We haven't been told yet these tomatoes are the product of Mexican stoop labor, but just like the fecal berries of past, you can bet your bottom peso they are.

Bon appetite, to all the free trading traitors. (1 image)

Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths. Theoretic politicians, who have patronized this species of government, have erroneously supposed that by reducing mankind to a perfect equality in their political rights, they would, at the same time, be perfectly equalized and assimilated in their possessions, their opinions, and their passions.

It's getting harder and harder to find fresh produce grown in the USA. Even high end super markets now carry tomatoes and lettuce grown in Mexico, Central America, and fruit from Argentina.

What has Argentina done for the Bushes or for the congresscritters to get this special free trade treatment? Did they send soldiers to Iraq or Afghanistan or something? What's in Argentina - oil? - what?

Brand new farmer's market opening tomorrow in a town 20 miles from my home. I'm particularly eager to buy local honey and eggs.

you might want to check to see if there's a vendor selling raw milk, cream, and cheese too.

The port-a-potties they provide the Mexicans picking in the tomato fields of Tennessee do not have anyway for them to wash their hands; even if they were inclined to do so...more people need to understand how Mexicans fertilize their crops...even right here in the good 'ol USA.

You're very lucky...the Mennonite products are some of the best available...they run a few stores in east Tennessee that I always go out my way to visit...

I'm told they had a store where they sold their products some years back, but that it closed. Perhaps the energy crisis, etc., will facilitate a comeback.

Here the farmer's markets have made a big come back. 20 years ago there was one in an out of the way spot and now you can find one somewhere every day of the week, and there are couple of permanent produce stores that buy only from local farmers. Locally grown on family farms is the only way to go. It may cost a few bucks more but how much does a case of Salmonella cost?

See? Mexicans aren't the only thing from Mexico that are full of shit.

Years ago I went over to South Joysee to service some water treatment equipment and I ended up on a farm working in a migrant shack.

I was ashamed to see how poorly maintained the place was.

The American owners of that farm apparently held the workers in very low esteem, and the workers were apparently in no position to object to the conditions.

The veggies from NJ are very popular and tasty. But, most are harvested by you-know-whats, and that means that there will always be a chance of a biological warfare sneak attack.

We grow most of our on maters and other veggies during the season but in winter we've bought some.

Maybe we'll start freezing and canning more and stop rolling the dice.

I hear you and I've seen just that both in NJ and here on the mushroom farms in PA. It isn't quite human slavery, but given the wages paid and living conditions offered, it comes close. Illegal immigration is a low wage gift to business, from the American government. My Mexican Polish joke aside, we need to look to DeeCee for the cause of the problem.

It's not very hard. Every year I think I need to can more next time. And the price of store bought...too too high.

It's more work than Wifey wants to do now. She doesn't mind flash freezing maters in Ziploc Freezer bags though.

I think she's concerned that with canning she may fail and something will start growing and then we're a Stephen King short story....

(humor)

In response to the problem, the FDA has issued a tomato warning to consumers and produce handlers in all 50 states in which the warning includes that tomato handlers should wash their hands after defecating and even urinating before handling tomatoes and other veggies and fruit, reports CBS News correspondent Nancy Pisa Shitt. As of July 16th, 2008, the FDA in a joint "generous" conjunction with the Walgreen Company of Deerfield, Illinois will be distributing at no charge "THE BIG ROLL' bathroom tissue (1000 sheets, extra absorbent & very soft) to guest worker mestizo field produce laborers in the southwest U.S. and even Mexico, courtesy of the U.S taxpayers.

Great idea, and some members have some great recipes that even a "bachelor who doesn't cook" could prepare, and, I love to see those posted.

"Pour one cup of milk into medium skillet and bring to a boil. Add one cup of hastily chopped tomatoes and simmer for ten minutes while channel surfing for something to watch while eating.

Serve over toast with cold beer."

Mmm, mmm, good!

We used to hang out at this little pond called Cole's Pitt when I was younger. That's all it was, too, a little pond only a miles drive from our little national homes subdivision. I recall many a night pretending to fish, drinking beer, and wondering how people could live in the little shacks across the pond. Seems like corn was the only crop grown around there anyway, like I said...weird.
