Obama Divorces Wright

29 Apr 2008 02:25 pm

That was a very impressive, clear and constructive re-framing of the core message of his candidacy; and a moment given to him by Wright. No one will ever be able to say that Obama threw his father-figure and pastor under the bus. We all know that the reverse happened. We also know that this clear repudiation of Wright's toxic, indeed "ridiculous" views on AIDS, 9/11 and permanent immiseration of people of color could not have happened unless Wright had made it necessary. Skeptics may wonder whether Wright actually deliberately did Obama a favor. I doubt it. But a favor it unintentionally is.

Maybe God does bring good out of bad. Maybe these racial and cultural divides can help us understand how better to move beyond them. Cynics may scoff - and certainly will. They will parse every nuance and try to paint Obama as another cynical, positioning pol. I don't believe it. He has more sincerity and integrity than the vast majority of politicians, more honesty, and more resilience in a very tough spot.

And today, we found that he can fight back, and take a stand, without calculation and in what is clearly a great amount of personal difficulty and political pain. It's what anyone should want in a president. It makes me want to see him succeed more than ever. It's why this country needs to see him succeed more than ever.

This is pure politics. They've been playing media politics against him and so he's going to use media politics to work for him.

I was far more disappointed in his announcement on Fox News that he would be joining his fellow Democrats to confirm BetrayUs. But considering politically, who he does not need to alienate, especially on Fox News, it makes political sense.

I said early this morning that that Wright was in Hillary's pocket, and for my keen observation the Os called me lots of nasty names :)

The problem for Obama is this; Wright is a total head case and he's not going away. Every time he makes an appearance, it will damage Obama. IMVHO, he's unelectable and Hillary just might have made her case to the super Ds.

Oddly, Jeremiah Wright’s incendiary appearance at the National Press Club might have been just what the doctor ordered for Barack Obama’s ailing campaign.

After days of a strained separation, Mr. Obama delivered divorce papers Tuesday - denouncing his former pastor's appearance Monday as "a rant" both “divisive and destructive” and “giving comfort to those who prey on hate.”

In one fell swoop, Mr. Obama separated himself from Mr. Wright – and perhaps answered critics who’ve questioned the Illinois senator’s capacity to fight back.

Hillary Clinton’s the fighter in the Democratic presidential contest. Mr. Obama exudes distance and superannuated cool, which has invited the politically damaging suspicion that he might not be tough enough for the job.

On Tuesday, a visibly angry Barack Obama interrupted a campaign effectively hijacked by Mr. Wright in order to make a clean break with his former pastor.

“The person I saw yesterday was not the person I had come to know over 20 years,” Mr. Obama told reporters in North Carolina, which holds its primary Tuesday.

...

According to the reporter who wrote the article at that link (and I agree with him), this clears the air about Wright, by allowing Obama to further distance him from Rev. Wright.

Nada, Robin, that Briar Patch Obama finds himself in is rather sticky.

Just an initial sidebar - intercenine disputes about the true nature of the Black Church are not helping or pushing Obama's candidacy forward.

He's sadly mired as this late seperation and Obama's words require a suspension of belief considering his long history with Rev Wright. Now, to use his own analogy, he's either throwing his uncle outta the house or locking him up in the basement.

Barack should have been more clear and pointed as befitting the orator compliment lavished upon him.

For instance, something along the lines of "the very fact of that I'm standing here is a tribute and positive attestation to the openmindedness of the American people and polity in considering a black man as a serious candidate for the presidency and negates much of what RevWright has to say".

IMO, it was too tepid and too late, considering his earlier comments.

Now the very issue in which he differentiates himself from Clinton is in doubt - his judgement. How could he not see this part of Wright and the Trinity Church before this moment, and if he didn't, how are we to evaluate his judgement.

If he sees RevWright clearly now, why didn't he take off the rose colored glasses earlier.

I'm afraid he stumbles into the nomination badly wounded, and contrary to his stated goal, engendering division more than unity.

You know what's funny? I'm convinced about half the remaining GOPers in this country, who are now at a low ebb percentagewise, DON"T EVEN WANT the White House for the upcoming term.

The next President is the new Hoover who can only break out of the Greater Depression of the 2010s box by becoming the new Hitler, only this time with nukes ready and willing to launch. That sums up McInsane in a NUT(pun intended)shell.

Obama has been taking a serious beating from the media, the GOP, McCain and the Hillary camp. Surprising that he's still standing.
