Turtle will never assume anything again. As the old cliche goes, when you do that, you make an ass of you and me.

I made an hour and a half international call to the Philippines. Never made one before. Just dialed it on my home phone.

The phone bill came in today. $700. I told them no, never, I'll settle for $50.

Let's see what they say. I just moved and had that phone turned off, and now have a cellphone, so they'll never get the money. I don't care if they put it on my credit, they'll never see a cent.

Are you serious? Seven hundred dollars for ONE phone call? Even a phone call of an hour and a half, that sounds pretty extreme.

I kid you not, that's what my ATT bill read. I have had no trouble with ATT ever except for this.

I think when they realize what happened they'll settle.

I was in a state of shock for several hours. I could not believe my bill.

There is a program you can get for your computer called skype (and it's free) that would let you talk to whoever you wanted to talk to in the Phillipines assuming they have it too. And there are others--google talk, another one called beebo I think and there could be some I haven't heard of.

I use Skype, but it means sitting at the computer with a headphone and microphone. Instead, I went outside on the deck at 7 am Sunday morning and called from the cordless phone.

Next thing I know, a $700 bill. They'll never see a cent of it.

The woman I called just moved to the Philippines for a job, so I called to say hello.

Strangely, the number on the bill is not the number I called, even though it does say "Philippines." I have no idea what happened, but I wrote ATT a long letter.

I don't call 800 numbers to talk to people. I always get somebody in India or -- ha ha--the Philippines, using a fake name and reading from a script.

I wonder what ATT's response will be.

I don't know how they could justify a bill for 700 bucks if you had called and talked all day. That is ridiculous.
