WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A mysterious friend and adviser to Barack Obama when he was growing up in Hawaii is identified in a new column by Accuracy in Media editor Cliff Kincaid as a member of the old Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA. "Obama's communist connection adds to mounting public concern about a candidate who has come out of virtually nowhere, with a brief U.S. Senate legislative record, to become the Democratic Party frontrunner for the U.S. presidency," Kincaid writes in the column, "Obama's Communist Mentor," posted on the AIM website http://www.aim.org/.

Obama's mentor "Frank" is Frank Marshall Davis, who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just "Frank," without a middle or last name.

Kincaid explains, "The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist front organizations."

AIM recently disclosed that Obama has connections to the Democratic Socialists of America and that he sponsored a "Global Poverty Act" designed to send hundreds of billions of U.S. foreign aid to the rest of the world, in order to meet U.N. demands. The bill has passed the House and a Senate committee and awaits full Senate action.

Cliff Kincaid

Cliff Kincaid is a right-wing writer and activist who has been a longtime critic of the United Nations and other multinational organizations. He is also a writer and editor at Accuracy in Media (AIM), a right-wing media "watchdog" organization. He has received significant support for his work from foundations controlled by right-wing financier Richard Mellon Scaife, who has funded AIM as as well as Kincaid's own organization, America's Survival. America's Survival is dedicated to "educat[ing] the American people and to expos[ing] the influence of global institutions, including an International Criminal Court, on their lives." The organization appears to be run from Kincaid's personal residence.

AIM was founded in 1969 by the late right-wing economist Reed Irvine, and it has served as an incubator for unfounded right-wing allegations and conspiracy theories:

Kincaid on the media

"Journalism is a funny business." [6/9/05]

"It looks like Fox has been used by one of its chief critics to advance his radical environmental agenda. It's a sad day for this once-conservative network." [11/11/05]

"I think that Brit Hume and his hour long evening news program have a conservative tilt. I don't think we can deny that. I don't think that he would deny that." [6/9/05]

Kincaid on homosexuality

"His [Howard Dean's] success will depend on concealing the facts about Dean's homosexual experiment [which purportedly "implemented the homosexual agenda" in Vermont] -- and how he has used young people as sexual guinea pigs." [12/10/03]

"The problem with the [Tucker] Carlson show [on MSNBC] is the format, which places too much emphasis on his guests, including a regular named Rachel Maddow, a radio host on Air America who is described as the first out-of-the-closet lesbian to be named a Rhodes Scholar. She is a lesbian with hair so short that she looks like a man." [8/1/05]

"The Washington Post is emerging as a virtual house organ of the homosexual-rights movement." [7/20/03]

"That's right -- conservative Fox News was a sponsor of the gay media convention, in addition to the Washington Post, New York Times and other Big Media organizations." [7/15/04]

"In the fallout from the Supreme Court's [Lawrence v. Texas] decision upholding homosexual rights, the media failed to note something peculiar -- the so-called 'conservative' Cato Institute had taken the side of the homosexuals." [7/1//2003]

Kincaid on other topics

"The United Nations is one of the most sacred cows in the media." [1/20/05]

"Why join the Armed Forces when you not only have to fight the terrorists but the American media, which is doing their best to make our soldiers out to be human-rights abusers, torturers and killers?" [5/27/05]

"So the case against [Jeff] Gannon boils down to being too pro-Republican, writing stories with a conservative slant, and being linked to conduct, homosexuality, that is accepted and celebrated by those who were going after Gannon in the first place." [2/10/05]

"I think that Faux News has an enormous neocon tilt". I don't think they can deny that. Kristol, Krauthammer, Barnes, Hannitty, etc. ad nauseam. I don't think that they can deny that."
