For many years I have been offended by the 'authorities' using the word 'citizen ' to describe those of us who not vested with a badge, gun, and handcuffs. It tends to perpetuate the 'us vs. them' mentality that seems desireable for maintaining 'solidarity' among police. I would prefer Alex not to deliver that type of monologue with a Southern accent; the nexus of governmental authority in the U.S. derives not from the South but, probably, is best typified with a Lon Gisland accent....
