he doesn't have to because he knows he can get away with murder. he pulled off stealing two elections and he's accountable only to his puppermasters.

46% might not be so bad. Bush gave us the same old spew we've heard from day one. Nothing new or contraversial. The number might indicate that more than half the people thought it was total bullshit and 46% thought it was the same crap they always hear. It really depends on the exact wording of the question.

From AmericaBlog:

ABC's Terry Moran just reported that the only time Bush got applause was in the middle of his speech when a White House advance team member started clapping all on their own in order to cajole the soldiers into clapping, which they dutifully did.

So even the applause was fake.

The media has been on board cheerleading Bush's big "save my approval ratings" speech all day. CNN has been pounding the table on all the positive developments in Iraq. Not hearing much about the big Chinook that went down in Afghanistan today though, and the story of all the female marines that were killed over the weekend was dropped like a hot potato. The situation is even worse than we think it is and the nitwit is up there taking bows for the progress. Maybe we are doomed.

Bush does appear to be under control. Never has a President changed so much between his 1st election and his actions in office. Recently, Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton conducted themselves in office as the public expected their behavior matched their campaign rhetoric, for the most part.

Then we have Bush- a lifelong moderate conservative in his father's vein. A lifetime of political beliefs cannot be changed at his age- and certainly not so many in such a short period of time.

Bush was a conservative, got into office and became a Marxist, so much so that he even attacks the middle class. Bush was an isolationist, opposed to the Kosovo 'war' for example, then became an interventionist committed to building an American Empire. Bush favored a border with Mexico as gov of Texas and increased funding for BP, then as Pres calls for open borders, basically an end to US sovereignty with his extreme globalism, and fights to cut funding for BP- or at least reduce it to less than Congress suggested.

As a conservative, Bush must have believed in the philosophy of the founding fathers regarding the individual. But when he gets into office, he does all he can to advance a police state and take away rights individuals have had in the US for 100's of years.

That's just for starters. The question is How could Bush change his positions on so many issues this late in his life? Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton didn't.

I'm completely baffled by Bush's behavior in the last few years. The idea that he is following orders received via transmitter, or that he is parroting rhetoric he is told via transmitter, almost sounds possible at this point.

Not hearing much about the big Chinook that went down in Afghanistan today though,

Maybe we are doomed.

The latest I heard on that Chinook was that the Taliban was taking credit for it falling out of the sky. The CNN reporter added that "Of course we've heard no corroboration of that from the Pentagon," as if the Pentagon would say, "Yeah, they shot it down," or something. There's a lot of circumstantial and grudging info from the Pentagon that things aren't all that peachy in Afghanistan.

I think doomed is too strong a word. I'd say that, barring a huge increase in troop levels (and in my mind it's around 250-400K more needed to really pacify Iraq) we'll need to leave Iraq, either in orderly fashion, (think Soviets from Afghanistan, 1989) or less than orderly fashion (think Saigon, 1975). Despite all the rhetoric, I think there is very little reason to believe that they really hate us for our freedoms. A pull back and a resumption of a George Washington type of policy (or a policy like William Lind has posited, a detachment from places of disorder) will cause the attacks against us to virtually cease (I think there's still possibility of attacks here, but the incentive would be largely removed.) Because they hate us because we're over there, once our presence is gone, they could go back to warring amongst themselves, like has happened since Christ was a corporal.

If our commanders on the ground say we need more troops, I will send them. But our commanders tell me they have the number of troops they need to do their job.

Maybe because when you fire the commanders like Gen. Shinseki who say more troops are needed, the rest of the commanders get the message.

LBJ used to refuse Westmoreland's troop requests, then go on TV and say he was providing everything the military requested.

Just ask the Axis, he knows everything.
