Title: Obama Loses 10-Point Advantage Over McCain, Who Is Now Tied With Both Democrats

Republican Sen. John McCain has erased Sen. Barack Obama's 10-point advantage in a head-to-head matchup, leaving him essentially tied with both Democratic candidates in an Associated Press-Ipsos national poll released Thursday. The survey showed the extended Democratic primary campaign creating divisions among supporters of Obama and rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and suggests a tight race for the presidency in November no matter which Democrat becomes the nominee. McCain is benefiting from a bounce since he clinched the GOP nomination a month ago. The four-term Arizona senator has moved up in matchups with each of the Democratic candidates, particularly Obama. An AP-Ipsos poll taken in late February had Obama leading McCain 51-41 percent. The current survey, conducted April 7-9, had them at 45 percent each. McCain leads Obama among men, whites, Southerners, married women and independents. Clinton led McCain, 48-43 percent, in February. The latest survey showed the New York senator with 48 percent support to McCain's 45 percent. Factoring in the poll's margin of error of 3.1 percentage points, Clinton and McCain are statistically tied. The last month has been challenging for Obama. The Illinois senator suffered high-profile losses in the Texas and Ohio primaries that encouraged Clinton, who pushed on even harder against him. Obama's campaign also suffered a blow with scrutiny of incendiary sermons delivered by his longtime pastor. The candidate responded by delivering perhaps the biggest speech of his campaign to call for racial understanding. Obama is also facing almost daily critiques from Clinton and McCain, questioning whether the freshman lawmaker has the experience to be a wartime leader. Despite all the conflict surrounding Obama, the Democratic contest is unchanged from February with Obama at 46 percent and Clinton at 43 percent. But the heated primary is creating divisions among the electorate — many Clinton and Obama supporters say they would rather vote for McCain if their chosen Democrat doesn't win the nomination. About a quarter of Obama supporters say they'll vote for McCain if Clinton is the Democratic nominee. About a third of Clinton supporters say they would vote for McCain if it's Obama. Against McCain, Obama lost ground among women — from 57 percent in February to 47 percent in April. Obama dropped 12 points among women under 45, 14 points among suburban women and 15 points among married women. He also lost nine points or more among voters under 35, high-income households, whites, Catholics, independents, Southerners, people living in the Northeast and those with a high school education or less. Although the race between Clinton and Obama remained unchanged, there were a few shifts in whom voters are choosing: _ The gender gap has mostly disappeared, with Clinton losing her advantage among women. In February, 51 percent of Democratic women supported Clinton while 38 percent were for Obama. Now they're statistically tied at 44 percent for Clinton, 42 percent for Obama. That is partially offset by a decline in male support for Obama, down 7 points to 50 percent, while Clinton gained 10 points among men. She is now at 42 percent. _ Obama and Clinton are now statistically about even among households earning under $50,000. In late February, Clinton led 54 percent to 37 percent, but now it is just 48 percent to 41 percent. _ Obama now leads Clinton among self-described moderate Democrats, 51 percent to 35 percent. Previously they were 45 percent Clinton, 40 percent Obama. The poll questioned 1,005 adults nationally. Sorry, friend. It just don't work. Again, you think a bit about the rights your second amendment grants you and what you are actually ALLOWED today, under your precious W leader. Think about it for a second or 2 and name ONE weapon that you own or you could procure that would inconvenience your local, state or federal government in any significant way. Then name the politician who would remove restrictions on full-auto, silencers, the length of the barrel, machine guns, armor-piercing ammo. Just to name a few modest improvements in the current restrictions. And I'm not discussing missiles, battle robots or combat lasers. Remember, your precious second amendment was meant not to ensure your protection fro cat burglars - that was a given - but to make the g-men think twice before messing up with you. But all you can think of is your little pea shooters that you call 'arms'. And don't expect any top gov't man to be on your side on this issue. You take your rights. No one will 'give' them to you.

I have read that he voted to table amendments that would make it illegal to kill a baby born as a result of a mistaken partial birth abortion. I believe Devvy Kidd has written about it. You can bet the house that there are Republicans planning to use this against Obama in the general election.

Shorting them before benefits, piss poor VA care, extended deployments, etc. Next, those that suffered trauma and report it will lose their rights to purchase firearms. I don't know anyone that says they would serve if it was to defend the North American Union.

Obama voted twice as a state senator to make it legal to incinerate a baby if it is born mistakenly during a partial birth abortion. is this factual? i have heard that Obama supports late term abortions, but this is something altogether different. i'd like to see proof of his votes on this.
I have heard this from Lee Rodgers who has a morning show here on KSFO and he researches everything. I also heard it from Devvy Kidd. I will look for a printed source.

Obama may not be Christ 2 but, believe you me, he's decent enough for US Prez and, when compared with the 2 disgusting creatures competing with him for the job he IS Christ-like I really hope that Bob Barr runs as a Libertarian. Hillary and McCain are despicable, but Obama isn't much better. Obama would be better on foreign policy (not likely to invade Iran, for starts), but on domestic economic and social issues he'd be even worse. If you think that McCain and Hillary would cram more welfare spending, amnesty and affirmative action down your throats, wait until you see Obama.
Obama can't spend a dime that the congress doesn't approve. He can't make laws either. As president, he shouldn't be able to take the country to war because it's the congress' prerogative too. Yes, Barr would be a good candidate. He better switched into high gear now if he wants to have a chance at taking W's job.

Congress played along with everything the Bush administration wanted, so with the right number of Democrats, Obama could do the same. I just learned that the Army thought of the Apache AH_64 as a "flying tank"....till the early days of the Iraq war 2. As something like 20 choppers flew over a bunch of insurgents they were shot at by RPG's and rifle fire and took out one of the choppers and put hole, lots of holes the all the rest but one. The army evidently didn't think it was possible. And pulled the flight rules for the Apache back from the front lines. Never said what kind of rifle was holeing the Apaches, maybe something heavier like a 240. I think the AK may be the single best weapon system ever made, but you do need a lot of them.

I understand; some say a tweak here and there works. A case can also be made for semi-auto over full auto in house to house (Iraqi) conditions.
What I stated was that the current interpretation of the 2d amendment is that you may legally bear arms that do not threaten or inconvenience the gov't. Sure, if you break the law, you can convert your AK to full auto but that does not invalidate my theory.
