Strategist: Rice eyeing VP spot on ticket

Published: April 6, 2008 at 3:59 PM

WASHINGTON, April 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has exhibited interest in becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate, a Republican strategist says.

Dan Senor revealed during Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that Rice has been seeking support to be considered for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket this fall.

"Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this," Senor said.

The party strategist said Rice could represent an ideal vice presidential candidate when paired with the Arizona senator, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

"What the McCain campaign has to consider is whether or not they want to pick a total outsider, a fresh face, someone a lot younger than him, a governor who people aren't that familiar with," Senor said. "The challenge they're realizing is that they'll have to have to spend 30-45 days, which they won't have at that point, educating the American public about who this person is.

"The other category is someone who people instantly say, the second they see that announcement, I get it, that person could be president tomorrow. Condi Rice is an option."

This really would make McCain the Bush III ticket.

Sounds like an expectation of Cain vs Obama.

When one can lie like Condi did for W about Iraq and WMD, growth potential within the government is limitless. /sarcasm

That assumes it's someone people like. With Bush at 30% approval, will people want a reminder of his Iraq disaster foreign policy reelected for another 4-8 years?

... possibly, I must admit....

With Bush at 30% approval....

I think Bush is looking up at a 30% job approval rating these days.

On his handling of the economy he sagged under 20%, so maybe focusing on his Iraq foreign policy disaster would be a positive, distracting from the more negative economic domestic policy disaster.

Maybe we will have to bomb Iran in October to make us safe from the bogeyman, and then of course, don't change horses in mid-stream.

Oh come on, you mean you don't think it would be cute to have a VPOTUS who has a tall black boot fetish? And that smile, imagine seeing it responding to each and every act of sheer insanity coming from McInsanity's mouth with all it's shiny and wide vacancy to it. You know with them to pick on the Onion would never go out of business.

I would say that you just don't appreciate the high humor of such a ticket. Nobody, and I mean nobody next to McInsanity is going to make that sows ear a silk purse, so at the very least, have a ticket like McandRice that highlights just what an insane choice for a candidate the Republicans have settled on already.
