That is scary! Just yesterday I was worrying about how I used to spend too much time at the beach and pool to stay tan. I don't want to ever look like that, yikes! At least I'm away from the sun now!

I've never seen anything like that, her skin looks like leather!
One time a very hot vial containing hydrochloric acid exploded in my hand (I wasn't wearing gloves, I ran down from lunch to check on the vials and the thermostat in the instrument went bad and heated up way too much which made one of the vials explode as I took it out) and my hand looked like leather for about 2 weeks. The texture reminded me of a leather purse, it looked like the skin of that woman in the picture.
It all peeled off eventually though and my hand went back to normal.
I knew a woman that was getting like that in SB. She had a pool and lived out by the pool side all summer. When she was 48 you could see it, but she had to move just right to make her skin bunch up. By 50 it was starting to show no matter what. I once asked her daughter why she did it and her daughter told me her mom knew she looked bad, but she thought her damaged skin looked better tanned.
I actually try to get out in the sun since I live in Alaska now and the sun rays are so weak here that you can't even make sun tea. They do tell us to try to get some sun, as we need the vitamin D. They say if people have dark skin it's harder for the vitamin D to penetrate.
I am very white now but I don't mind, as everyone else here is very white and since the sun is so weak way up here it is healthier to be as light as possible so that what little sun rays we get can penetrate. This time of year it's light out almost all the time, yet the sun is still not very strong.
