Romans 13 and “Clergy Response Teams”

Pastors across the country have been called on by the Department of HomelandSecurity to join “Clergy Response Teams” in order to placate and control the people of America in the event of local or national emergencies. Jeff Ferrell, a reporter for KSLA in Shreveport, claimed that “For the clergy team, one of the biggest tools that they will have in helping calm the public down or to obey the law is the bible itself, specifically Romans 13.” This idea was affirmed in the report by Dr Durell Turberville who was quoted as saying, "because the government is established by the Lord, you know. And, that's what we believe in the Christian faith. That's what's stated in the scripture."...

Today, when any Christian attempts to question the authority or right of government to limit the choices or liberties of the people they commonly hear pastors and other Christians reciting Romans 13. Unfortunately these pastors and their followers are under a strong delusion that has crept into the thinking of modern Christians due to false information. The truth that will set them free from that delusion is easy enough to expose. We need to examine only one word of the original Greek text in order to turn the world upside down.

Word translations are so inconsistent it's unbelievable that people see this as the "inerrant word of God". Words have meanings and they shift the meanings so it says what they want it to say.

Gods' truth is in the Bible, but you surely have to dig for it, it is not just handed to anyone on a silver platter.

I have found that in order to get to the truth of scripture (truth comes in layers), you have to go beyond the translated words to see how the very same words are translated and used in other parts of scripture. Even then, you have to work and pray to understand it. It doesnt just happen. Those that translated scripture had an agenda, just like the people that will use the faulty translation of Rom 13 have an agenda. That is the conclusion I came to anyway. YMMV and all is JMO.

This writer makes an excellent point. He is right.

Not that I planned to give a tinkers damn what the local preacher says anyway... They will be among the first to betray us, all the time thinking they are doing God a favor.

I have found that in order to get to the truth of scripture (truth comes in layers), you have to go beyond the translated words to see how the very same words are translated and used in other parts of scripture. Even then, you have to work and pray to understand it.

You have hit the essense of the Bible. This is why I have 11 different translations; to check one against another.

But it all comes down to the prayer, and work, as in actually reading and studying. Which leaves most people out.

LOL! And the thought of listening to 'modern' preachers! Perish the thought!!
