As expected, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has solidly won the North Carolina primary, ABC News projects, while he and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, remain locked in a tight race in Indiana. Nearly unanimous support among African-Americans, who accounted for a third of voters in North Carolina, lifted Obama to easy victory, according to preliminary exit poll results. About 91 percent of African American voters in N.C. supported Obama. The Illinois senator also benefited from a surge of new voters; 18 percent in North Carolina said it was their first time voting in a primary, and they favored him by a vast 68-26 percent. Meanwhile, it's too early to call the race in Indiana. The Hoosier State is seen as Clinton's best chance for victory, with demographics similar to Ohio and Pennsylvania -- states she has won in the past -- but Obama remains competitive in Indiana, a state that borders his homestate of Illinois. The former first lady has planned a victory rally in an Indianapolis hotel ballroom tonight. Political watchers argue a double victory for Obama tonight could sway undecided superdelegates and increase pressure on Clinton to step out of the race. The former first lady trails Obama in the delegate count, the popular vote, and in the number of states won. "If Clinton doesn't win Indiana you wonder how she moves on after that," said Peri Arnold, a political science professor at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind. However a win for Clinton will undoubtably fuel her argument that Obama's failure to reach white, blue-collar workers in states like Indiana could be a detriment in the general election fight against presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. "Unless one of them is able to win both of these states, I think we're going to have a continuation of the status quo," said Bill Carrick, a Democratic strategist unaffiliated with either candidate. Indiana Primary Potentially Decisive Battling to the end, the exhausted rivals urged North Carolina and Indiana voters to the polls Tuesday, each hoping to shake up a Democratic race that has gone on longer than anyone expected.

One thing that Hilly did (or DIDN'T do) and I actually watched for that - she NEVER thanked her supporters in the states she lost. She almost never even mentioned the states she lost. I found that to be very bad manners. In fact, I'll say it, I found that to be disgusting.

I noticed her ingratitude during the super-Tuesday primaries because my wife mentioned it - she's into good manners. After that, there was a string of 10 Obama victories and, after every defeat, Hillary would sweet talk the NEXT state she was going to compete and NEVER mention the state that she was just losing or thank those who supported her there.

Obama crushed Hillary in NC, but it seems right now Hillary won in Indiana easily. Ron Paul, 7/8%.

And what was the context? You do realize that the 7% white is impossible. It does seem to be true that Obama got 90% of blacks in both NC and Indiana but he can't win 65% in NC and 46% at this time in Indiana with 7% of the white vote. Indiana is some 96% White, I believe.

I'm not following. The comment was related to NC and those numbers were mentioned. Why couldn't he win 9 out of 10 black votes in NC?
He DID win 9 out of 10 black votes in NC. But you also stated that he only won 7% of the White votes there. This is mathematically impossible because the blacks in NC make up only one third of the Demo party and Obama has 63% of the overall vote at this time. If he won 7% of the White vote and 90% of the Blacks, then Obama would have: 29% from Blacks (90% of 33%) and See how absurd this is?

The fact that Obama got over 91% of the black vote which was 33% of all voters in NC is the reason why. He only got aprox. 42% of the rest of the remaining vote.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what RickyJ said. The fact is that suggesting that Obama only got 7% of Whites is such an obvious BS, even a 3d grader could have done the math and figured out it was impossible.

I expected Obama to win IN, I thought most of the Democrats I know were hip to Hillary, and also assumed they were representative of Democrats in same demographic bracket{s} throughout the state.

I just heard on the radio that the county that Indiana University is in has been going 2-1 for Obama, and has only reported 43% of its votes.

FYI - in INDIANA, Obama got 39% of White babes, according to CNN. Your Obama getting 7% of White men is incorrect.

The racial makeup of the county is 80.11% White, 6.94% Black Which means no chance dude. There are not that many white guilters out there.
