Commentary - 12/01/2007 The Lid On America's Coffin [The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007]
Quietly, the PATRIOT Act was introduced into the House on October 23, 2001.
[Though there were some objections and concerns raised about the legislation, the vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut short the debate and pass the bill. America's coffin was being built, being opposed by only one vote, the sole dissenting Senator being Russ Feingold. (More below.)]
Quietly, H.R. 1955 was passed through the House of Representatives.
[Oct 23, 2007: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill, needing a two-thirds majority. The totals were 404 Ayes, 6 Nays, 22 Present/Not Voting.]

Quietly, S 1959 is now in the Senate.

Forget about presidents and congresspersons who lied their way into history.
Forget about valiant men and women who fought and died for our country since 1776.
Forget about the light that once was a beacon to the world for decency and freedom.
Forget about your children and your children's children, because the realization of what's taking place will be much too painful.
Forget you ever existed, because the coffin lid's being fitted as you read this.
Unless you act! Tell your state senators NOT to pass this legislation.
Tell them YOUR reasons why this is NOT being done in YOUR interest.
If S1959 passes, then sometimes the dragon wins.
Quietly, the lid on America's coffin will be locked tight.

Violent Radicalization-Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act heads for Senate Vote
Senator Russ Feingold said it best in 2001, when the coffin was being built for America:
"I have been troubled in the past 6 weeks by the potential loss of commitment in the Congress and the country to traditional civil liberties. . . .
Of course, there is no doubt that if we lived in a police state, it would be easier to catch terrorists. If we lived in a country that allowed the police to search your home at any time for any reason; if we lived in a country that allowed the government to open your mail, eavesdrop on your phone conversations, or intercept your email communications; if we lived in a country that allowed the government to hold people in jail indefinitely based on what they write or think, or based on mere suspicion that they are up to no good, then the government would no doubt discover and arrest more terrorists.
But that probably would not be a country in which we would want to live. And that would not be a country for which we could, in good conscience, ask our young people to fight and die. In short, that would not be America."
He was obviously correct six years ago. It would not be America, anymore.
America's actual homegrown enemies are now finishing the coffin's lid.
