Nine teachers will tour holocaust sites to better indoctrinate young children.
NINE TENNESSEE teachers leave Sunday for a 13-day study of Holocaust-related sites across Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic to bring a more authentic voice to the students they teach.
Sponsored largely by the Tennessee Holocaust Commission (THC), the teachers will be accompanied by well-known Holocaust scholars as well as meet survivors and liberators.
There is nothing that can take the place of actually being there, Smyrna Middle School teacher Linda Newman said.
Teaching a three-and-a-half week unit on the Holocaust to seventh graders has been Newmans passion for nearly 20 years.
She plans to document her trip with tape recorders and cameras to bring her students as close as possible to a first-person encounter with what happened.
