My first computer was a C-64. Much of my current prosperity is owed to it.

But, no, Commodore did NOT own Apple.

But, no, Commodore did NOT own Apple.

Apple was still using monochrome monitors. They didn't have 64 k. Their sound was equivalent to what you would find on a telephone keybad. That is why it became the worlds best selling computer. Still is.

Then there was the Amiga. Did you ever own one of those?

I have an old house to renovate in Schenectady, NY coming up. It's part of the deceased owner's estate and will be sold. Anyway, in the basement is a box of those with printers, external drives, etc. I bet it fetches a few $ on ebay.

Tagline space for rent.

Sorry, I misinterpreted your post.

The Apple II+ came with 48k of RAM and, I believe 4 or 8 colors and a tone generator for beeps and sounds. The C-64 had 64k and 16 colors. It also had a 4-voices Yamaha music chip.

The Apple's disks were A LOT faster than Commodore's. I believe they were a bit smaller too. Also, the Apple had Visicalc and a number of good word processors and other business apps. The C-64 never had a usable spreadsheet and never made it into a small business office, like the Apples did. While it had fewer colors, I believe that the Apple supported a higher resolution and 80-column text.

I never had an Amiga. My second computer was an Atari 1040ST. After that... PC compatibles.

The Apples were trying to compete with the IBM PC's and failed. The C-64 were competing with the Ataris and the C-64 won in their market niche but I don't believe that the Apples and the C-64s were really at each other's throats.
