Most people know, even if it was learned the day of the Super Bowl, it was the Giants vs Patriots.

The Patriots had an unbroken record. They were "unstoppable". From the opening day in 1776 they were winers. They won 18 straight. Everyone 'knew' the 'Patriots' would win, after all, there were more of US than them, Giants, the Federal Government.

But no, at the end of the game, End Game, the Giant(s) won.

But in reality, our 1776 Patriots were losing every battle, up until the end.

It is possible to lose almost every battle but win the war.

Yes, there were very few that were won. Bunker Hill, the Delaware crossing, Cowpens and of course the final battle of Yorktown. Any others?

The Battle of Blue Licks, near the very end; we lost half our men (one of my ancestors survived, Samuel Shortridge who married Sally Scholl - two of her brothers survived also).

My overall history is weak on the battles of the Revolutionary War, you recalled more than I could.

I'm not scholar on the R war, certainly.

At Bunker Hill, we lost the hill but inflicted so many casualties on the British it was hailed a victory.

When Washington did the famous crossing of the Delaware river, during a Christmas eve, or close to it I think, they caught the (again, i think) German mercenaries for the British drunk and won the day (night) without taking a single casualty, killed or wounded.

The battle of Cowpens I learned from Mel Gibson's "The Patriot" in which it was portrayed. I believe Washington's appointed general of that army only saw one battle and that was it. The rest of the time he was running all over the south wearing down the numerically and superiorly armed and trained British.

I suspect he did not get the place in history he deserved. I don't even remember his name, though I'm not good at that sort of thing anyway.

I think you mean General Daniel Morgan (of Welsh extraction). He may have been Daniel Boone's maternal uncle.

He invented the cowpen strategy. Didn't know he ran all over the south. We really should all take a closer look at the R war.

I'm only relying on one documentary program I saw on him. "all over the south" is an exaggeration, but the Brits wanted to engage him and he kept declining the invitation, retreating and manuvering, dividing his forces so there'd be no battle. At one point, he moved his forces across a river, keeping the boats he commandeered, just as the advance scouts reached the water. He frustrated the Brits continuously.

And then came Cowpens.

Always well worthwhile.
