NIU Gunman Stopped Taking Medication February 15, 2008 11:41 AM EST DEKALB, Ill. - The man who gunned down five people at Northern Illinois University in a suicidal rampage became erratic after halting his medication and carried a shotgun to campus inside a guitar case, police said Friday. The man, 27-year-old former student Stephen Kazmierczak, was also wielding three handguns during Thursday's ambush inside a lecture hall. Two of the weapons - the pump-action Remington shotgun and a Glock 9mm handgun - were purchased legally less than a week ago, on Feb. 9, authorities said. They were purchased in Champaign, where Kazmierczak was enrolled at the University of Illinois. The other weapons were still being traced. Campus Police Chief Donald Grady said investigators recovered 48 shell casings and six shotgun shells following the attack in Cole Hall. The gunman paused to reload his shotgun after opening fire on a crowd of terrified students in a geology class, sending them running and crawling toward the exits. He shot himself to death on the stage of the hall. Kazmierczak, whose first name was earlier listed as Steven, was taking some kind of medication, Grady said. "He had stopped taking medication and become somewhat erratic in the last couple of weeks," Grady said, declining to name the drug or provide other details. Correcting information his office released earlier Friday, DeKalb County Coroner Rusty Miller said five students, not six, were killed in the rampage, in addition to the gunman. Miller said the higher victim total was the result of confusion over the fate of a patient taken to another county for treatment. "There was a miscommunication," Miller said. In Florida, Polk County sheriff's officials said they were asked to notify the suspect's father - Robert Kazmierczak of Lakeland, Fla. - of his son's death. They said the elder Kazmierczak was not at home to avoid the media. The motive of the killer, who graduated from NIU in 2006 but was a student there as recently as last year, was still not known. Grady said Kazmierczak was an "outstanding" student while at NIU and authorities were still trying to determine why he would kill. There was no known suicide note. "We were dealing with a disturbed individual who intended to do harm on this campus," NIU President John Peters said. Witnesses said the gunman, dressed in black and wearing a stocking cap, emerged from behind a screen on the stage of 200-seat Cole Hall and opened fire just as the class was about to end around 3 p.m. Officials said 162 students were registered for the class but it was unknown how many were there Thursday. Allyse Jerome, 19, a sophomore from Schaumburg, said the gunman burst through a stage door and pulled out a gun. "Honestly, at first everyone thought it was a joke," Jerome said. Everyone hit the floor, she said. Then she got up and ran, but tripped. She said she felt like "an open target." "He could've decided to get me," Jerome said. "I thought for sure he was gonna get me." John Giovanni, 20, of Des Plaines said the gunman calmly fired at the greatest concentration of students. "He was shooting from the hip. He was just shooting," said Giovanni, who turned and ran so fast that he lost a shoe. "I was running but I was hurtling over people in the fetal position." Peters said four people died at the scene, including three students and the gunman. The others died at hospitals. The teacher, a graduate student, was wounded but was expected to recover. DeKalb County Coroner Dennis J. Miller released the identities of four victims: Daniel Parmenter, 20, of Westchester; Catalina Garcia, 20, of Cicero; Ryanne Mace, 19, of Carpentersville; and Julianna Gehant, 32, of Meridan. Another victim, Gayle Dubowski, a 20-year-old sophomore from Carol Stream, died at a Rockford hospital, Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia said. The killer had been a graduate student in sociology at Northern Illinois as recently as spring 2007, Peters said. He also said the suspect had no record of police contact or an arrest record while attending Northern Illinois, a campus with 25,000 students about 65 miles west of Chicago. The gunman was a student at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Chancellor Richard Herman said. Lauren Carr said she was sitting in the third row when she saw the shooter walk through a door on the right-hand side of the stage, pointing a gun straight ahead. "I personally Army-crawled halfway up the aisle," said Carr, a 20-year-old sophomore. "I said I could get up and run or I could die here." She said a student in front of her was bleeding, "but he just kept running." "I heard this girl scream, 'Run, he's reloading the gun!'" More than a hundred students cried and hugged as they gathered outside the Phi Kappa Alpha house early Friday to remember Parmenter, the 20-year-old sophomore from Elmhurst, who was one of those killed. The campus was closed on Friday. Students were urged to call their parents and were offered counseling at any residence hall, according to the school Web site. The school was closed for one day during final exam week in December after campus police found threats, including racial slurs and references to shootings earlier in the year at Virginia Tech, scrawled on a bathroom wall in a dormitory. Police determined after an investigation that there was no imminent threat and the campus was reopened. It's the easiest way I've found to get the point across to people without getting into an argument. Let people look at the data themselves from a source they can't degrade because it comes from some "conspiracy theorist". The Physician's Desk Reference is a standard reference book which can be found in virtually any Physician's office. It is the one stop reference bible of pharmacology. Etymologies can be very instructive. Anytime you look up a word the etymology should be the last thing you look at before you call it done. If a dictionary doesn't list the etymology it is incomplete. I can't cite a specific reference for 100% correlation between Psych Drugs and berserker killers but everyone I have looked into has had it as a common denominator. There seems to be a great deal of too much not enough curiosity of this fact by the media and the FDA.

Join the Ron Paul Revolution There have been two similar type shooting incidents that may not have involved drugs, one is the recent city hall shooting and of course Carl Drega. Both of those are believed to be motivated by an overdose of government manhandling. Basically an act of violent revolution. But yes, pharmacide is the usual motive for this type thing. Won't stop them from blaming the legally purchased guns though.

True, but a motive is apparent in these cases. With the berserkers, in addition to the Psych Drug link, there is no apparent motive for the berserker attacks. So, you go back to the common denominator of the Psych Drugs. However, I have to wonder whether Drega, or Charles Lee Thornton, was on one of these drugs. I have not seen any report one way or the other. The Newsghouls and the anti-gun nuts always try to focus attention away from the cause to the choice of tools. Of course they never saying anything comparable about knifings or bludgeonings, nor the abnormally high suicide rate among those on Psych Drugs/SSRI's.

At the airport a while back I was bored so I picked up a copy of Newsweek or Time or one of those rags. I couldn't believe that literally half the magazine contained ads for pharmaceuticals. Even some of the articles were subtly pimping Big Pharma.

I suspect if you dug back through the interlocking directorates you would find that major holders of pharma are also major holders in Slime and Newspeak. As well since that is the lion's share of their, very expensive, ad revenue they wouldn't have a financial motive would they? I have looked at some of the Pharma ads which show happy happy people taking their Soma. You are supposed to taper off many of these drugs. Even if I bought into the idea that these drugs are harmful themselves, stopping them cold turkey is not a good idea.
I won't argue the point as the data speaks for itself. Yes, you are supposed to taper off, but why is that? Because the side effects of the drug withdrawls are so severe that they can incite psychoses, suicides, and berserker rages. However, not all of the SSRI berserkers were going off the drugs - some were still actively on them - like the Indian kid who went berserk last year, he had the maximum adult dose of Prozac as his prescription, or Joseph Westbecker (who inspired the term "going Postal") who had a high level of Prozac in his system at the time he went psychotic killing 7 in the Kansas City Post Office. I am collecting and reporting data. The data speaks for itself. Britain did not ban the prescription of anti-depressants to teens because they were having "too good of an affect" and that the high suicide rate was a desirable side effect. In one major study a sugar pill had a higher positive response rate. The FDA despite attempts to sidestep the issue did not put a "Suicide Warning" on anti-depressants because they are not in cahoots with the drug companies. Pissed off parents of dead kids and loved ones showed up at the hearings and forced them to acknowledge the facts. Whether you wish to accept it or not the data is still there and it speaks volumes without my added commentary.

Another common thread tying the SSRI/Psych Medication killers together - they "go off" for no apparent motivation or reason. Yet they peddle the crap as if they were skittles, and actually encourage people to go on them by incessant adverstising for any and all psychological ailments, ranging from "social anxiety disorder" to "feelings of unhappiness". It's part of the reason people are so f'ing confused these days, half them are on some sort of psyche drug.
It is part of incapacitating and making "docile" the slaves. Cud chewers don't revolt. Now take your "Soma" and relax. Everything is fine - just fade off into that comforting haze and all your troubles will disappear - you won't even notice it when the next berserker blows the brains out of the person next to you.

Certainly it could be looked at as a "triggering" event. Of course we don't know for sure since not all of these berserker killers have that as a common element; it is a common enough occurrence in that age group though. Although there is likely some event with each of them that "triggered" them. Each was either on, or in withdrawls, from some form of psychotropic medication - Prozac the most common but then it is also the most proscribed. My thoughts are drifting back to the Atlanta Day Trader that went on one of these killing sprees, also on Prozac, a couple of years ago - his trigger seems to have been heavy unsustainable losses. Of course being legally stoned on a brain chemistry altering chemical probably didn't help his judgement in the Market a lot.
