I have a vivid memory from my youth at the first hearing of this tune. I agonized in the record section of the local grocery store between "Bayou Country" and Pink Floyd's "Umaguma (SP)", neither of which I had heard. I opted for Creedence.

I put the thing on our console stereo that night with lights out, and stared into that little red 'on' light on the machine. "Born on the Bayou" started. Good Lord -- I *still* get the same feeling when I hear that tune. I didn't know it was 'swamp rock' or 'rootsy', or whatever. It was just an Americana assault on my limited top 40 sensibilties. It was brilliant.

JC Fogerty was so ahead of (or behind) his times it ain't even funny. Drummer Kenny Aronoff, who later played with Fogerty, opined that Fogerty's voice was that of the Hulk in the comic books he was reading. Apt.

Barry Obama -- In your heart, you know he's wrong.

Oh man, OF... can you ever tell a story I can picture!

I HEAR YOU!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what it is either, but you hit it.

I liked Pink Floyed too, but would opt for CCR any day. I love Fogerty's voice, and the music, well, ROOTSY... Don't know if you care much for Chris Rea, but he sort of has that same voice that just 'connects'. Actually, that voice gives me the vapors, but lets not let it get around. ;)

I recently made the perfect DVD combo: Freedom to Fascism, Keep and Bear Arms, Zeitgeist II & III. I removed the credits so it plays straight through for four hours. It is outstanding and I offer it free to any and all. I think I can afford to say that.

Amen to that.

Can't find a decent version of Run Through the Jungle. Painful, but a great song.
