McClintock eyes Doolittle seat

By Peter Hecht - phecht@sacbee.com

State Sen. Tom McClintock said today that he is "seriously" considering running for the 4th Congressional District seat of Rep. John Doolittle, who is resigning at the end of his term.

"Obviously, it is a matter I take very seriously," said McClintock, confirming he is looking at entering the race. He added: "I'll have more to say about this in the future. But at the moment, I'm simply listening to people in the district."

In an interview at the state Capitol, McClintock said he is uncertain when he will decide, but said it won't be this week. The Republican primary field already includes former Rep. Doug Ose, former state lawmaker Rico Oller and Air Force reservist Eric Egland.

McClintock, a longtime lawmaker from Thousand Oaks and a former gubernatorial candidate, is one of the state's best known conservatives. A recent poll showed him with strong support in the district.

Ose campaign consultant Richard Temple said the former three-term representative from the Sacramento region's 3rd Congressional District has no intention of stepping aside if McClintock enters the field. Ose has already put out a television advertisement and campaign mailers.

"He's still in and he's still moving and that hasn't changed," Temple said.

mcclintock endorses socialists, warmongers and gun-grabbers. he's a phony and a sellout, and he deserves to lose. Let him get a real job for the first time in his life instead of living off the govt teat.

4um: Senator Tom McClintock: "I'm not sure if Ron Paul is presidential Timber"

With the neocon CFR actor Fred out of the race, I wrote a follow up letter to McClintock, entitled An Open Letter To Senator Tom McClintock I e-mailed it to The Senator both at his office and to his website, carepublic.com ; and posted it on his blog, HERE. . On his blog, you will see many people urging Tom to endorse Ron Paul, since he hinted at that possibility last week to the L.A. Times.

On 1/28/08 while visiting McClintock's website I saw an announcement that he would be live on KOGO radio (600AM San Diego) at 5PM!. I Immediately got on the line and I questioned Tom McClintock on Ron Paul's candidacy. Here is the transcript of that call. Audio of this is at minute 16:45 HERE.

Call in to KOGO 600AM, Monday, January 28, 2008, ~5:24PM

Roger Hedgecock: Tom McClintock, let's take a call from Martin, on a cell phone. Hi Martin.

Martin: Hi Tom, Hi Roger. Hey Tom, a lot of people are eagerly awaiting to see if you're going to endorse Congressman Raul for president; or, do you have another favorite??

Tom McClintock:Well, my favorite was Fred Thompson, and you know what happened to him. Umm, I've been saying all along, I'm looking for, a presidential, uh, uh, candidate who I can trust to respect our Constitution, and defend our borders, and, reduce the burdons of government, uh, on our people. And I've got reservations about all of the, uh, candidates Republican and Democrat. I just got my ballot delivered to me today, I'm still not sure how I'm gonna cast that vote. Um, uh.. Ron Paul...uh, in fact, remember, uh, uh, Roger, that when I guest hosted for you that day, uh, Ron Paul was one of our guests.

Roger: Yep.

McClintock: Um, and, my my my read of him is, he is raising some awfully important questions that need to be raised; and he's got a very enthusiastic group of people behind him. And a very eclectic group spanning the entire political spectrum, who are responding to a basic message, and that is, 'we want our Constitution back', we want it all back. Uh, I'm not sure that Ron Paul is presidential timber. But I do believe he is raising some very important issues that are going to, uh, have to be addressed, uh, during the upcoming presidential campaign in the fall.

Roger: All right. Tom McClintock, I've got to run, uh I appreciate the opportunity...

MESSAGE FROM RON

February 18, 2008

The DC neocons think their old dream is about to come true. They think they can defeat me in the Republican congressional primary in Texas on March 4th.

And you know what? They may be right. My opponent, who describes himself as a traditional conservative, is a dedicated servitor of all the special interests who have given us the disaster of recent years, from unconstitutional wars to a looming recession, from huge deficits to massive new welfare programs. A Republican operative allied with the worst forces in DC recently said: "Give what you can [to Ron Paul's opponent]. Ron Paul is running scared -- using his Presidential campaign's donors' money to subsidize a desperate last-minute attempt to save his Congressional seat." That is a lie, of course. It is illegal to use presidential campaign donations in my congressional race. The congressional campaign has to stand on its own.

But so far, we have raised only about a third of what a well-funded effort would need. In my 10 terms in Congress, I have not only been able to serve my constituents, and help them, for example, negotiate federal red-tape. I have also been able to defend our principles of less spending, lower taxes, no inflation, and strict adherence to the Constitution.

Some people in DC laugh at the idea that I should obey my oath of office, and ask first of any proposed legislation, is it constitutional? But I know that you share my support for the vision of the framers. My friend Congressmen Wayne Gilchrest (R-Maryland) was just defeated in his primary election by a neocon fraud similar to the one I face. My friend Walter Jones (R-North Carolina) is under heavy pressure as well. People like our hand-picked opponents will do anything to gain and keep power. They represent everything that is wrong with DC. If I am defeated in the upcoming congressional primary, our ideas will be held to have been defeated as well.

It will be proclaimed from the rooftops in DC that such "ridiculous and outmoded notions" as the free market, sound money, personal liberty, limited government, and a pro-American foreign policy are through. I am determined not to let this happen. All that you and I believe in is far too important to the future of our country, and to everyone and everything we love, to let the neocons dance on its grave. Please, help me stop the lies, the distortions, the pressure groups, the special interests that benefit from DC rip-offs. There is still time to run radio and tv ads, to set up phone banks, to get out the vote. But unless you help, my reelection to Congress may be in jeopardy.

Please help me return to Congress to fight for the people of my district, and for the ideas that can save our country from the path to trouble we are now on. I hesitated to ask you, since you have already done so much. But my wife Carol said, "When you need help, you ask your best friends." So I do ask you, to hold out your hand in support. Please give today http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com, as generously and as quickly as you can.

Sincerely, Ron

McClintock could probably win Doolittle's old congressional seat.
