being alerted to the heightened dangers of a Major Event in these New Madrid Regions by their National Leaders or Media Organizations but from the small towns and cities in this New Madrid Fault Zone Area their local media organs are beginning to notice these events, and as we can see as reported by the KAIT Television News Service in Jonesboro, Arkansas titled "Tremor along New Madrid Fault This Morning Felt in Four States" and which says; "Quakes of 4.0 or stronger occur only about once every 18 months or so in the New Madrid Fault region. There have been three this year with the latest earlier this month near Ridgely, Tennessee." From our March 6th report warning of these events, and titled "Arctic Circle Earthquakes Begins North American Continent Instability, Greater Earthquakes Sure to Follow", we had stated as a warning to these Westerners; Dr. G.P. Avetisov, Russian Academy of Sciences, Saint Petersburg, in his report to the United States scientific organization National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and titled Seismically active zones of the Arctic, has said, "It is noteworthy that the disturbed mid-oceanic seismic belt is colinear with Eurasian submeridional Franz-Victoria and Saint Anna offshore troughs. These troughs show a few earthquakes magnitude up to 6.5 on their intersection with the continental slope." The relationship therefore between these two earthquake events in Arctic Russia and Quebec Canada can not be underestimated because, and as stated by the Canadian Governments Natural Resources Ministry, "Canada east of the Cordillera, extending north from the United States border to the Arctic Ocean, comprises about two-thirds of the stable craton of the North American plate." And now today as we are evidencing these events, not to the stability, but rather to the instability of the entire Eastern Seaboard Regions of the areas of Canada, the United States and the Caribbean Sea are we concerned about. Of concern to Russian researchers has also been that the United States Geological Services Quaternary Faults Maps for the Eastern Regions of this country are non-existent, so no further estimations can be made as to the immediate future course of these events. However, if these Northern Hemisphere events are indeed mirroring those of the Southern Hemispheres experience in December, 2004 (where an arctic pole (north or south) earthquake event precedes a much larger boundary plate event) a much larger event for this troubled region may be imminent. And as I had previously detailed in my December 27, 2004 report titled, "Social Commentary on the Great Earthquakes of 2004", and had said, Not receiving attention in the Western media has been information relating to the 8.2 magnitude Antarctica earthquake prior to yesterdays 9.0 earthquake event, and as if there were no connection between the two. What we had previously noted about these Western peoples remains true today in that they are not able to comprehend the totality of the earthquake events happening all across the globe and either see or understand their interrelationships. This is especially strange in that even the youngest Russian school child can understand the earths tectonic plates and how when one presses upon another the other one naturally moves too. Whatever will be the final outcome of these present events we do not know, however it would be prudent for those in the Americas to be prepared, and as we have also learned their own governments have encouraged them to do, and as we can see by the American Government Organization FEMA who has stated on their website Ready.gov and gives this New Madrid Fault Zone Area their Highest Warning: "One of the most frightening and destructive phenomena of nature is a severe earthquake and its terrible aftereffects. An earthquake is a sudden movement of the earth, caused by the abrupt release of strain that has accumulated over a long time. For hundreds of millions of years, the forces of plate tectonics have shaped the earth, as the huge plates that form the earths surface slowly move over, under, and past each other. Sometimes, the movement is gradual. At other times, the plates are locked together, unable to release the accumulating energy. When the accumulated energy grows strong enough, the plates break free. If the earthquake occurs in a populated area, it may cause many deaths and injuries and extensive property damage." But perhaps to the citizens of that country in their Arkansas Region should go the strongest warnings.
