Obama Divorces Wright

29 Apr 2008 02:25 pm

That was a very impressive, clear and constructive re-framing of the core message of his candidacy; and a moment given to him by Wright. No one will ever be able to say that Obama threw his father-figure and pastor under the bus. We all know that the reverse happened. We also know that this clear repudiation of Wright's toxic, indeed "ridiculous" views on AIDS, 9/11 and permanent immiseration of people of color could not have happened unless Wright had made it necessary. Skeptics may wonder whether Wright actually deliberately did Obama a favor. I doubt it. But a favor it unintentionally is.

Maybe God does bring good out of bad. Maybe these racial and cultural divides can help us understand how better to move beyond them. Cynics may scoff - and certainly will. They will parse every nuance and try to paint Obama as another cynical, positioning pol. I don't believe it. He has more sincerity and integrity than the vast majority of politicians, more honesty, and more resilience in a very tough spot.

And today, we found that he can fight back, and take a stand, without calculation and in what is clearly a great amount of personal difficulty and political pain. It's what anyone should want in a president. It makes me want to see him succeed more than ever. It's why this country needs to see him succeed more than ever.

Quick Take: Jeremiah Wright 'rant' might benefit Barack Obama

That's bullshit. Only people keeping the race issue alive are the racists who are too afraid to admit it openly. I know, let's just call Obama a Marxist. Like I said, it's too transparent no matter how you package it. You can spot the white racists here cause they have closed minds, repeat the same unsupported attacks, claim not to be racially motivated and, it would seem have a double standand when it comes to white candidates. It's Obama's blackness that attracts them like flies. That has become all too obvious.

Arete, much proof has been posted here. That you choose not to read it or accept it, is not on me to convince you.

That the globalist play both sides of the street to herd us all, goes unnoticed by you, defies your intellect.

Crab all you want.

For months we've been asking for a reason to vote FOR Obama... and nothing but spin was offered in return.

Sorry.

Let me tell you something.. you want to continue browbeating people for being racists that they are not, is exactly what freepers did to those that didn't support illegal immigration.. It was not a good conversion method, and only pissed people off more.

So, you guys keep it up. Maybe you guys are sent by the same one that controls them.

The internet is wonderful isn't it. No more having to wear the sheets and hoods.

Where's all the moral outrage that the FED and the Treasury's just used billions in taxpayer money to bailout Wall Street and Bear Sterns bondholders. That's socialism. Don't see many calling Bush or Paulson Marxists. Oh, and I expect that all the suddenly anti Marxists of convenience (and name callers, sorry JT, didn't mean to leave you out) will be sending back those socialist tax rebate checks.

Easy to label others and hide behind the keyboard. Most the the big talkers here will gladly take the government handout while ranting on about the socialist black man.

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

Could definitely be a factor. The Bush adinistration used fear and race baiting to take us into a illegal war of aggression for the first time. Oddly, Jeremiah Wright’s incendiary appearance at the National Press Club might have been just what the doctor ordered for Barack Obama’s ailing campaign.

After days of a strained separation, Mr. Obama delivered divorce papers Tuesday - denouncing his former pastor's appearance Monday as "a rant" both “divisive and destructive” and “giving comfort to those who prey on hate.”

In one fell swoop, Mr. Obama separated himself from Mr. Wright – and perhaps answered critics who’ve questioned the Illinois senator’s capacity to fight back.

Hillary Clinton’s the fighter in the Democratic presidential contest. Mr. Obama exudes distance and superannuated cool, which has invited the politically damaging suspicion that he might not be tough enough for the job.

On Tuesday, a visibly angry Barack Obama interrupted a campaign effectively hijacked by Mr. Wright in order to make a clean break with his former pastor.

“The person I saw yesterday was not the person I had come to know over 20 years,” Mr. Obama told reporters in North Carolina, which holds its primary Tuesday.

...

According to the reporter who wrote the article at that link (and I agree with him), this clears the air about Wright, by allowing Obama to further distance him from Rev. Wright.

“President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years,” “Maybe a hundred ... ... that’d be fine with me,” McCain responds
Hillary: "I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran in the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."

The corporate media is now saying that it didn't work as the McCain and Hillary campaigns are stepping up their attacks on Obama. The clear message from the media shills is intended to dismiss Obama latest comments and right back to square one. Could have guessed that one. Obama is screwed no matter what he says. yesterday, the defense of Rev Wright and everything he had to say was in full swing. now that Obama has denounced him, folks are going to have to choose between them. now the racial divide is not between whites and blacks, but between blacks and blacks.

Divide and conquer. It's been working for the ruling class for ages. The only real threat to the entrenched system is a united public. With the corporate media more than willing to spead fear and play on the publics lack of deeper curiousity into the issues, things aren't going to change. Obama is a muslim, Obama won't pledge allegence. Obama is Marxist. One of our own forum posters is referring to Obama as BabyDoc. The intent is all too clear and it shows a rather ugly and disappointing side of the current level of political discussion.

The defense of Rev Wright has not changed, in fact even this morning his remarks to the NAACP were clarified further on another thread. The move by Obama is being noted as political (I used the word at least 3 times in this context this afternoon). We understand why he is distancing himself this way and I'm sure the Rev. Wright does also. The Rev. Wright's remarks are too controversial for the average American, just as not going along with his fellow Democrats in confirming BetrayUs would have been. Obama knows how to play politics when it's necessary. I find it disappointing as I do most political moves, but understand the reasons.

In one fell swoop, Mr. Obama separated himself from Mr. Wright – and perhaps answered critics who’ve questioned the Illinois senator’s capacity to fight back.

Nada, Robin, that Briar Patch Obama finds himself in is rather sticky.

Just an initial sidebar - intercenine disputes about the true nature of the Black Church are not helping or pushing Obama's candidacy forward.

He's sadly mired as this late seperation and Obama's words require a suspension of belief considering his long history with Rev Wright. Now, to use his own analogy, he's either throwing his uncle outta the house or locking him up in the basement.

Barack should have been more clear and pointed as befitting the orator compliment lavished upon him.

For instance, something along the lines of "the very fact of that I'm standing here is a tribute and positive attestation to the openmindedness of the American people and polity in considering a black man as a serious candidate for the presidency and negates much of what RevWright has to say".

IMO, it was too tepid and too late, considering his earlier comments.

Now the very issue in which he differentiates himself from Clinton is in doubt - his judgement. How could he not see this part of Wright and the Trinity Church before this moment, and if he didn't, how are we to evaluate his judgement.

If he sees RevWright clearly now, why didn't he take off the rose colored glasses earlier.

I'm afraid he stumbles into the nomination badly wounded, and contrary to his stated goal, engendering division more than unity.

You know what's funny? I'm convinced about half the remaining GOPers in this country, who are now at a low ebb percentagewise, DON"T EVEN WANT the White House for the upcoming term.

The next President is the new Hoover who can only break out of the Greater Depression of the 2010s box by becoming the new Hitler, only this time with nukes ready and willing to launch. That sums up McInsane in a NUT(pun intended)shell.

IMO the GOP had given up on the Big House this year. They were resigned to a game campaign and come back fired up after 4 years of Hillary!.

It was Hillary's to lose. And looks like she will, since I don't see Barack winning in November.

It must infuriate the Clintons; to be sideswiped and almost run over by a black guy, of all things, considering they pretty much put away all the white guys fairly early. Oh, the psychosexualpolitical irony is too much.

I'd disagree. IMO, he got a pass last year and into this year.

Obama hasn't faced much attacks until after a few weeks ago. In fact, the GOP at first kind of played him up, implying they wouldn't want to face him in November.

And most "negative" mudslinging has come from the Democrats. Albeit with help from FOX, but whaddya expect from them.

The Repubs have barely begun. If he can't handle the campaign primary at this level of intensity, wait til the the GOP pitchers are done warming up.

The current piling on seems a direct result of Jeremiah's Spring Tour.

The ammo being used against Obama has been provided by him.

This is the Repub Machine he's running against. The guys who made Max Cleland go down in flames.

My first impression of him in NH was that he's a smooth speaker but not tough enough to withstand the campaign. Let's see if I'm correct or wrong.
