AZ Sheriff Tells Illegals To Get Out Of Town

By KTAR Newsroom

5-4-8

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio still isn't saying when he will take his crime suppression patrols to Mesa.

He says there's a reason for the delay -- he's giving illegal immigrants a chance to get out of town.

``I'm giving them a chance to pack up and leave, so when I do go in there, there may not be a big problem," he said.

If an illegal immigrant needs a ride, Arpaio says, ``Call 602-876-1000 and we'll make arrangements. Maybe we'll even pick them up."

Mesa Police Chief George Gascon has asked the sheriff for two days notice before he does his patrols in Mesa, and Arpaio said he will give police notice.

In the meantime, ``The only message I can give to the people here illegally is to pack up, take a bus, go back. If they want a free ride, they can always call me... I'll be glad to take care of them, especially those in Mesa. If they want to go back home, I'll be glad to help them. Maybe I won't have any problems to enforce when I decide to go to Mesa."

Arpaio's Mesa patrols will follow patrols at two Phoenix locations where day laborers gather and in the predominantly-Hispanic town of Guadalupe on the Phoenix-Tempe border. Critics have attacked the patrols as racial profiling. Arpaio denies that and says he just looking for criminals.

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and others have asked the federal government to investigate the patrols.

Some say we can't give car rides to every illegal, but what about carpooling?

here's another story in a local paper about this.

www.eastvalleytribune.com/s tory/115493

Here's what's happening. We have this horrible sheriff named Joe Arpaio. I say he's horrible because of the way he does his job. He requires his detention officers to be systematically disrespectful to prisoners. They are treated like garbage and he programs this into the management of the whole jail system which is Sheriff Joe's main job. Sheriff joe came to a big parade in downtown phoenix with prisoners dressed in the outrageous uniforms he has for them and in chains, chains around both legs & arms, and in turn the chain extending to Joe's hand. and he sat in the front seat of his Cadillac convertible with the top down, and the prisoner was in the back seat but sitting on top of the car and legs dangling into the seat. So the prisoner was elevated and as they drove on the parade route at 5 MPH it was like Sheriff joe showing off his captives. This is the guy's personality. They've had many prisoners die in the jails due to mis-treatment/abuse/incompetence and this has cost something like a hundred million dollars in court suits since Joe's been there. Thats why I say he's a horrible sheriff. on top of that he pays himself & his top buddies very lavishly while the detention officers barely get by. He's got a public relations person for the sheriff's office and then he's got another public relations person just for him and he ends up getting on tv all over the world. He goes to europe to make speeches he gets paid for, arranged for by the public relations officer paid full-time by the taxpayers. This is the kind of guy he is.

But then he's the only local official trying to arrest illegal immigrants and send them back. so quite a controversy is occurring as a result. The mexican community is agitating with other politicians to oppose Sheriff Joe. and many white politicians are standing up and opposing Joe as a result.

The state legislature is passing a bill to bring mexicans in as indentured servants. But the local mexican consulate has a list of many illegal immigrants who live here and all they're going to do is legalize some illegal workers presently by making them indentured servants.

Think of Sheriff Joe as being like Rosie O'Donnel. People don't like him but they are sympathetic to stopping illegal immigration. Sheriff Joe is used as the big symbol of a leader who will stop illegal immigration, yet he's strongly disliked for other reasons.

we're being un-done, this is par for the course.

it is shocking to see the white mayor of Phoenix Phil Gordon meeting with local mexican leaders and then criticizing Arpaio for what he's done. Here in Arizona the white politicians are beginning to line up in support of the Mexicans. and Joe Arpaio is used as the bad guy to lead the nativists. Meanwhile the state legislature prepares the way for more mexican immigrants working as indentured servants. and all the groups against the illegal immigration are supposed to line up behind Arpaio's circus and forget about what the state legislature is doing.
