Obama Divorces Wright

29 Apr 2008 02:25 pm

That was a very impressive, clear and constructive re-framing of the core message of his candidacy; and a moment given to him by Wright. No one will ever be able to say that Obama threw his father-figure and pastor under the bus. We all know that the reverse happened. We also know that this clear repudiation of Wright's toxic, indeed "ridiculous" views on AIDS, 9/11 and permanent immiseration of people of color could not have happened unless Wright had made it necessary. Skeptics may wonder whether Wright actually deliberately did Obama a favor. I doubt it. But a favor it unintentionally is.

Maybe God does bring good out of bad. Maybe these racial and cultural divides can help us understand how better to move beyond them. Cynics may scoff - and certainly will. They will parse every nuance and try to paint Obama as another cynical, positioning pol. I don't believe it. He has more sincerity and integrity than the vast majority of politicians, more honesty, and more resilience in a very tough spot.

And today, we found that he can fight back, and take a stand, without calculation and in what is clearly a great amount of personal difficulty and political pain. It's what anyone should want in a president. It makes me want to see him succeed more than ever. It's why this country needs to see him succeed more than ever.

Barack Obama cuts bait with Jeremiah Wright

“President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years,” “Maybe a hundred ... ... that’d be fine with me,” McCain responds
Hillary: "I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran in the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."

The fallout should be interesting: blacks are told NOT to air their dirty laundry in public for the white folks to see. This is one of the biggest sins a black person can commit in America.

Wright is like that clingy girlfriend you keep trying to get rid of who keeps showing up at your house at 2am.

With all that is going on, it appears that Wright is enjoying his newly-found celebrity status and will keep on going despite the fact it is destroying Obama.

The net result? When Obama loses, Wright has a national bully pulpit with which to cry "Its RACISM!" - only the problem is that it will have been Wright's racism that did Obama in, not "the white devil" as Wright would like to think.

Even Chris Matthews and the folks at CNN are seeing this one as it comes to pass. Unfortunately, Wright won't listen to any of the white journalists who are trying to help him with damage control.

Its racism, all right, but this time, its Wright's racism doing in Obama.

Elect anyone but Obama, Clinton, or McCain.

This is pure politics. They've been playing media politics against him and so he's going to use media politics to work for him.

I was far more disappointed in his announcement on Fox News that he would be joining his fellow Democrats to confirm BetrayUs. But considering politically, who he does not need to alienate, especially on Fox News, it makes political sense.

“President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years,” “Maybe a hundred ... ... that’d be fine with me,” McCain responds

I said early this morning that that Wright was in Hillary's pocket, and for my keen observation the Os called me lots of nasty names :)

The problem for Obama is this; Wright is a total head case and he's not going away. Every time he makes an appearance, it will damage Obama. IMVHO, he's unelectable and Hillary just might have made her case to the super Ds.

Obama has a race problem of his own. He has written about it, and refused to specifically denounce the anti-white comments of Wright. This is important when wooing white votes. Obama kept stepping in it time and again, through his own tapes, and speeches. Typical white people.. clingy people.. on and on.

As much as blacks have their code language, incredibly, it's not a secret to the rest of the world.

Irrespective of his race, Rev. Wright is speaking truth (as he sees it) to power. If that's being a head case, we need more of them.

I only wish the lily-white, Chimperor-worshipping pastor of the Southern Baptist church I used to attend had the gonads to do so, but SBCers believe the Chimp in particular and GOPers in general to be "anointed of God" to misrule over us and "protect" us from the "Islamofascist hordes" lurking around every corner.

There has never been a Southern Baptist pastor ever do anything but kowtow to what any Republican politician has ever told him to do. If the Chimp asked my former pastor to "service" him, he'd be on his knees in a heartbeat.

All well and good, but a white American would never be given the media access Wright received. Blacks get a better deal afa the dual standard of racial justice the political left has foisted on us.

The Os here deny such reverse racism exists, so rational dialogue with them goes but so far.

Where's all the moral outrage that the FED and the Treasury's just used billions in taxpayer money to bailout Wall Street and Bear Sterns bondholders. That's socialism. To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

Oddly, Jeremiah Wright’s incendiary appearance at the National Press Club might have been just what the doctor ordered for Barack Obama’s ailing campaign.

After days of a strained separation, Mr. Obama delivered divorce papers Tuesday - denouncing his former pastor's appearance Monday as "a rant" both “divisive and destructive” and “giving comfort to those who prey on hate.”

In one fell swoop, Mr. Obama separated himself from Mr. Wright – and perhaps answered critics who’ve questioned the Illinois senator’s capacity to fight back.

Hillary Clinton’s the fighter in the Democratic presidential contest. Mr. Obama exudes distance and superannuated cool, which has invited the politically damaging suspicion that he might not be tough enough for the job.

On Tuesday, a visibly angry Barack Obama interrupted a campaign effectively hijacked by Mr. Wright in order to make a clean break with his former pastor.

“The person I saw yesterday was not the person I had come to know over 20 years,” Mr. Obama told reporters in North Carolina, which holds its primary Tuesday.

...

According to the reporter who wrote the article at that link (and I agree with him), this clears the air about Wright, by allowing Obama to further distance him from Rev. Wright.
