This doesn't really sound like 'dumping the racist KooK under the bus' to me.

Given my background, my politics, and my professed values and ideals, there will no doubt be those for whom my statements of condemnation are not enough. Why associate myself with Reverend Wright in the first place, they may ask? Why not join another church? And I confess that if all that I knew of Reverend Wright were the snippets of those sermons that have run in an endless loop on the television and You Tube, or if Trinity United Church of Christ conformed to the caricatures being peddled by some commentators, there is no doubt that I would react in much the same way

But the truth is, that isn't all that I know of the man. The man I met more than twenty years ago is a man who helped introduce me to my Christian faith, a man who spoke to me about our obligations to love one another; to care for the sick and lift up the poor. He is a man who served his country as a U.S. Marine; who has studied and lectured at some of the finest universities and seminaries in the country, and who for over thirty years led a church that serves the community by doing God's work here on Earth - by housing the homeless, ministering to the needy, providing day care services and scholarships and prison ministries, and reaching out to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.

And this helps explain, perhaps, my relationship with Reverend Wright. As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me. He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children. Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect. He contains within him the contradictions - the good and the bad - of the community that he has served diligently for so many years.

I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

Obama's speech.

Is that what you call dumping somebody under a bus?

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

You must not have read or heard the speech, if you can ask that.

Stop dodging Ari...

Was there anything in that speech that you did not know??? Was there something you learned????

It was just another slick political speech of expediency and you took it hook line and sinker. Admit it.

Now you are so enthralled you will become a Obama cheerleader? Damn.

When you read the speech, do take note of how he begins and ends the speech with references to the Constitution. When is the last time you heard a candidate for the presidency do that?

(I must confess that on this you are right: I was already aware of Obama's respect for the Constitution. I have heard him say in previous speeches that he wants the President to abide by the Constitution.)

Okay Ari the dodger.

You and others were hoodwinked and cannot bring yourself to admit it.

Obama shed, or did he, the good Reverend, LONG after the fact. That just makes Ari all warm and fuzzy inside.

Tonight the Reverend and Obama will share a good yuk on how they slickered Ari and the other naive masses.

I learned a long time ago, and was slickered by politicians, just as you have been but refuse to admit. He wants your white male vote Ari, say anything to get it and he succeeeded.

I agreed with him too.

The way Obama dumped him under the bus was to characterize Wright's statements as being the emotional reaction which blacks understandably feel because of the racism that they've been subjected to. Obama painted Wright as a good man who suffers from the racism which not only blacks but all good people in America, from his white grandmother who Obama said made bigoted remarks, to middle-class people who lose a promotion that they blame on affirmative action, have been victimized by.

So Obama didn't show the respect to Wright (or anyone else who thinks the same about US foreign policy) to engage the substance of his ideas. Obama tried to ascribe everything to the tragic effects of racism, like the way spicy foods can cause a nightmare.

I've already said too much.

Just before his speech, Fox News was making fun of him.

Yes, they are awaiting instructions (which will be extracts taken out of context).
