Title: Cheney On Two-Thirds Of The American Public Opposing The Iraq War: ‘So?’

This morning, on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion, ABC’s Good Morning America aired an interview with Vice President Cheney on the war. During the segment, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war:

CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success.

RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting.

CHENEY: So?

RADDATZ So? You don’t care what the American people think?

CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.

Watch it here; thinkprogress.org/2008/03/19/cheney-poll-iraq/

This opposition to the war is not a “fluctuation” in public opinion. The American public has steadily turned against the war since the 2003 invasion. According to a new CNN poll, just 36 percent of the American public believes that “the situation in Iraq was worth going to war over — down from 68 percent in March 2003, when the war began.”

Even though he doesn’t care what the American public wants, Cheney still thinks he is able — and entitled — to speak for the American public. Last month, Cheney declared, “The American people will not support a policy of retreat.” If Cheney were actually listening to the “American people,” he would know that 61 percent actually supports the redeployment of U.S. troops.

There are 103 readr's comments to Cheney's words.

So much for a republic or a democracy.

We have a regal empire ruling America, backed by a vicious police judicial state.

Good question. I know The Smirking Chimp political forum used that imagery of Bush at the start of the most illegitimate of power grabs of modern times when the SCOTUS legitimated the start of this administration.

It is just fair to say he's always been a retarded chimp and always will be one until he is hopefully put to death after a fair trial at the Hague.

There have been countless tyrants who care less what the people think. The normal reaction is the people care less about them, and, well, term limits are usually facilitated.

Transcript of the closed "trial" of Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu
"In the same way he refused to hold a dialogue with the people, now he also refuses to speak with us. He always claimed to act and speak on behalf of the people, to be a beloved son of the people, but he only tyrannized the people all the time. ..Esteemed chairman of the court, today we have to pass a verdict on the defendants Nicolae Ceausescu and Elena Ceausescu who have committed the following offenses: Crimes against the people. They carried out acts that are incompatible with human dignity and social thinking; they acted in a despotic and criminal way; they destroyed the people whose leaders they claimed to be. Because of the crimes they committed against the people, I plead, on behalf of the victims of these two tyrants, for the death sentence for the two defendants...Why did you ruin the country so much: Why did you export everything?..Let us now talk about the accounts in Switzerland, Mr. Ceausescu. What about the accounts? ..You have never been able to hold a dialogue with the people. You were not used to talking to the people. You held monologues and the people had to applaud, like in the rituals of tribal people. And today you are acting in the same megalomaniac way...So far, they have always claimed that we have built this country, we have paid our debts, but with this they bled the country to death and have hoarded enough money to ensure their escape. You should have stayed in Iran where you had flown to...Esteemed Mr. Chairman, I have been one of those who, as a lawyer, would have liked to oppose the death sentence, because it is inhuman. But we are not talking about people. I would not call for the death sentence, but it would be incomprehensible for the Romanian people to have to go on suffering this great misery and not to have it ended by sentencing the two Ceausescus to death. The crimes against the people grew year by year. They were only busy enslaving the people and building up an apparatus of power. They were not really interested in the people.

The language of tyranny is universal ...power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

And the men who loan money to governments, so called, for the purpose of enabling the latter to rob, enslave, and murder their people, are among the greatest villains that the world has ever seen. And they as much deserve to be hunted and killed (if they cannot otherwise be got rid of) as any slave traders, robbers, or pirates that ever lived. ... Lysander Spooner

These perps are no more capable of operating as free men without hurting or killing through surrogates anymore then Charles Manson can. This is why that nut case is still in the pen in Cali.

So we must do what needs to be done to take people like Cheney off the street. However long it takes, the war crimes of these people must be adjudicated in an international law court of record, and these people must be made accountable for their actions.

Their crimes are not minor ones, and their sentences when handed down better reflect that. If Cheney came to Eugene, Oregon we would see a riot. There is much anger here waiting for the right spark.

I know they pay close attention to that as Cheney boy would not come closer then twenty miles to visit smaller Junction City this last sham of a POTUS election. They also cleaned up a substantial sized piece of land along the main rail line between Portland and Eugene near the Eugene Airport a year or so ago to off load GHW Bush and his British guest from a train to a plane without having to come within half a stone's throw of an office building full of left wing political action offices at Grower's Market.

So it is not a good thing that snarl here is so arrogant here, and the chimp uses phrases like Republicans must retake the House and keep the White House as it is critical for America.

They scare me, and if they pull something it should not be suffered quietly.

I'd imagine there are many harboring the same ill feelings towards anyone connected to this administration. The people here are too docile to get upset about anything at this point. I don't understand it.

I just sent my AR-15 to Colt for repairs as I discovered a problem with it last week. I expect there will come a day (soon enough) that I'll need it to work properly. I hadn't fired it for 15 years. Everything else is working well and hot to trot.

Serious thought control via the media. I can't figure it any other way. The people are flocking in herds of domestication, fattening for the slaughter.

Good for you. We see something about the way it works: William Buckley defined the word "conservative" and "patriotic" for two generations, stealing the proper meanings. The entire Establishment cooperated. Hush Bimbo just has to connect the dots.
