Many Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama supporters are ready to spurn the Democratic party and vote for John McCain in November if their candidate doesn’t win the presidential nomination, according to a new poll out Wednesday.

Among people who identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters, 28 percent said they would vote for McCain if Obama is his opponent, the March 7-22 Gallup Poll Daily election tracking survey found.

The same poll found that 19 percent of Obama supporters would switch sides and cast ballots for McCain if Clinton is the Democratic candidate.

The survey interviewed 6,657 Democratic voters nationwide and had a margin of error of 2 percent.

Gallup analysts note that the results could change by November, by which time Democrats will have made great efforts to unify the party.

Gallup analysts also noted that voters tend to threaten party desertion but don’t necessarily do so. A recent Gallup survey found that 11 percent of Republican voters said they would vote for a different party or not at all if McCain doesn’t pick a running mate who is more conservative than he is.

Historically, the party-switch factor has shown to be less dramatic, Gallup analysts said. Less than 10 percent of Republicans and Democrats crossed party lines in pre-election Gallup polls from 1992 to 2004.

Since the attacks on McCain's wicked past and present have not really started, I don't take these #s as gospel. (1 image)

I'll ask you what I asked lodwick and Cynicom,

Do you think we would be in the same situation right now, if Al Gore had been proven to have won in 2000? Or Kerry in 2004?

Al Gore blasts George H.W. Bush for ignoring Iraq's ties to terrorists and disregarding Iraq's attempts to acquire weapons of mass destruction. (1992)

Al Gore was right to be concerned about HW Bush b/c HW Bush had been selling WMDs to Saddam Hussein. After Gulf War I, HW Bush broke his promises to the Iraqis who helped us, and left them to Saddam to kill (as traitors).

al-Sadr's father was one of those killed by Saddam b/c he helped the Americans in Gulf War I. Then Paul Bremer made al-Sadr a folk hero, by shutting down his small newspaper (a readership of 5K only). And the serious chaos began. Paul Bremer was busy smoking Saddam's Davidoff cigars and drinking Saddam's Napoleon brandy, and screwing the once protected Iraqi women. For this he received the Medal of Freedom which he probably hangs prominently in one of his homes, perhaps his Swiss vacation home. I can only hope he breathed in enough DU.

Al Gore in 2002:

Specifically, I am deeply concerned that the course of action that we are presently embarking upon with respect to Iraq has the potential to seriously damage our ability to win the war against terrorism and to weaken our ability to lead the world in this new century.

But of course you knew all this, just like you "know" I am a neo-conservative.

Actually you have no logical response, just as you have no facts to support your personal attack against me.

Today I endorse Barack Obama for president of the United States. I believe him to be a person of integrity, intelligence, and genuine good will. I take him at his word that he wants to move the nation beyond its religious and racial divides and that he wants to return the United States to that company of nations committed to human rights. I do not know if his earlier life experience is sufficient for the challenges of the presidency that lie ahead. I doubt we know this about any of the men or women we might select. It likely depends upon the serendipity of the events that cannot be foreseen. I do have confidence that the senator will cast his net widely in search of men and women of diverse, open-minded views and of superior intellectual qualities to assist him in the wide range of responsibilities that he must superintend.

This endorsement may be of little note or consequence, except perhaps that it comes from an unlikely source: namely, a former constitutional legal counsel to two Republican presidents.

Ron Paul was totally free from the establishment. I see Barack Obama as the least bought and paid for by lobbyists among the 3 remaining. I have many differences with Obama, but I see him as the only one who will get us out of Iraq.

We know the warmongering McCain will keep us in Iraq, he has promised us.

We know Hillary will very likely keep us there too, she will give no date.

Barack Obama stated clearly in 2002 he was against the Iraq war and he has a firm date to get us out of Iraq.

Barack Obama has also promised to restore habeas corpus. The other two have said nothing.

But you would rather that no one wake up to these ideas. You would rather shill against Obama.

Notice, I did not post to you, I was asking someone else this question. But for some reason, you chose to butt in and attack me at this moment. And your attack was totally unfounded and w/o evidence.

I have posted many times why I am voting for Obama. None of the reasons have to do with his ties to CFR or his stance on gun control or abortion. Those are 3 things I do not like about him. OTOH, McCain thinks bombing children, babies and pregnant women is a necessary part of the hegemony. And Hillary is much like Obama on abortion and gun control. McCain will have no trouble removing whatever remains of our Constitutional rights.

Hillary and McCain are also CFR, we cannot get away from CFR right now. The number of presidents members of CFR has been posted on 4um recently more than once.

I see Barack Obama as doing the least damage, and he is the most likely to get us out of Iraq.

There have been numerous threads about how the Zionists are turning against Obama. I see that as a good thing, I suspect you do not.
