The Alert: In a backroom deal just prior to the Christmas break, Congress passed the omnibus Appropriations bill which included the Hutchison Amendment that gutted the Secure Fence Act. Her amendment essentially guaranteed that the DHS didn't have to build the fence! For more click here. After Grassfire broke the "Secure Fence Hoax", key members of Congress took action in an effort to "undo" what the Hutchison amendment did, by restoring deadlines and double fence mandate for the entire 854 miles of border. Two bills have already been introduced that Grassfire is supporting. Each of these bills demand Congress make good on their original promise to build the border fence: H.R. 4987-Fence By Date Certain Act (Jones R-NC) H.R. 5124-Reinstatement of the Secure Fence Act of 2008 (Hunter R-CA) The Action: Grassfire finds the actions to undo the Secure Fence Act reprehensible. In response, we've launched a national petition demanding Congress build the border fence as originally promised! Grassfire is working closely with both Congressional offices to touting the merit of these bills on Capitol Hill and with grassroots Americans. Grassfire is aggressively moving to rally 200,000 citizen petitions to be presented to members of Congress who are taking a leadership role in securing our borders. BREAKING NEWS: Grassfire will be presenting ALL petitions at a Capitol Hill press event for the Jones legislation on Thursday, April 17. Help us reach our goal of 200,000 petitions by alerting your friends and urging them to sign as well! The "Build The Border Fence As Promised" petition states: I am appalled that Congress took action to undo the Secure Fence Act. I find the actions of those involved reprehensible, and demand the following: As the San Diego fence has proved, border fences do work. That's why I am calling on leadership to put the will of the people first and take the necessary steps to protect our borders from invasion--first by undoing the damage of the Hutchison Amendment and then by building the border fence as originally promised. Build the Border Fence as Promised!
As a concerned citizen, I am signing this petition calling on Congress and the President to reinstate and fully fund the original mandate of the Secure Fence Act.

What morons. And what is next? Continue the fence along the gulf coast? Then, up the California beaches? How about Florida.... gonna fence Florida in also? Stop those pesky Cubans, right? And don't forget Canada..... LOTS of illegals come across the Canadian border, so maybe that should be planned now.......

Actually I'm in favor of the fence.
And why would that be? Fences work to keep animals/people in; they do not work well keeping things out; never have, and never will. There have been a number of posts lately in 4um about how, through the enforcement of laws and limiting of benefits, many of the so-called illegals are going home because they no longer have work/free ride. Of course, that means that the 'government' will be increasing the numbers of so-called legal, i.e., green card, aliens, so what is the difference? So please tell me, with the involvement of the CIA and such in the drug trade, and their protection of the tracficars on the border, how does the fence figure in? And I was serious about the above, once the fence is up, what do you do about all of the boats sailing around the end of the fence?!

I'm in favor of bend fold and mutilating the fence if it is ever built. The idea is an obscenity.
