April-dated fed fund futures contracts rose 11 cents to 97.98 -- implying a 90% chance that the Fed will slash its base rate to 2%. End of Story

Commentary - 75 BP were the expected as of a few hours ago. This means the Fed is Damned Concerned of a economic melt down SOON.

Frank Barbera was predicting last week that the SP500 will lose about 60% of its value before 2010, dropping to 500 in the process. My guess was a bottom around 800 in about the same time-frame. I am just looking at moving averages and judging sentiment, and one broad index I follow (Wilshire 4500) is down hard on the 50-month MA and pushing down on the lower 20-month Bollinger band. I do not see the sentiment needed to cut back to the other side of the band. In view of all this, it appears the fed is over-reacting to the inevitable.
