It wasn't. The alleged statements include some fictional "quotes" and some bastardized "quotes." FIRST, the FICTIONAL quotes: The 1985 thesis, entitled Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community, was written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn. There is NO occurrence of the word hatred in the thesis. There is NO occurrence of the word ineradicably in the thesis. There is ONE occurrence of the word racism in the thesis. It appears within the cited title of a source publication in footnote 1 on page 7: "1 Pierre van den Berghe, Race and Racism, (New York: Wiley), 1967: p. 35" Her maiden name was Michelle Robinson. Her middle name was, and remains, LaVaughan. Her signature on the thesis is "Michelle Robinson." The full printed name is Michelle LaVaughan Robinson. An attack paragraph states: She seems to justify those feelings with what she claims to see on the other side of the issue: Predominantly white universities like Princeton are socially and academically designed to cater to the needs of the white students, comprising the bulk of their enrollments. Michelle added in her thesis that to whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, [I] will always be black first. Another attack paragraph states: Findings show that some respondents did experience a change in their attitudes over the periods of time indicated in this study. By studying respondents who did change, it was shown that respondents' experiences while attending Princeton caused their identification with Blacks and the Black community to increase as their identification with Whites and the White community decreased. However, after Princeton, respondents' experienced the opposite change in attitude; their identification with Blacks and the Black community decreased as their identification with Whites and [63] ----- the White community increased. Thus, these findings suggest that respondents who experience change as a result of their Princeton experiences are likely to identify less with Blacks and the Black community in comparison to Whites and the Whites community. It is important to note that it is impossible for me to generalize these findings for all Black Princeton alumni because the sample for this study was much too small to make any kind of generalizations. Therefore, I am only able to draw conclusions from these findings for the respondents to my questionnaire. This is brought to all as a public service to educate the Oh. And on the Cindy blamed knee and back pain, and the pressure of the Keating Five scandal. Aw heck, there's no pressure in the White House. Cindy could talk about her drug addiction. But her income tax returns - now that's just getting too private. The Michelle Obama thesis is available online in four parts at Politico since February. Johan Goldberg noted on 2/19/2008 that Princeton would not release it. Politico contacted the Obama campaign and the Obama campaign released it by 2/22/2008. ... Her maiden name was Michelle Robinson. Her middle name was, and remains, LaVaughan. Her signature on the thesis is "Michelle Robinson." The full printed name is Michelle LaVaughan Robinson. Ok, the person drafting the hit piece deliberately misstated the name. Along with the misquotes came an allegation that the thesis has been pulled from public view. And as someone noted yesterday, anyone can walk into the Princeton library and view a thesis. So it looks like the person who did this not only misquoted Obama's wife, they garbled the maiden name to make it more difficult for someone to obtain a copy of the thesis to fact check them. I'm not sure, but it looks like they also floated the "thesis pulled" story to explain why the thesis was not available under the name they published. Pretty sleazy. What's next? An allegation that Michelle Obama killed Vince Foster?
I was the one who noted that. I'm a Princeton graduate. I wrote a senior thesis. I remember being told at the time that my thesis would be available to the public and that anyone could come to the Princeton University library and ask to see it. I believe I remember being told that this was standard practice for all Princeton senior theses.

Yes, and I remember an allegation yesterday that the Michelle Obama thesis had been "pulled" and was not available. I believe this was in one of the two articles noted above, but I will have to double check. And the thesis would appear to have be unavailable if a fact checker used the name the author of the hit piece gave. And this garbling of the name has to be deliberate as the name would be on the thesis. Either that, or the author didn't read the thesis before writing the hit piece. The attacks are beginning to sound more and more Clintonesque. How long until we hear breathless stories about Michelle Obama having sex with aliens at the Mena airport?
