The verbal distortions, gyrations and contortions of the mainstream media continue as it attempts to transform Sen. Barack Obama, a liar, a hypocrite, a phony and an artful dodger, into another Abraham Lincoln and to magically transform even his alliance with evil into something that is somehow praiseworthy. Judging by the reviews from the mainstream media, you would think Mr. Obama's Philadelphia speech rivaled the Gettysburg Address and that he is the new Abraham Lincoln.

The latest example comes from the Philadelphia Daily News, the junior partner of the Philadelphia Inquirer in dishonest, fraudulent and biased journalism. On March 20, it ran an editorial entitled "Obama's Biggest Hit: His Speech Treated Us Like Grownups." In his Philadelphia speech, the Daily News gushes in praise for what it calls his "great lyrics so well-suited to the discordant melody that is race relations in this country. ... And as thankful as we are for a public discussion of race, we are also grateful to him for injecting nuanced, complicated ideas into the public debate. ... He spoke to the country like we were grownups. And long after the swooning and accolades for his performance die down, we hope the bar he's raised on grownup discourse will stay high."

Then the Orwellian inversions begin. The Daily News is part of that undeserved "swooning" and goes on to praise him for continuing his 20-year-plus alliance with racism, bigotry, insanity and hate: "He didn't throw pastor Jeremiah Rev. Wright under the bus. ... Barack Obama embraced Rev. Wright despite his flaws, despite their disagreements." Why throw the bigot under the bus, when you can throw your grandma under the bus without losing political support from your base? You can't pick your grandma, but you can pick your pastor, and Mr. Obama picked a well-known anti-American, and that tells you what you have to know about him.

Can you imagine what the Philadelphia Daily News would be writing if John McCain had a 20-year association with someone like David Duke and refused to end that association? Would they write: "He didn't throw David Duke under the bus. John McCain embraced David Duke despite his flaws, despite their disagreements." This comparison makes it clear that the Daily News is so blinded by its own bias and its attempt to set up the coronation of Mr. Obama that it has lost its ability to think and reason rationally and logically. It ought to stick to sports, which it does best.

It continues its illogical and irrational drivel with this sentence: "That is why the speech resonated with so many - all of us in our family have people in our lives whom we must embrace, no matter how hard that might be. We know that a family demands love, forgiveness and acceptance in the face of flaws - and serious disagreements don't necessarily threaten the whole. That's something we think this country is longing for." Yes, the country is longing for the embrace of bigots and racists even in the face of their flaws, says the Daily News, which is clearly not dealing with a full deck.

Consider the sheer stupidity of that comparison and analysis. If the Daily News can't draw the distinction between the hate-spewing Rev. Wright and Mr. Obama's old grandmother, they are in worse shape than I thought. First, the Daily News is impliedly comparing Mr. Obama's relationship with his grandmother, who made a few comments considered racist in a private conversation with her grandson, to the raving and ranting of a minister systematically preaching hatred and bigotry before thousands on a regular basis. No one should embrace that, as Mr. Obama has and even now does. Second, no one should somehow conclude that because you may not want to disown your own grandmother that you should somehow support and embrace racists and bigots. This may escape the Daily News, but you can and should reject a racist, bigot, and hater. That's certainly true when that bigot and nutcase is not your grandma! The editorial writer of the Daily News, by like token, might have written, "What a noble act of love and understanding that Mr. XYZ did not throw Hitler under the bus."

The Daily News is saying because "a family demands love, forgiveness and acceptance in the face of flaws" the bigots, the racists and the professional haters have a similar claim to the same.

The Daily News ends on this note: "We aren't children who want to watch cartoonish exaggerations of right and wrong, good and bad, black and white. We're grownups facing a frightening future. Pretending that people must be above mistakes, above imperfections, makes that future more difficult." That might make sense in the abstract, but when applied to Rev. Wright, it is madness. You could say the same about any force of evil. The liberal mentality always falls into the trap of unwillingness to reject evil and eagerness to excuse it and rationalize it, which is exactly what Mr. Obama did in his Philadelphia speech and exactly what the Daily News does in the editorial at hand.

It's clear that no matter what Obama revelations come out in the months ahead, the mainstream media will somehow either ignore them or justify them. If you follow the reporting of the mainstream media closely, you will soon conclude it can no longer be trusted to deliver fair and balanced reporting and to deliver rational and logical editorializing.

And remember that the full story of Mr. Obama is just emerging. Rev. Wright's connection is the smallest tip of the largest iceberg, and we still have 99 percent of the truth to uncover, truth the mainstream media will delete or downplay, no matter how it reflects his suitability as president.

Here are just a few of the recent developments neglected by the mainstream media.

It turns out that Mr. Obama was quick to denounce Don Imus for his racial slurs against the women's basketball team of Rutgers University. He wanted Mr. Imus fired immediately. Mr. Obama boldly proclaimed to ABC News how he would handle someone he saw as a bigot: "There's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group." Mr. Obama also made it clear he would never appear on Mr. Imus' show again.

So for three words he would fire and boycott Don Imus. But he sat and listened to the bigotry and insane theories (the U.S. created the AIDS virus to commit genocide on those of color; we knew about 9/11 in advance, etc...) pour out of Rev. Wright for over 20 years without protest, and only renounced Rev. Wright's poisonous statements (but not Rev. Wright himself) when forced to do so to save his political position. And despite claiming to be a devout member of Rev. Wright's church, Mr. Obama now claims he knew nothing about Rev. Wright or his theology.

Consider the Trent Lott controversy involving a statement that maybe former Sen. Strom Thurmond should have been elected president. Mr. Lott was paying tribute to Mr. Thurmond on his 100th birthday. Then-state Mr. Obama said, "It seems to be that we can forgive a 100-year-old senator for some of the indiscretion of his youth, but what is more difficult to forgive is the current president of the U.S. Senate [Mr. Lott] suggesting we had been better off if we had followed a segregationist path in this country after all of the battles and fights for civil rights and all the work that we still have to do. The Republican Party itself has to drive out Trent Lott. If they have to stand for something, they have to stand up and say this is not the person we want representing our party."

So Mr. Obama demanded Mr. Lott's head for a few sentences at a birthday party. But he still supports and embraces for over 20 years a nut who preaches hate . Mr. Obama lectured the Republican Party that if they want "to stand for something" they have to "stand up" and oust Mr. Lott. How ironic Mr. Obama can't stand for something and stand up to oppose bigotry and racial divisiveness by his own pastor and in his own church. But in view of his logic, it appears that Mr. Obama now stands for something and that something is bigotry and racial divisiveness.

And one final bit of the Obama hypocrisy. During the flap over Don Imus' statement about the women's Rutgers basketball team, Mr. Obama said, "He didn't just cross the line. He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America." The man who objects to racial stereotyping, as you might expect, engaged in it himself. He described his grandmother as one who uttered racial and ethnic stereotypes. Later, in an interview with sports host Angelo Cataldi on WIP radio, he described his grandmother as a "typical white person." Like his mentor, Rev. Wright, he apparently thinks all whites are racists. Then when he saw he was caught in a trap of his own language and views, he tried to lie out of it. Originally, it had been that his grandmother was afraid when she saw a black man coming down the street. The lie turned that into somebody on the street "she doesn't know." That new formulation changed it into suggesting that the "typical white person" is not fearful of blacks but only of black strangers.

Putting all that discussion aside, remember that the mainstream media lost track of the issue in the Wright-Obama scandal. Race has nothing to do with it. Association has everything to do with it. If both Mr. Obama and Rev. Wright were white, blue or polka dot, the issue would still be the same - whether a candidate for president should have a long-term close association and aid, support, and embrace a bigot and a screwball. Because association is key, all the mainstream media discussion about the great speech on race is irrelevant. The speech was supposed to respond to the Wright-Obama association, and it did not - it ended with Mr. Obama making excuses and justifications for Rev. Wright but in no acceptable way making that association benign. He might as well have spoken on the beauty of trees or the poetry of Emily Dickinson. His speech had nothing to do with the issue at hand - his association with Rev. Wright. In fact, by making the speech on race rather than the association with Rev. Wright, Mr. Obama needlessly dragged race into the campaign and, in effect, played the race card.

It is important to point out that new evidence makes that association even more shocking. The latest on Rev. Wright and his bigotry comes in the form of Rev. Wright and his church supporting Hamas, a terrorist organization that has murdered Americans and Israelis. A headline from a WorldNetDaily dispatch reads, "Obama church published Hamas terror manifesto: Compares charter calling for murder of Jews to Declaration of Independence."

The WorldNetDaily dispatch reported, "The Hamas piece was published on the 'Pastor's Page' of the Trinity United Church of Christ newsletter reserved for Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose anti-American, anti-Israel remarks landed Obama in hot water, prompting the presidential candidate to deliver a major race speech."

Making that pro-Hamas, pro-terrorist, pro-murder, pro-genocide position of Rev. Wright and Mr. Obama's church even more disturbing is the fact that Robert Malley, an Obama adviser, has advocated negotiations with Hamas and international assistance to this organization, which has been declared by our own state department and by other governments as a terrorist group.

In connection with the Hamas scandal, the Web site RenewAmerica reported:

"In supporting Hamas via his church bulletin, is it surprising that Rev. Wright taught a 'black liberation theology' that warned blacks that whites were out to kill them? This was on the church's Web site until airbrushed away recently. Before it was completely erased there was a warning there to blacks that whites are 'captors' and blacks 'captives.' One reason whites seek to capture helpless black captives is to kill them. Kill them? Yes, that's what the site states: white 'captors' plot to kill black 'captives.'

"Here is what used to be on the site: 'Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must keep the captive ignorant educationally, but trained sufficiently well to serve the system. Also, the captors must be able to identify the "talented tenth" of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor's control. Those so identified as [sic] separated from the rest of the people by: Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.'"

Mr. Obama has repudiated the church's support of Hamas, terrorism, murder and genocide. But needless to say, he hasn't repudiated Rev. Wright or his church.

So there are many issues to be resolved about the Wright-Obama association:

Most importantly, the media have to get to the 99 percent of his record not yet examined and vetted. The mainstream media won't do that, but there are alternative sources such as NewsMax, WorldNetDaily and conservative talk radio.

We have to ask how widespread are the proponents of black liberation theology, which seems to be a form of anti-white racism.

We have to wonder not only why Mr. Obama would associate with Rev. Wright but also why he would belong to a church that would clap and cheer at each of the pronouncements of bigotry and racism.

Finally, we have to wonder why there is virtually no criticism of Mr. Obama within the United Church of Christ in Chicago or the national church organization. The pastor taking Rev. Wright's place is defending him and in his Easter sermon, compared the criticism of Rev. Wright to a public lynching and even to the crucifixion of Christ. And the headquarters of the United Church of Christ posted a document on its Web site, which was a total defense and enthusiastic endorsement of Rev. Wright and his church.

What do these bizarre Obama associates mean for the kind of administration he will have? Will he have a secretary state in the mode of Mr. Malley who would want to negotiate with and aid the terrorists? Would he have people infected with the anti-American virus displayed by his wife and his pastor? And what kind of appointments would come from a man whose mentor for over 20 years is a bigot, a racist and a nut?

In future columns, I will continue to explore the Obama record and the Obama-Wright scandal. I'm pleased to report that my many columns on this subject have been well received, with recommendations to continue this work. Anyone interested in more on the subject should see my many columns on the subject that can be found on at www.thebulletin.us.

After reviewing Rev. Wright's pronouncements, one thing is clear. Mark Steyn, the author and columnist whose work appears in The Bulletin, has pointed out that we now understand why Sen. Obama is anxious to talk to and negotiate with the likes of Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. By comparison with Rev. Wright, Mr. Ahmadinejad will seem kindly and reasonable.

Obama....

"To fix the economy, Obama proposed relief for homeowners and an additional $30 billion stimulus package to address the nation’s economic woes. He also called for a $1,000 tax cut for “working families.” Working families received tax cuts under the 2001 and 2003 cuts proposed by President Bush and passed by Congress."

More free money, wheeeeeeeeeee.

Well... Abraham Lincoln was a liar, a hypocrite, a phony and an artful dodger. The mythmakers transformed Lincoln into something he never was.

Dishonest Abe might be a bad example.

And, of course, we are lucky that Hillary dodged that sniper fire or she wouldn't be here to run.

Herb Denenberg appears upset by any association with Hamas. I think he has an agenda.

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.
