Title: BHO, in another gaffe, says NAD-hero dictator Chavez siezed power post '01

Will Media Report Obama's Gaffe About When Hugo Chavez Came to Power?

By Noel Sheppard | May 25, 2008 - 15:14 ET

Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama made another gaffe on the campaign trail Friday when he suggested at a luncheon hosted by the Cuban American National Foundation that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez came to power while George W. Bush was in the White House.

Chavez was first elected president in 1998, and reelected in 2000, both occurring while Bill Clinton was serving his second term.

This was not the only gaffe Obama made in Florida Friday, for at another campaign stop, the junior senator from Illinois several times referred to the city of Sunrise as "Sunshine." This comes a week after calling Sioux Falls, South Dakota, "Sioux City," and two weeks after saying that America has 57 states.

Will Obama-loving media ever cover these gaffes?

While you ponder, here's the text of Obama's mistake concerning Chavez (video embedded upper right, relevant section begins at minute 2:50, h/t LGF):

Story Continues Below Ad [5; Since the Bush Administration launched a misguided war in Iraq, its policy in the Americas has been negligent toward our friends, ineffective with our adversaries, disinterested in the challenges that matter in peoples’ lives, and incapable of advancing our interests in the region. No wonder, then, that demagogues like Hugo Chavez have stepped into this vacuum.

Are these gaffes ever going to get reported?

This is a presidential election, and the man who is likely to be the Democrat nominee doesn't seem to know how many states are in our union, what city he's in when he's campaigning, or when our enemies came to power.

Isn't this newsworthy?

After all, if McCain made these errors on the stump, media would be claiming it to be early signs of Alzheimer's, and that would be the end of his campaign.

Those interested in more on the differences between how the press cover Democrat and Republican gaffes should read Michelle Malkin's fabulous piece on this subject from last Wednesday.

Poster Comment: BHO is an empty suit, who is able to capitalize on decades of multicultural indoctrination. If he were white, Hillary would be the D nominee.

My first clue was about a year ago when there was a Chavez thread going, and many were cheering for Hugo etc

I have to admit to having been taken in at the beginning. I fell off track for a spell. My hatred for BushInc was such that I didn't see the enemy here on my LEFT flank. I do now.

Yes, but if Venezuela were our 51st state, all that revenue would belong to the United States of America, if it retained the same ownership model it has now, and the USA would be very close to energy self-sufficiency by the mere fact it controlled those reserves.

Why do you think "we" invaded Iraq? Aside from doing Israel's bidding, the main (and continuing) reason is to loot it of its crude oil over the next several decades.

Obama gets a lot of free passes from the media, but so does McCain. Mad Mac didn't know the difference between a Shi'ite and Sunni Muslim, and that barely got a mention. And that was from a candidate who always talks about how strong in foreign policy he's supposed to be.

The only time a candidate is really savaged by the MSM for these kinds of gaffes is when they don't have the stamp of establishment approval. I knew that Mad Mac's "Straight Talk Express" was the Bullshit Express from the amount of support he got from the MSM, just like I know that BHO's talk about "change" is a load of bunk. If Mad Mac were really a "straight talking maverick" and BHO were a real "outsider bringing real change," they'd be ignored or ripped to pieces by the press, not promoted.

I don't have any sympathy for Communists of any stripe, but I also think that if a sovereign nation wants or has a Communist government, that's their business. It's not the job of the US military and US taxpayer to overthrow the dictators of other countries or to engage in "nation building."

So if the people of Venezuela have a "commie" in power or the people of Iran have a Koran-thumping nut in power, that's their business or their problem. We have enough trouble with our own corrupt government and our own religious nuts.

And you can hardly blame people in other countries for supporting dictators, whatever their ideology or however corrupt they are, who refuse to be puppets of the US these days.

I think some posted on that You Go Hugo thread - myself included -because it was fun to hear Hugo saying the outrageously insulting things he did to Dubya - fullfilling everyone's secret fantasies. The speech to the UN about Hugo feeling the coldness of the Devil walking by was the best. Ha!

Although no doubt there were probably some posters who may have admired Hugo's politics perhaps.

My all time Great Hope fantasy was for Hugo to challenge our Fearless Leader to a mano-e-mano rumble. hee hee

Hugo of course is a genuine for real army paratrooper whereas Shrub's military past amounts to being a human mannequin who wore a too tight flight suit one day for a photo shoot on a navy ship.

Would that not be a funny fight to watch? How many seconds do you think it would take before Fearless Leader would wet his flight suit and the referee would need to call off the rumble of the ages?

There are not many of the closet collectivists left here at 4um. The few here found a safe haven of sorts. These socialists found refuge here the last couple years because of the relentless ripping on the Bush administration.

I think some equated that with a more leftist view point of most here at 4um. To the "surprise" of these commies, most here don't buy into the fraud of the two party system.

Their straw man argument is, if you rip on Obama, then you MUST support Hillery or McCain. Since most here support neither party, their argument falls to pieces. It just blows their minds that most are what they have stated they are, true independent constitutionalists.

you nailed it, Mark.

vast, what don't you democrats get about us not harping on the sins of hillary and mccain/bush when we've been doing that for the last 8 yrs, for some 16, if you include the clinton years. so drop that talking point. it only makes you look silly and desperate.

christine  posted on  2008-05-26   14:36:36 ET  Reply   Trace   Private Reply

#59. To: christine (#58)

Christine, could you be a bit more specific on what I am 'desperate' about? Is there something that I stand to lose or... what is it? Silly, I understand. It's a subjective observation and everyone is entitled to subjectivity - that being the only way most if not all of us relate to reality. But 'desperate'? It's a very powerful concept describing a state of mind that brings in my head images of Greek (or, like W would say... Grecian) tragedies.

On you calling me 'you democrats', I must admit that I am still registered with the Demos. I did so a couple of months ago because I wanted to vote for Obama, which I did. I also wrote in my kids and my deceased dog for other positions. I am likely to stay a registered demo until I feel like I wish to vote in some other party's primary. But, if you wish to call me 'you democrats', I have no problem with that. Party membership in the USA means little to me. I stood my ground when joining or not joining something like 'the communist party' was a public act and doing one or the other meant submission and public humiliation or proud but very risky independence. The US political process, on the other hand, it's a silly carnival and it's fun observing it and joining the silliness from time to time. There is little risk and, for anyone not close to the inner circles, there's no reward either way.

Talking about silliness... all these threads on... Obama not counting the states right or... God forbid, not recalling when exactly Chavez came to power for the second time or his relationship with his neighbors or the guys his mother dated... I don't know how to call that. Maximum silliness maybe? No... that would be to light a term. How about absolute-bottom dumbness? You might not have noticed, but I participated on this thread because the content appealed to me as mildly entertaining. That should be obvious. I hope no one thought that I was seriously or angrily calling JT a 'metro-sexualist' and I never assumed that he seriously thought that I was swimming to work.

And, talking about my late dog, I wrote in for state attorney general, is everyone aware that DOG spelled backwards reads GOD? It's troubling but it's also true! Try it.

First of all, I do not do collective labeling. I might have used terms as 'ophiles' and 'ophobes' but, if you noticed that those are funny words, you would have concluded that I'm only doing it to point at the absurdity of some 'debates'.

It is true that I did ask JT - who is frantically and constantly providing articles criticizing the minutia of Obama's associations or memory lapses and presenting them as evidence of his treason, racism or worse - to indicate if he was equally criticizing Hillary or McCain. That was a reasonable line of inquiry, given that JT is one of those who (falsely) claim that there is not one iota of difference between the 3 'major' candidates to the US presidency. If they are equally terrible, I would expect that he would equally help us understand how terrible each of the three was. He confirmed that he is not criticizing McCain or Hillary, which makes me suspect that he probably loves them. He said that he's not criticizing them because they are senior politicians while Obama is new and Black. This is a very stupid argument. It's like, let's say, Lieberman declared himself as an independent candidate for the US presidency, no one should bother criticizing him because he was an old politician. Or no one should have discussed Ron Paul because he'd been politics for 20-30 years already.

I copied JT, since I described his argument that senior politicians should not be criticized as 'stupid'.

His support comes from people getting to know the contents of his character and the man inside. Voting for a mere icon as you claim people are doing does not build or stay this sustained as his run for the White House has been.

All you have with your guilt label is an empty concept that will be swept away profoundly with the Obama presidency.
