During the 1990's the congress was ruled by Democrats during the first 5 years and by the Republicans in the 2'nd 5 years. and the growth rate of the government was slightly higher under republicans than under democrats. and that was when the defense spending was held down to 300 billion a year. Then after 2001 the defense spending has multipled up to 800 billion a year when you count the war- spending. Both GW Bush & GHW Bush proved to be very much fans of big- government. Perhaps you are a Ron Paul supporter then. as he's the only major figure who wants to reduce government.

The Navy and Air Force personnel that the Bush regime is now sending into ground combat in Iraq are not professional ground soldiers. If I had been sent into ground combat in Vietnam after my Air Force training in 1969, I hate to think how badly I would have acquitted myself there. Even if I had had the couple of weeks training in ground combat that the military is giving those Navy and Air Force types they are sending into ground combat now.
