(s)Elections See other (s)Elections Articles Title: Vote McCain in 2008 (if you think Bush deserves a third term) Why would Americans want to give a third term to the most unpopular administration in American history? While many Americans still envision John McCain as the straight-talking, special interest-disdaining maverick candidate of the 2000 election, the fact is that he's never really been any of those things. Make no mistake about it. A vote for John McCain is a vote for George W. Bush and a McCain win is akin to giving our current imperial president an undeserved third term. r Marching in step with the Bush war doctrine: McCain is a full-fledged "hawk" and a staunch supporter of President Bush's war effort. Not only does he think that the surge is "working," but McCain believes that the Iraq war is winnable and that winning is essential. Citing our long-term occupation of Korea, McCain has no problem keeping U.S. soldiers in Iraq for many years. McCain is also in lockstep with Bush on Iran. There is no question he'd use military force against Iran if he deemed it necessary. This is dangerous, given the milquetoast character of Congress. Would Congress stand up to McCain or roll over and play dead? America's reputation is tarnished. Regardless of the strategy behind the "Bush Doctrine," his unwarranted invasion of Iraq has reduced us to worldwide bully status. Bush proudly calls himself a "war president," and he is. He has thrown away more than 200 years of diplomacy, preferring the pre-emptive strike strategy embraced by the neo-cons. Do not expect better from Mr. McCain. r Out of touch with reality on reproductive rights: The National Right to Life Committee gives McCain a 72 percent rating for the years between 1997-2000, while NARAL Pro-Choice America gives him a 1 percent rating. When asked his position on contraception during a bus trip between campaign stops, McCain fumbled around for an answer, sounding like anything but presidential material. However, he did not hesitate to state that grants for sex education should not address the use of contraception, but rather adhere to Bush's "abstinence only" policy. McCain's mentor on reproductive rights is Senator/Doctor Tom Coburn (R-OK), who says he has delivered more than 4,000 babies. Coburn believes that life begins at conception, opposes abortion in all cases (except in the rare case where the mother's life is in danger) and advocates the death penalty for abortion providers. r A sudden change of heart on torture: Until recently, McCain had been a vocal critic of the president's use of waterboarding and other inhumane interrogation techniques, having been tortured himself as a POW in Vietnam. However, as the GOP nominee, he needs the support of the powerful right wing element in the Republican Party. Suddenly waterboarding isn't such a problem for him anymore. On Feb. 13, John McCain voted against an intelligence bill designed to effectively outlaw torture by making the Army Field Manual the law of the land. r A legend in his own mind: McCain's outward disdain of special interests and "soft" money donations is legendary. In 2002, Sen. McCain and Sen. Russell Feingold (D-Wis) teamed up to pass the McCain-Feingold Act in an attempt to eliminate large donations from corporations, labor unions and wealthy individuals. Do not be fooled. The only difference between McCain and Bush is that McCain quietly straddles the line that he himself draws in the sand. During the '80s, McCain was one of five senators who sought to influence the investigation into the failed Lincoln Savings & Loan and its chairman, Charles H. Keating Jr., which reportedly cost taxpayers anywhere between $2.6 and $3.4 billion. Because McCain received $112,000 in donations from Keating, his family and his employees by the time he entered the Senate in 1987, many feel he got off easy with just a reprimand. He appeared remorseful, rededicating himself to cleaning up politics. The disturbing thing about McCain's reported association with telecommunications lobbyist Vicki Iseman is not that it gave the appearance of an extramarital affair. It's disturbing that McCain indulged in the behavior that he so publicly disdains. In spite of his denials, the paper trail shows that he wrote letters to the FCC on behalf of her client, Paxson Communications. r Time for a reality check: McCain "talks the talk" but does not "walk the walk." He does not steer clear of lobbyists and big money donors and is keenly aware of what they can do to put him in the White House. That's why his 2008 campaign staff is stocked with them. Yet the mainstream media continues to portray McCain as a maverick, a persona they created and continue to foster. The public is better served getting the true picture of the man who might be our next president.

Bush has proven beyond all doubt that he did not deserve a second term.
A vote for John McCain is a vote for George W. Bush and a McCain win is akin to giving our current imperial president an undeserved third term. This is 100% accurate. Just Vote NO!

Out of the three that the media "chose" for the sheeple to vote on, not one of them is worth a d@mn. Not one of 'em. McCain is neither any better or worse than the other communists he is running against. No matter which one of them wins, America loses. It appears that it was designed that way beginning with Lincoln and really going downhill starting with Wilson and FDR.

If Dolly Parton were running as a communist, I would most likely vote for her.
I don't hate anyone but it would be hard for me to come up with three WORSE people to vote for for president. You could get better people at random off the street than any of those.
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end. I think you'd vote for Dolly no matter WHAT party she was affiliated with. On the other hand, she would get my vote, too, if placed on the ballot against those we see as our choices.
