We'll nuke Iran - Bush promises Israel Thu, 01/10/2008 - 16:08 - Wire Services

US President George W. Bush promised Israel's opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu that the United States will join the Jewish state in a nuclear strike against Iran, Israel Radio reported today.

Former Prime Minister Netanyahu, opposition Likud party's hardline chairman who opposes the US-backed Annapolis peace process, reiterated to President Bush his stance, that a pre-emptive nuclear strike against Iran's nuclear installations was the only way to stop the Islamic nation's nuclear weapons ambitions.

"I told him my position and Bush agreed," Netanyahu told Israel Radio.

During their 45-minute meeting at King David hotel in Jerusalem Netanyahu also told Bush that "Jerusalem belongs to the Jewish people and will remain under Israeli sovereignty for eternity."

President Bush issued a stark warning to Iran over Strait of Hormuz incident, saying that "all options are on the table to protect our assets."

“There will be serious consequences if they attack our ships, pure and simple,” Bush said during the joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jerusalem http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/01/20080109-4.html . “And my advice to them is, don't do it.”

Bush criticized those who interpret the National Intelligence Estimate, which found that Iran gave up its nuclear weapons program in 2003, as a sign that Iran was no longer a threat.

"Let me remind you what the NIE actually said," Bush stold reporters. "It said that as far as the intelligence community could tell, at one time the Iranians had a military -- covert military program that was suspended in 2003 because of international pressure. My attitude is that a non-transparent country, a country which has yet to disclose what it was up to, can easily restart a program."

How many people on this forum knows that UK actually can't fire no nuclear weapons. You see,all nukes in the UK are under the control of US and any decision on their use must first be approved in the Washington. Once approved, nukes will be launched but again not by UK military but by the US-ans from the one or more military bases stationed on the UK. UK has nukes but have no control over them.

I have no first hand info about Israel, but would be very surprised that Israel has ability to launch anything on it's own. Everything is under control of US army stationed in Israel. And order to launch will come from Washington.

How do you know all that about the UK?

The UK is NOT even mentioned in the article.

Indeed, but is good reference point to try to explain that the very same thing probably apply to Israel. US don't allow lots of freedom to it's allies, that's my point.

It's hard for me to believe that zion would have their launch-codes in the hands of the chimperor...really hard.

What would be the point of other countries giving over to us their launch-codes?

The more that I think about it, the goofier, and goofier, it sounds to me.

lodwick:

I, too, have reservations about any claim that a sovereign nation would surrender control of its nuclear weapons to a foreign government. The UK, Pakistan, et cetera, have such weapons not because of, but in spite of, the US.

Israel, on the other hand, continues to deny that it has nuclear weapons, even though it now possesses submarines that are capable of launching nuclear-tipped missiles. Further, and contrary to gord's assertion, there are no US troops stationed in Israel.

Lastly, gord's allegations lack credibility. This is not against gord personally, but he has nothing to substantiate anything he wrote -- and rumors and gossip don't count.

Fair enough.

Further, I did never mention Pakistan, but Pakistan is case in point. It points to the scale of efforts USA is making in order to control nuclear arsenal of its allies. USA is paranoid about it.

About rumors and gossip - until someone from the inner circles speaks out, everything is in domain of rumors (we don't torture, etc.).

About UK - it's not my claim. It's a claim made by someone from the inner circles and I trust it to be accurate.

About Israel - they got nukes from the US. Do you, or anybody, believes that US will gave away dozens upon dozens of nukes away without ability to control them?
