PROGRAMME DETAILS

Date: April 7, 2008 (11 AM - 1.00 PM, Central Time)

Host: Stephen Lendman

This week's guests:

Lynne Stewart and Robert McChesney are is the featured guest on The Global Research News Hour

Lynne Stewart is a noted defense lawyer who was charged under the 1996 Antiterrorism Act with four counts of aiding and abetting a terrorist organization. She was unjustly accused and convicted on all counts of providing material support for terrorism and violating Special Administrative Measures (SAMS) imposed by the Bureau of Prisons, that included a gag order on her client, Sheik Abdel Rahman.

On October 17, she was vindicated in federal court. The Justice Department wanted a 30 year sentence, but the presiding judge ruled otherwise and rebuked the government in his decision. He sentenced Stewart to 28 months and allowed her to remain free pending appeal. It was held on January 29, and Stewart awaits the three-judge panel decision.

Discussion with her will focus on her case, the outrageous injustice against her, her thoughts and comments as she awaits the Appeals Court decision, and other political persecution cases in Police State America.

Robert McChesney is a leading media scholar, critic, activist, and the nation's most prominent researcher and writer on US media history, its policy and practice. He's also University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) Research Professor in the Institute of Communications Research and the Graduate School of Library and Information Science.

In addition, he's the 2002 co-founder and president of the growing Free Press media reform advocacy organization and hosts a weekly (online available) radio program called Media Matters on WILL-AM radio.

McChesney is also a frequent speaker, writer and author or editor of 16 books on the media, including his newest and topic for the April 7 program, "Communication Revolution - Critical Junctures and the Future of Media."
