Title: New revealing Starbucks logo has group screaming 'Slutbucks!'

Seems that one person's smut is another person's morning latte.

A Christian group out of San Diego has found grounds for outrage over the new retro-style logo for Starbucks Coffee.

The Resistance says the new image (www.startribune.com/a4390) "has a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute," Mark Dice, founder of the group, said in a news release. "Need I say more? It's extremely poor taste, and the company might as well call themselves Slutbucks."

The group, which claims more than 3,000 members nationwide and has found a place on the fringe advancing various conspiracy theories, is calling for a national boycott of the coffee-selling giant.

Messages have been left with the company seeking reaction to the objections and an explanation for the strategy behind the logo change.

Business Week said the logo will run on Starbucks cups for about eight weeks but will live on in ads and as the logo for Pike Place bags of coffee.

The logo is a less-revealing throw-back version of what the chain used for many years starting when it first opened in Seattle in 1971. Business Week reports that this original logo was resurrected for a time in 2006 to mark the chain's 35th anniversary.

The explanation for that initial logo design is explained in the book "Pour Your Heart into It : How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time," written by company founder Howard Schultz:

"[Creative partner Terry Heckler] poured [sic] over old marine books until he came up with a logo based on an old sixteenth-century Norse woodcut: a two-tailed mermaid, or siren, encircled by the store's original name, Starbucks Coffee, Tea, and Spice. That early siren, bare-breasted and Rubenesque, was supposed to be as seductive as coffee itself."

I think they are just using it to sell a product, not because they appreciate feminine beauty.

Here is his board www.theresistancemanif esto.com/modules.php? name=Forums&file=index I used to post there. It's not exactly active.

The last time I was in Starbucks, I left a $10 bill for two vente-sized, special blended, somtehings. I think a wedge of lemon cake tagged along for the Mrs. I'll stay with home brew.

I like going out to get coffee. But I go to local shops like 'The Wandering Goat' or 'The Sweet Life' and drink black brewed coffee that is 1.50 for the 16 oz size, or a dollar if you bring your own mug which I always do.

I would never, ever go to Starbucks.

How silly. Truth be told, their logo should have a picture of someone's ass on it because their coffee tastes like shit.

The neighborhood Einstein Bros. Bagel store has a fine coffee selection, 'bottomless cup' policy, fill your mug for a dollar, I give them a two dollar bill every morning.

They have to have something to make them feel morally superior. Just having faith in their religion isn't enough.

Please don't tell me the guy was a jerkwad. Community Coffee is outstanding and I'd hate to learn someone who makes something that good is a prick.

It's too bad Community Coffee never broke away from being a regional brand. I can tell you this, it's head over heels better than anything made by Starbucks.

The older I get, the less I understand "Christian" groups getting outraged over the image of a nude female, one of God's most perfect creations.

But it's OK to kill a million people cuz the Mooselums is a comin' to git'em.

It's OK to have images glorifying mass murder and they are unmoved by images of the suffering and bloodshed of innocents from the wars they support.

They also supported the murder and pillage in Vietnam.

Those who claim to follow the "Prince of Peace" and then support torture, murder, and mayhem while turning a blind eye to Israel's genocide of the Palestinians are simply insane hypocrites.

I try very hard not to hate them, but it is an exercise in will power to remain true to my moral principles.

"The difference between an honorable man and a moral man is that an honorable man regrets a discreditable act even when it has worked and he is in no danger of being caught." ~ H. L. Mencken
