I have to be honest, I'm completely distressed at what's happened to this forum. The fighting and the distrust between those for and those against Obama has gotten to the point where, in my opinion, it's destroying the forum. What's the point of having an open free speech venue when everyone is bozo'ing everyone else? When I read my mission statement and what Freedom4um was created to be, I don't even recognize the place anymore. There will be changes made in the near future as I decide what is best for the continued growth of this forum.

I come here to read about health/financial/gardening material as a general rule, and couldn't care less about Obama/McCain/Clinton (although I am STILL following Paul's "campaign", just to see how many people vote against McCain). All I really want to know is...where do I report to for that spanking that 'critter' mentioned? :-)
You have disruptors here. The bozo use is a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself. It allows freedom of association. I use the filter to make the latest comment pages useable for me. Like for example, in the morning, Kamala posts lots and lots of informative threads. They aren't breaking news or necessarily news I want to read right then, so I filter them out. I ban from my view the proven stupid and spammers and disruptors and those who get their panties in a knot over Obama. I even banned cynicom once or twice because he made me want to pull my hair out. Mudboy Slim and VRWC are the same disruptors here that they were in the other forums. FOH is a disruptor as well. And there are operatives. They're more difficult to weed out. People can filter them or not. People should know that Private Mails are not secure. It sure was distressing to see Neil (Webmaster) jump in on that one thread accusing people who weren't supporting Obama to be akin to murderers. And he was uncharacteristically rude. Who knows if it's Neil or not or where he's really coming from? So yeah, you have problems here. Banning the obvious trolls is entirely appropriate. What seems to be happening is a hijacking of the forum by Obamaphiles and operatives using the filter to limit their discussion group. But what harm does that do unless there's lots of 'em? No real harm...I mean how many times can you post rah-rah Obama? If the others like Jethro Tull and peppa would use some restraint from baiting them and keeping those threads alive, some of the crap would die down. People here are intelligent enough to see who's who and what their agenda is. I suggest to do nothing but the bare minimum. The trolls are showing themselves and those paying attention can adjust accordingly.
And what of the gaps in the thread the subject of the bozo would see? You don't see gaps if someone has you on bozo. Only if you have someone else on bozo. The whole problem is people looking at their bozo count and freaking out. If they can't see how many people have them on bozo, no problem.

ghost... Odd you of all people should use the term "paranoia".
So we can then assume unanswered posts directed at someone who has another on bozo is simply an act of rudeness? If people aren't satisfied w/more than a handful of bozo's, coupled w/ a civility-stalking requirement, then satisfaction here isn't possible. IMVHO.

yes, it is. Is it possible to code far fewer slots into the bozo list? yes, it is possible and i think this is the best solution/compromise.

I think keeping people's bozo count secret would be better. The real problem here seems to be people freaking out because a lot of people have them on bozo. If you took the count off the filter page, they would never know if someone had them on bozo. They could just assume that nobody did. People could then avoid harassment and insults by using the bozo and those on the receiving end would be none the wiser.

I agree with this completely. I have also known Neil for a long time, almost from the inception of Liberty Post. While I have never had the pleasure of meeting him in person I do believe Neil to be honest and trustworthy and I would not worry for one minute about him reading my pm's (almost all of which I wouldn't even care to post on the board). And Neil CAN'T prove a negative but then neither can anyone else. For whatever it's worth I think Neil is a good man and one I am proud to call my friend.

I kind of tend to agree with that. I was surprised at the bitterness some like to have to those they disagree with on this issue. The way I view it is that we shouldn't even think so much of the whole system of selecting leaders to let us get upset at each other over it. When I first realized that some traditionally conservative people were going for Obama because they saw hope in him I told them I was happy that they were happy about it. Its nice to have hope on a day-to-day basis. Then later I concluded since Obama changed his web site and promised to withdraw a lot of troops in 16 months I decided that at least since he was differentiating himself from the other 2, then at least for the sake of telling the rest of the world that we are not war-mongers, then maybe it would be a good idea to vote for Obama just for that 1 reason. Its not like our election system has a track record of success, so why get so upset over it? How can we expect to always agree on every detail? as if a group of people on this 4um who differ from you are really so significant. they're not significant, no reason to get upset. you want the forum to grow? Better accept diversity. someone calls you a communist or a racist, be thick-skinned over it. and remember that other person's only doing it because he/she has nothing better to do. the way to make the forum grow is to put links up to it on other forums, especially at newspaper comment sections. if 2 or 3 people would diligently do that regularly, the forum would grow.

If liberalism is an amalgamation of socialism and communism, and you profess to be a liberal, then your participation at DU, KOS and HuffPo makes complete sense. Your attempt to blend that dogma into what is ostensibly a freedon4um is bewildering, tho.
Neil, this is the first I have heard of this (and of course I haven't read every thread that has been posted here). Is it true that you accused people who don't support Obama--which most certainly includes me but then I don't support ANY statist whore as anyone who knows me already knows--to be akin to murderers? I find that pretty hard to believe and if you said that I would like to hear your explanation. As I said in the only other post I have made to this thread I consider you a friend and that is why I find it hard to believe that you would even think such a thing, let alone post it. My own personal disclaimer: I see some people here who don't seem to like each other for one reason or another and it is distressing to me because I like all of them. For instance, I like Peppa, FOH and Neil. I think they are all good people. But because I like all of them doesn't mean they all have to like each other. I won't be like Rodney King and ask if we can't all just get along because I know that, human nature being what it is, that we probably all can't "just get along." But all of you who don't like the others so much, or to put another way, if your dislike is so intense, the bozo filter is a good option. You don't have to see what someone has said if you don't like them and it may make your time here more enjoyable.

I take you at your word, but as I have personally experienced Free Republic reading and monitoring mine, I always assume in forum mail as a less secure form of mail them that even in a POP account, or any other form of 'free' Internet mail service. I also would never type in some of what I have to say regarding politics in any computer that links to the net, and any box used off net never keeps it's drive in it when it is off and cold.

c) I don't believe for one second that Neil McIver has ever has read PM's, aside from any sent to him or any involved in software/database problems. Regardless, should he need to, Neil McIver is one of the few people I would trust to read my PM's. If I had a forum I wouldn't hesitate to give Neil the keys.
