Key word suspended. If he had withdrawn from the race then the following “rules” would have applied. http://www.mtgop.org/About/Default.aspx?SectionId=689 H. Organization and Certification. 1)……….2) ……….3) The delegates will be bound to vote on the first ballot at the Republican National Convention for the winner of the Montana Presidential Caucus, unless the winning candidate withdraws, dies, or issues a formal written release of the delegates. In such a case of the candidate’s withdrawal, death, or formal written release the delegates shall be open to vote for the candidate of their choice. IV. State Officers’ Convention These rules were adopted Aug 25th 2007 This evening I watched a local TV news broadcast where The Chairman of the Montana GOP Erik Iverson was interviewed. The interview started explaining the rules as applied to a withdrawal but then Erik went on to say that since Mitt has suspended his campaign then apparently different rules apply. He said that Mitt could (by written letter) now assign the Montana delegates to commit to another candidate of Mitt’s choice? What kind of shit is that? I searched the Montana GOP and the National GOP rules and could not find any references to these rules? To make things even worse Erik then said that McCain would be Mitts obvious choice? Pile it on higher and deeper buddy! Finally things really deteriorate when the broadcast goes on to interview one single voter that supports McCain. Most Montana TV & Radio stations are owned by folks who don’t even live here anyway. Thanks a lot for standing by your mandates FCC. While on the Internet I watched / listened to the Paul speech from the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday, February 7, 2008 while I read the pages on the Montana GOP Platform.
