Cheney regrets 'every casualty' in Iraq

24/03/2008 08:18 JERUSALEM, March 24 (AFP)

US Vice President Dick Cheney on Monday said he regrets every US casualty in Iraq, after the American death toll in the five-year conflict reached 4,000.

"You regret every casualty, every loss. It may have a psychological effect on the public but it's a tragedy that we live in a kind of world where that happens," Cheney said in Israel, the latest stop on a nine-day regional tour.

The death toll of US soldiers in the Iraq conflict reached 4,000 after four troops were killed in a Baghdad bombing.

Come to think of it, I guess that's just a less inflammatory way of saying "So?"

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

WHAT HAPPENED TO "SO?"?

And in the ME he told them that peace would take "painful concessions on both sides."

He's just a fount of wisdom lately. No one ever thought of that before.
