With the race to succeed him reaching a critical juncture, President Bush this morning began rallying the Republican base around its presumptive nominee, John McCain, and in the process tried to define his own legacy for the general election campaign to come.

In a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, Bush offered an implicit endorsement of McCain's bona fides as a true conservative in the face of deep skepticism on the right. Although he did not mention McCain by name, the president said whoever ends up being the Republican nominee will represent conservative values.

This endorsement is the kiss of death. (1 image)

Bush ought to be 100% behind McCain, Mad Mac outdoes Bush on every single issue. Somebody here said that McCain is Bush on steroids - I'd say that McCain is more like a senile Bush on uppers and acid.

Not that an endorsement from somebody with a 20% approval rating is much help, but it might win over the anti-Mac Bushbots who stupidly hang on every word of their Dear Leader while snubbing a guy who stands for the same damn policies.

"... Bush offered an implicit endorsement of McCain's bona fides as a true conservative..."

How the hell would he know what a true conservative is. What he read about it? LOL

Bush thinks that he's a "conservative" because TV and talk radio say that he is. Since Bush and McCain agree on just about everything, McCain must be "conservative" too. Not that the word means much today.

I wonder of Jeb Bush is on the 'short list' for VP?

That might just pacify the hatewing radio crowd...

Someone probably read it to him out of the latest edition of CFR Quarterly or maybe some of his bones brothers told him.

Please, anything but another election with BOTH a Bush and a Clinton on the list.

Anyway, I'll bet that Romney dropped out of the race because he was promised a VP slot. So for better or for worse (probably neither) instead of another Bush, we'll probably get a rich Mormon Ken Doll on the ticket.

McInSane was loyal to the party (not necessarily the country), he paid his dues, and it's his turn (to lose).

On one of the rare occasions that I have listened to McAmnesty for more than a minute, he was bragging about how he had played such a major role in the big military decisions is recent years /

then out of the other side of his mouth /

he proceed to tell how he was the right candidate for President to bring about needed change.

I changed the channel.

Our citizens do not deserve a President as good as Dr. Ron Paul. What we deserve is higher taxes, more government inefficiency, war, regulations and devalued currency.(me)

GOA On John McCain's Record

Arizona Senator John McCain is running for President (again). He has been courting various conservative leaders in his quest to secure the Republican nomination. McCain wants voters to believe that he is a conservative... but his record would certainly suggest otherwise.

Take, for instance, his record on gun rights and political speech affecting Second Amendment activists. Abysmal, wretched, and pathetic are words that come to mind.
