I have to be honest, I'm completely distressed at what's happened to this forum. The fighting and the distrust between those for and those against Obama has gotten to the point where, in my opinion, it's destroying the forum. What's the point of having an open free speech venue when everyone is bozo'ing everyone else?

When I read my mission statement and what Freedom4um was created to be, I don't even recognize the place anymore. There will be changes made in the near future as I decide what is best for the continued growth of this forum.

Chrissy, my opinion: I don't think 4um itself is being destroyed. There may have been accusations of 4um being an echo chamber way back in the old days. Obviously, that accusation cannot be made now.

Disagreement is one of the main points of a forum. Sure it may mean some people go, but new people come. That's normal. That's healthy.

I agree that I would not have supposed that the R&D election cycle would bring this kind of discord here. But then again, maybe it's doing a service by bringing more that we really are out. If so, that may be uncomfortable, but that doesn't mean it's wrong or unhealthy forum-wise. It's not the point of 4um to mold any of us into something we aren't. Certainly that's not going to happen except for those individuals that allow themselves to change.

Please take heart that that's how it should be.

your point isn't valid, Neil, when everyone is employing the bozo and the level of distrust by the two opposing sides is the killer.

I don't expect you to grasp this, but.......the Os are apparently employing the bozo in what appears to be a coordinated attempt to damage 4um's freedom message. If you have concern for our 1st Amendment (we know your position on the 2nd), you'd act with some degree of consideration toward the owner.

"Disagreement is one of the main points of a forum. Sure it may mean some people go, but new people come. That's normal. That's healthy."

Problem is, if we all ignore variant viewpoints, you get a bunch of folks posting past each other and threads lose what used to make threads interesting...rational debate!!

I think I'm with you, Neil, about the folks not changing unless they are prepared to change. I realize many of my fellow 4umers are part of the ObamaNation and there's nothing I can say to change that. More power to them!!

But if they are free to post, immune to comments and questions from those who may disagree with their viewpoints, what find of 4um is THAT?! It becomes a propoganda center. Heck, I could become a Paulbot and become quite annoying rather quickly...LOL!! If I wanna spew Ron Paul propoganda, I oughtta at least be willing to defend his views on-Forum...MUD

Agree completely, Neil.

The members wanted the bozo filter, and then you added the ignore thread feature here (as an added bonus) so if people don't want to post or participate here; fine.

There are no fundraisers or fees to join, and everyone is here because they wish to be here.

Don't change a thing.

Disagreement is one of the main points of a forum

I kind of tend to agree with that.

I was surprised at the bitterness some like to have to those they disagree with on this issue. The way I view it is that we shouldn't even think so much of the whole system of selecting leaders to let us get upset at each other over it.

When I first realized that some traditionally conservative people were going for Obama because they saw hope in him I told them I was happy that they were happy about it. Its nice to have hope on a day-to-day basis.

Then later I concluded since Obama changed his web site and promised to withdraw a lot of troops in 16 months I decided that at least since he was differentiating himself from the other 2, then at least for the sake of telling the rest of the world that we are not war-mongers, then maybe it would be a good idea to vote for Obama just for that 1 reason.

Its not like our election system has a track record of success, so why get so upset over it? How can we expect to always agree on every detail?

as if a group of people on this 4um who differ from you are really so significant. they're not significant, no reason to get upset.

you want the forum to grow? Better accept diversity. someone calls you a communist or a racist, be thick-skinned over it. and remember that other person's only doing it because he/she has nothing better to do.

the way to make the forum grow is to put links up to it on other forums, especially at newspaper comment sections. if 2 or 3 people would diligently do that regularly, the forum would grow.
