PHOENIX (AP) - Rep. John Shadegg, who announced earlier this week that he wouldn't seek an eighth term, may be reconsidering his decision to retire, a newspaper reported Thursday.

The East Valley Tribune said Shadegg, 58, has wavered after learning that more than half of the Republicans in the House signed a letter urging him to stay.

"I think I have an obligation to take a look at it and consider it," Shadegg told the Tribune. "If it's 138 members, if it really is 138 members, then I've got a duty to at least look at it and give their request fair consideration."

Shadegg was flying to Phoenix on Thursday night and was not immediately available for comment, his Washington office told The Associated Press.

The Tribune said the Shadegg letter - written and circulated by Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana and Reps. Jeb Hensarling of Texas and Peter Hoekstra - states, in part: "Your intellectual consistency in defense of the Constitution and passionate articulation of conservative principles is in need now more than ever."

Shadegg announced Monday that he wouldn't seek re-election, becoming the 29th House Republican in the past 13 months to either leave office or decline to seek re-election.

Hmmm, just have to ask, 'where have y'all been up til now in discussing, let alone defending, the Constitution, and what about them 'conservative principles'?

Exactly how many of y'all have been voting no on all this gawd-awful legislation that has been passed all these past years?

Shadegg tried for years to get the Enumerated Powers Act legislated into being--an act which would have at least required the congresscowards to cite article and section of the Constitution from which they believe the authority for such legislation resided.

You have a real knack for asking the kind of questions that would find you seated in the back with Helen....

The sycophants who play make believe press corps work for the corporations, that own the companies, that make the war materiel, that kill the kids and poison the Earth, and Jeff Gannon just exaggerated what they actually do in White House press briefings-they ask soft ball questions and jealously guard their credentials, because their bosses don't want honest reporting, and reporters don't want to bungle things and lose their coveted seats on Air Force One.

So, Shadegg is a reassurance, a token rep that they point to as a conservo when pressured by folks who are in imminent danger of waking up.

Sort of falls in line with what we were discussing yesterday.

Seems like when the proverbial sh*t is about to hit the fan, a whole bunch of republocraps start remembering the Constitution, or conservative principles and values.

I haven't checked to see how many of these signers (whoever they are) have endorsed the one who practices what he preaches. Hopefully, the names will come out so we can see the hypocrits for what they are...I sure won't have a problem in writing to each one of them to remind them of that little factoid!

Yep, I remember when Shadegg came in. IIRC, he was a Gingrich 'conservative' in the '94 sweep. I haven't kept up with him, or any of the others in while, but it sure does seem like they see a D-Tsunami approaching and are heading for higher ground. Pusillanimous is a real neat definition for these soon to be lobbyists.

I think you're right about the tsunami. There have been a whole bunch who have decided 'not to run'--guess they didn't want their asses handed to them--having apparently seen the writing on the wall, or was it their own internal polling tht showed how badly their asses would get kicked come November.

Shadegg is one who was asking serious, pertinent questions regarding the FLEER (sp) 'stuff' as it regards the murdering that went on at Waco.

Now I recall. I thought he and the others were actually going to accomplish something with those hearings.

Stop right there. If 138 house members want him to stay claiming he does that, then he ain't doin' it.

It's that simple.

I suspect he just threw a figure out there.......maybe a hopeful figure??????

I threw away all my old New American magazines; probably shoulda kept them inasmuch as they had voting records on something like 10 key issues each session or quarter session.

I rather enjoyed their selections and their comments and their rankings. I can't remember Shadegg specifically in those ratings.

Him I recall from the Waco hearings and having worked with his office over trying to get the Enumerated Powers Act passed. As would be expected, each session of congress, there would be less and less co-sponsors. Seems like the first go round there was over 100 co=sponsors, then it dropped to perhaps 70; and then down to 30 or so.

This was while I was still at tos1, and working with Operation America to try to get the posters at the site to get involved with some of the legislative issues. As with most other things of that nature, the keyboard cowboys opted to pick cotton out of their navels or to star gaze or whatever the nitwits did to feel important--maybe stand alongside some obscure roadway and hold a sign that says 'impeach ___________', even though the guy was out of office!

Thank you Ma'am.

As you know the infra red recording in the circling chopper clearly revealed heat signatures from hot propellant gases from sub machine gun fire. There were at least two shooters lying in the grass (in the back away from the press) shooting at persons who attempted to flee the burning building. We were left to conclude that the order had been given to minimize survivors to teach America a lesson-if you kill govt agents (who open fire first without provocation) then all must die including children and pets.

Otherwise Americans may start to shed the learned helplessness and the conditioned futility which helps a few million govt gun goons rule over a nation of 80 million+ well armed citizens.

This first year psychology lesson is mandatory for tyrants. They must reinforce the fear with violence, preferably on live TV, if possible. (they wouldn't break in to the SUPER BOWL or national bowling championship, but, any other time is fine)

The real damning evidence of gov't murder at Waco is in the autopsy reports:

www.public-action.com/Sky...coMuseum/death/death.html

Not for the squeemish.

Most of the victims were murdered by the feds long before the fires. Carol Valentine does a good job of connecting dots.
