Editorial See other Editorial Articles Title: Albert Schweitzer - saint, racist - or both Few names from the 20th century conjure up such mythic images of superhuman achievement and even saintliness. Much like your Savant, he was a polymath, scientist, philosopher and gifted musician. But without my sporting gifts – you can't have everything, I suppose. A qualified doctor, in 1913, at the age of 38, he departed for French Equatorial Africa to create and lead a hospital there. He spent most of the next four decades of his life there (his family were back in Europe) and he died there 1965. During this time he cared for individual patients, constructed an ever-expanding array of hospital buildings, continued his philosophical and theological writings by kerosene lantern late at night, and rejuvenating his spirit and the spirits of those around him by playing his beloved Bach on the piano late into the African night. Honoured with the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize, he dedicated much of the last decade of his life to campaigning for the abolition of all nuclear weapons, which Schweitzer considered humanity's most egregious insult to Reverence for Life. When he died, statesmen, scientists, musicians, and ordinary citizens throughout the world mourned the passing of one of their great heroes. But hark! All is not well! Some revisionists now see him as, oh my God – how can I say this? – as a racist! And he was. After 40 years ministering to Africans, (unlike those prancing, preening prats Bob Geldof and Bono, who see African poverty only in terms of photo-ops) he ruefully wrote the following: "I have given my life to try to bring unto them the advantages which our civilisation must offer, but I have become well aware that we must retain this status; white, the superior, and they the inferior; for whenever a white man seeks to live among them as their equal, they will either destroy him or devour him, and they will destroy all his work; and so for any existing relationship or for any benefit to this people let white men from anywhere in the world who would come to help Africa remember that you must continually retain this status; you the master, and they the inferior, like children that you would help or teach. Never fraternise with them as equals, never accept them as your social equals ; or they will devour you; they will destroy you."- (From his 1961 book, From My African Notebook.) Ouch!! There goes the voice of experience. But he’s broken the current flavour of the month taboo. The reaction neatly illustrates the totalitarian PC dispensation we now operate under. The reaction is denigration, ignoring the bad bits, patronizing indulgence, or plain denial. One British academic says ‘we can forgive him [for his racism] because of his other good works’. Well, that's bloody good of you, you sanctimonious prat! And if you want to see the extent to which commentators ignore the bad bits, try to find the above quotation. You’ll struggle. Then there’s the outright denial. Take this Lachlan Forrow M.D. “Note on translation: Some of the most troubling and even offensive passages in Schweitzer's writings as they have appeared in English reflect problems or even frank errors in translation, rather than Schweitzer's own thoughts. Perhaps the most extreme in this regard are references by Dr. Schweitzer to Africans as "savages". In fact, although Schweitzer used several different German words to refer to his African neighbors, none of those would be translated as "savage" today, but rather as "black" or "native" or "primitive". The translation by Mrs. C.E.B. Russell of this book into English was published in 1939, and her use of the word "savage" is as mistaken and regrettable as it is offensive.” Now Lachlan, me oul’ mate, ich spreche und lese Deutch, and I've taken the trouble to check out the original German. One of the words Schweitzer uses is Wildheit. This means savagery, wild passion, primitiveness. The word for black is schwartz – totally different, Lachlan, my boy. This is a long post, but it has considerable significance. First it shows that what you say in this mad PC world is more important than what you do. No amount of good works will compensate for uttering unpalatable truths. Truths, I emphasise. Second, it turns a blinding spotlight on Africans and their cultures. Everything he says is, or should be by now blindingly obvious to the rest of us. Third, not only should we stop these people flooding into the country, we should actively work to repatriate them. Deport illegals, and pay the others to go back. Fourth, we should have had a bit of understanding for the dilemma of South Africa's whites. But it's too late now, for them if not for us.

Do-gooders. Sheesh. Definitely not a saint. The rest of that paragraph is absolutely right, assuming you're into that imperial do-gooder thing. we should actively work to repatriate them. Deport illegals, and pay the others to go back. It's been tried, the paying bit, in America. Voluntary methods will not work, and whitey doesn't have the stomach for force of this kind any more. And besides, assuming you do achieve separation, what's to stop the whole dynamic starting up again? Whites have few scruples about using non-whites against other whites, and it is mostly white people hiring illegals; darkie is attracted to the societies whitey creates. Maybe, maybe, Ireland could pull it off, if it has few enough darkies. It'd help though if Gaelic wasn't a practically dead language. If whites won't separate, one way or another, then they should forthrightly (rather than hypocritically, as they have for some time) rule. Found a benevolent (by white standards, of course) white imperium. Probably won't be possible though until leftist whites vanish by failing to breed and exposing themselves to darkie violence.
