Barr campaign to white supremacists: ‘Don’t let the door hit you on the way out’

Monday, June 2, 2008, 04:34 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Libertarian blogs are reporting that Bob Barr is having it out with the same group of white supremacists who sullied Ron Paul’s Republican presidential campaign.

A pair of web sites, including something called Stormfront.org, on Monday ran an endorsement of Barr by James Buchanan:

“A vote for Bob Barr would at least send a message to the Republican Party that conservatives and Whites won’t sit still as they are stuck with a liberal presidential candidate like McCain.”

David Weigel at Reason.com offers this bit of essential background on Libertarian politics, and why that endorsement struck a nerve:

One of the bigger media blunders the Ron Paul campaign made was its handling of endorsements from the bigots at Stormfront. White nationalists slithered around the fringes of the Paul movement, and Paul refused to return a donation from Stormfronter Don Black on the grounds that he’d rather the money be spent on the Paul campaign than spent by racists.

Thirdpartywatch.com reports Barr campaign manager Russ Verney is having none of it. He immediately issued this statement:

”The Barr campaign is not going to be a vehicle for every fringe and hate group to promote itself.

“We do not want and will not accept the support of haters. Tell the haters I said don’t let the door hit you on the backside on your way out!

“Anyone with love in their heart for our country and for every resident of our country regardless of race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation is welcome with open arms.”

I am sorry to see that Bob Barr chose to be a divisive candidate and robotically reject the support of some fine Americans while his campaign regurgitates a ton of PC-like cliches about sexual orientation, race and the color of one's undies. The way the rejection was staged shows lack of class.

Can you believe this? It looks like Bob Barr's campaign is for the residents who love all residents, regardless of anything. Sadly, the Barr campaigners seem to have very little love for the residents who stand for voluntary race-based segregation. This would have the Bob Barr campaign in fact exclude itself from the campaign.

Even though I very likely to vote for Obama in November, I also feel love and empathy for the so-called 'White supremacists'. This should place me in the first percentile of open-mindedness, diversitness and inclusiveness.

There seems to be a systematic effort underway to undermine the effectiveness of party politics. The disgruntled New Yorker who was unhappy at being unable to participate in the Democratic rules meeting is just one more example. Barr seems highly unlikely as a libertarian having voted for the Patriot Act. It seems they could do a lot better. But like the DNC and the GOP, they're not. Honestly speaking I can't quite come to terms with Chuck Baldwin, either. The Constitution Party should be leading the way against the TV evangelists, and I don't think we want people who are tainted by Falwell in charge of the country.

It's sad all the way around, but one positive aspect about it is that people are starting to talk. That's important.

Ron Paul was right to accept a contribution from a group of American citizens. Bob Barr is wrong to reject it.

After all, it's the stupid politicians who should be representing ALL the citizens and it's outrageous that they have the arrogance to refuse representing certain citizens because some of their views disagree with today's PC dogmas.

AIPAC is made up of american citizens, as is every other lobbyist group. Money buying loyalty is one of the reasons we are in this mess.

I bet you would be happier in the dem or rep party. They take all the money they can get, and you get the added bonus of voting for the lesser of 2 evils.

Either stand on principle or be a part of the problem. If you lose, then the people get what they deserve.

The AIPAC is a group of American citizens who wish to represent the interests of a foreign country and it just happens that their contributions are not rejected by any politician.

The Stormfronters are not seeking to represent a foreign power.

You are really mixed up you know. Vote for Obama but love the StormFronters? Whites don't need a on-line forum to unite against racists, Don Black works for the Jews, just as Obama does. Race problems in this nation are by design more than they are natural. Yes, each race will naturally want to be segregated, and eventually have their own nation, but race relations in this country would be significantly better if it weren't for the Jews stirring the pot every chance they get.

"just happens"? LOL! It's an accident! A fluke! I guess that makes it all OK. And to equate that with stormfront, just because they dont represent a foreign power? How does that make stromfront more acceptable than AIPAC?

I get it. It's the lesser of 2 evils again. If the ends ($ in Barrs' pocket) justify the means (Taking donations from zionist stormfront maggots) then all is well.

Funny how LIBs and PUBs are expected to jump through the enemy's PC hoops. Just who wrote this book of absolutes, anyway?

The left's candidates are never asked to return donations from Angela Davis or Sista Soulja or anti white extremists. I'd be willing to bet that scrutiny of leftist candidates' supporters would turn up 60's rads with blood on their hands from bombings and bank robberies or even the murders of cops and judges.

Ron Paul said something like, "They're supporting me, I'm not supporting them!" An important distinction, I'd say. So, why should he return donations?

So, THE LOBBY wants to define the acceptable parameters for all parties and then make sure that only the two controlled sock puppet parties are invited to televised debates. Others are excluded because they don't have enough media exposure to qualify as serious candidates. But, the only publicity they get in the MSM is when they receive donations from groups or individuals who are "outside the parameters."

Because Ron Paul cannot be cowered by this shabby tactic and because he speaks to the hearts of patriots, they truly fear him.

Bob Barr is a political opportunist/chameleon, which is to say that his principles are indistinguishable from his pragmatism. And, his past preference for (or, lip service to) traditional conservative "values" doesn't make him an acceptable alternative to Ron Paul by any reasoning in my book. Although there was a time when Barr would have warranted a five alarm response, standing in Ron Paul's shadow now he appears beady-eyed and untrustworthy.

The fact that he's now acceptable to "MR. OIL" "CORPORATE LORDS INC.", and "MRS. ISRAEL" tells me that he's compromised. I have to assume that for whatever reason his personal code of ethics is written in pencil and subject to editing by "unknown power brokers."

(Can we all agree that "they" are behind the scenes, even if we don't agree on just who "they" are?)

yeah, thanks for pointing that out...always, always a double standard.

And we all know who's emitting these shrill shrieks of simulated outrage, don't we?

But, alas, the people miss the most obvious contradictions, such as when Rumsfeld claimed it was a violation of the Geneva Accords to show American captives on TV, having stated before (and after, repeatedly) that their soldiers were not entitled to any protection under the same articles!

And, needless to say because the govt didn't point out that inconsistency the stenos at FOX and other MSM outlets also failed to point it out. They only copy then read what they're told. Investigative journalism is reserved for critics of the war, or Israel, or the yellowcake letter.

Ron Paul was correct. It's bad form to reject the support of ANY citizen. I bet the Stormfront support came to Bob Barr not because of Barr's apparent segregationism (not) but for other reasons. Possibly because he promises to defend the constitution, or certain parts of the Bill of Rights that the Stormfront members support as well. As American citizens they have the right to express their views and they have the right to representation. They have the right to run for public office themselves and there is nothing that should prevent them from supporting someone outside their own organization.

The Barr rejection of a 'hate group' contribution validates or reinforces the guilt by association theory which, strangely, seems to be accepted when support comes from 'racist' or 'extremist' groups - see Ron Paul, Barak Obama - but it does not apply when the support comes from groups associated with Israel or extremist 'good causes' such as global warmism or the anti-deodorant movement.

As a note of the observation that only 'rightwing extremism' is found unacceptable, we see how 'leftist' support or associations are used whenever it is necessary to take down a non-establishment political actor. See the constant attacks on Obama based on 'facts' such as the identity of his neighbors, the pronouncements of his pastor or his pastor's friends or his receiving support from Sharpton or Jessie Jackson.
